What will I lose in MS2024 if I uninstall MS2020?

Featured Replies

Aren't some of my planes (like the A2A Commanche) tied to an MS2020 library?  I don't fly 2020 anymore and want to clean up some SDD space.  Could there be any regrets?

Not an issue but you will want the 2024 versions of everything when available.

I stream everything and gained 400 gb space with 2024.

The Comanche has both MSFS versions in the download.
Regrets are subjective, but you will not be able to install any MSFS 2020 addons with some installers.
You can either keep your MSFS 2020 Community folder and copy them across, use the excellent Addons Linker,
or there is a workaround as well.

Disk space is not really very expensive these days and more of that would be a viable alternative.

At the moment I feel that on my PC,  some areas of scenery are better in FS2020 than FS2024. So I have both, each on its own SSD.

you will lose the ability to still continue to fly if a future update breaks 2024. 2020 is a great fallback.

I just uninstalled all the world updates from 2020 to save some space. I keep 2020 mostly for some of my apps (contrails, orbx, etc) so I can link those 2020 sceneries from addonlinker into my 2024 sim. Other than a few planes, I don't really use it any longer.

I've wondered about this because I see references to 2020 in 'My Library' and wonder what happens when you uninstall 2020.  Haven't used 2020 for many months now and would be happy to uninstall it but this question stops me!

  • Toolbar Pushback from Ambitious Pilots / Flightsim.to doesn't work in MSFS2024 because of broken background map where you only see artefacts of the ground. I'm really missing a simple pushback tool in MSFS2024 (anyone down to make a successor for MSFS2024?)
  • Also, I miss a good non-airbus, non-widebody payware airliner with a navigation display and FMC which is not done by WASM-crasher Inibuilds but that will hopefully change just this year with the upcoming JustFlight F70/F100.
  • Some MSFS airports worked in MSFS2020 but having major issues in 2024: BIAR has got a huge wall around the airport, EDVK has (even worse) a huge cliff right in the middle of the runway.

ChasePlane isn't ready for 2024 yet. In these days, I cannot fly without it.

Oh and yeah, when you try to use the default airliners that come with the sim, you can't edit the aircraft.cfg in order to get rid of the annoying pushback truck in front of you because unlike in MSFS2020 and other sims, you can't locate the aircraft.cfg (at least I wasn't able to do so in half an hour of searching through every possible folder). But it's best to wait for good payware aicraft anyway, because (again, at least I do) I get a WASM freeze on every second inibuilds flight.

That means the aircraft is a 'made for 2020' aircraft rather than a 'made for 2024' aircraft not that it has any connection to an existing 2020 install.

You lose the easy to use routing in the world map that auto loads into the autopilot on the A320. A year now and it still doesn't work the same.

What if you remove scenery you bought and installed in 2020, and yet delete all of 2020 stored locally?

Haven't lost anything by uninstalling 2020.
When I needed to install the 2020 version of the Citation X, I simply found it in "My Library" in 2024 and did it from there.

Lots of my sceneries from 2020 are loaded in, and occasionally I get a notification that a 2024 specific update is available.
