Asobo October Dev Q&A

No dedicated weather / clouds SU that I could catch.

Since SU7 they are evasive of any question regarding Live Weather, the standard answer being "we'll have to talk to Meteoblue", so I was curious how they would circumvent the issue this time, as one question (0:35:10) was: "With night lighting being adressed by the team in SU4 beta, are there any improvements we can expect in terms of the atmosphere and clouds next?"

Seb then asks to play a video showcasing the improvements they made for the night lighting.

I guess it's their way to make clear that weather, clouds and atmosphere remain a sideshow in their flight simulator.

You are being disingenious. The second Jayne asked that question they had connection issues and Seb had dropping audio. So they got distracted by the technical issues.

And whoever aks questions for these Q&A should learn that you do not pick different topics in one question. You either ask about night lighting or atmosphere and clouds, not both of them in one question. Because if you do, you risk part of the question being ignored.

hmm Seb says they've done optimization work for the ground stutters, clearly not enough mate best do some more as they're clearly still an issue in SU4 Beta. Also his response to the texture resolution regression at the start wasn't exactly uplifting, further proof of zero QC but at least he says they're looking into fixing it so fingers crossed. (skipped the rest but will listen with intrigue into the section about general optimisation later)

I got mine via trade in GNS430W. Their warranty was only 6 months. After year or so IFD went lemon on me with all kinds of different problems. I sent it back to Avidyne for repairs, but paid out of pocket because it was out of warranty. Upon arrival repaired unit started acting up again. Finally, Avidyne replaced it with the brand new honoring their repair warranty. Since then it's been working fine! I pair it with two Garmin G5 - great combo!

The video was prepared though, so there has been some preparation going into answering that particular question. Therefore, I believe that your accusation that I am disingineous stems from an unrealistic assessment.

Seb did mention weather and clouds when talking about upcoming Sim Updates wishlist items in 2026

It was a shame about the T-28 video.  I thought it looked a bit of a train crash and really didn't show the aircraft at its best.  The stuttery video didn't help though.  I will probably buy it none the less as it is a classic for me.

Sounds about right. Always liked the R9... very intuitive.

In the Dev Stream before this, Seb said they might have to completely rewrite their weather engine to get things like proper CBs etc and theyre always willing to improve the weather. This time he mentioned weather being in the backlog.

I think the takeaway from this is that we need to upvote the weather fixes as much as we can. Show the devs that this is a really important issue to tackle and one of the key areas of improvement for the sim.

I think they've got the message and their definitely aware of what's happening in other sims. A complete rewrite is not going to be an easy task so it has to wait for bug fixes and optimization to be wrapped up. I'm fully confident that they will give us some amazing weather. What we need to press them on is weather radar because I don't think it came up at all this time.

...and therein lies the rub: there are plenty of people (myself included) that feel the weather is "good enough" and Asobo should tackle other areas of the sim before focusing on weather. Personally, I'll put fixing ATC, AI traffic and career mode at the top of my list. Once those are sorted, I'll gladly add my vote for improved weather 🙂
