Imho VRAM cant be replaced by anything when using 4K or VR and as such, a 3090 might be better in this aspect than a 5080, yes. BUT, it is still not all about VRAM. The 5080 is faster and has all new gimmicks included, like multiframegen and DLSS4. I would certainly prefer those over 8 additional GB of VRAM considering MSFS2024. In my case, I went for the "old" variant (4090) because it already offers at least framegen and DLSS4 can be forced. This means it actually was worth the change because it offers the "best" from both worlds. December 11, 2025Dec 11 Now with SU4 release, I'm tempted to upgrade to 2024 however I have a 3080Ti with only 12GB of VRAM. With a 4K screen running 60 HZ should I upgrade performance-wise? Today I use 1/2 refresh rate and use fixed 30 FPS via RTSS. Thanks Shom MSFS2024 running on Win 11, 4K screen, Z790 AORUS ELITE AX-W, i9-14900K, MSI 3080Ti, Corsair 2x32GB 6000 MHz, 1+2TB M.2 NVMEs

If you’ve got a native 4K monitor downscaling to 1440 is not going to look good. It’s all very well people saying run at a lower resolution but you really do need a monitor that runs it natively. Might be better to stay with 4K and lower some settings. Alternatively, Steam Lossless Scaling app for a few dollars will help enormously. Ray (Cheshire, England). December 12, 2025Dec 12 When a new Microcenter opened up near me last July, with full stocked shelves, I immediately did a (essentially a bucket list item) now or never move and parted together a complete system (see my sig below), literally from their stock on shelves. My only regret is I could have gotten my 5090 for $200 less if I had waited about 6 weeks, but you know about "the bird in the hand". Overall, looking back I'm completely satisfied, especially considering what's available right now. BTW, it was cool to fill a physical shopping cart with all that stuff and buy it at a checkout counter. I've nicknamed that build "New Kitchen" for the obvious ($$$$) reason. I gather the memory manufacturers aren't increasing capacity as you might expect, unless, like me and many others you see the AI boom as another bubble and they don't want to be caught with overcapacity.

Microcenter is a dangerous place LOL. We have one (thankfully) quite a drive from my house but it's dangerously still within reach haha. I tend to get my stuff off amazon or newegg but microcenter is such a cool store. I love going there and just looking at stuff. It's difficult to come out empty handed. Their prebuilds aren't actually too bad and I think you can still pick out parts and have them build it with/for you for a fee. And yes I'm jealous of your new rig! I must ask though - why in the world do you still have an optical drive? I've not had one in my PC since 2013 or so. I use it to make bluray disk movies painstakingly edited down and authored from the HD video clips I shoot with an equally old school HD camcorder when traveling about. I'll PM you a link to a sample of my footage, once you see you'll understand why I'm into this. BTW, I think it's the is the 3rd build that my BD-R drive has found a home. Surprised it's lasted that long (but I got a spare "new" one on hand too). December 12, 2025Dec 12 Best thing any serious simmer can do to help themselves is learn to build their own pcs, it's not that hard.

Not that hard, but not necessarily any cheaper either. I always used to build my own but the last two or three I've bought to spec from a UK seller/assembler. Actually cheaper that way, plus no worries about slipping and screwing up and you get a full warranty as well. I used to build because I could never buy a pre-assembled PC with all the bits I wanted, but that's really no longer the case (or the CPU, or the PS etc <grin>) Ryzen 9 7900X, Corsair H150 AIO cooler, 64 Gb DDR5, Asus X670E Hero m/b, 3090ti, 13Tb NVMe, 8Tb SSD, 16Tb HD, 55" Philips 4k HDR monitor, EVGA 1600w ps, all in Corsair 7000D airflow case.
