Who else fully moved over to MSFS2024 this week?

Featured Replies

On Christmas Day I flew DXB to BNE in the FBW A380 in real time without issue (13+ hours).

Just now I completed BNE to DOH in the PMDG 77W without issue (14+ hours).

Next will likely be DOH to MAN in the ini A35K (a small hop at 6-ish hours).

So long and farewell MSFS 2020, I'll never forget you.

This week I've been testing MSFS 2024 on my 6 years old system with Xbox Game Pass and I'm quite happy with the performance. It's running as well as MSFS 2020 or even better in some scenarios. I've tried it with Fenix A320 on Aerosoft EDDF with no traffic and with almost the same settings I use on MSFS 2020 (locked @30fps) and it's smooth with no stutters.

I decided to go back and reinstall 2020. It's true that 2024 is more visually appealing and has many improvements, but unfortunately some add-ons I use and the simulator itself are not yet ready to work together.

I have noticed that the approach lighting and 3D support structures at two of my UK2000 airports are not being displayed in MSFS 2024. I asked the question to our supreme AI overlords on Google, and the response seemed to suggest that this is a known problem in MSFS 2024  If that is the case, how bad is it? I do not recall seeing any threads or comments about it.

Nice and congratulations…!

You say farewell to MSFS2020 nostalgically as I said to FSX in 2020…🙂

I recently replicated the longest 777 flight of my RW 777 travels…non-stop Chicago to New Delhi, overflying Europe completely…

Mimicking a hold-pattern over Delhi airport, and then a diversion to an alternate airport, due to adverse weather, totaled 18.5 to 19 hours.

The PMDG 777 withstood the challenge remarkably well, such a marathoner in the SIM for us…I did mostly 2X sim rate for the cruise portion.

Enjoy the ultra-haul a/c you have listed…!

Any comments about this? Is there a problem with approach lighting/3D models in MSFS 2024? I have noticed it at several airports now.

I'm reinstalling 2024 (yep...) so soon I can test UK2000 Jersey @Christopher Low

I’m making the transition to it now, just this week. I didn’t think my PC could run it but it does. Only difficulty is learning to set up the controls. And less than half my ORBX scenery is available. But the sim is noticeably smoother and more fluid. I really like 2024.

Jack, good progress so far with your MSFS2024…pretty fast too…🙂

I recall you were concerned about your less-than-optimal PC at one point, but glad it appears to be meeting the challenge, and you’re finding the new SIM smoother and more fluid. You may find (occasional) localized scenery degradations or/and server/bandwidth issues that have been reported by some users, but that’s normal.

Regarding Controls, you’ve received good advice already, but I would suggest adding a (wireless) Xbox Controller (even though you’re on PC, unlike I am), if your setup would allow it. It would greatly simplify, I think, at least, the Camera and Panning view aspects of the new SIM.

For last 5 years, with just a Thrustmaster, an Xbox Controller, and a Keyboard, I’ve been flying all my aircraft in the Xbox (including complex ones such as the PMDG 737/777 and iniBuilds 340/350), without any issues.

I know a few PC users here are using the Xbox Controller; look for the threads. It comes with many pre-set (and intuitive) configurations for MSFS. You can get one in Walmart or Target for ~$45 (where you can get the genuine ones; the on-line is flooded with imitation ones).

Just a thought…you decide what’s best for yourself and your system that you’re used to.

Have fun…!

And you have the appropriate library installed?

We are all connected..... To each other, biologically...... To the Earth, chemically...... To the rest of the Universe atomically.

I have the UK2000 Common Library installed, but it is not just the UK2000 airports where I have noted missing approach lighting. I noticed it at Pyreegue EGPF Glasgow yesterday. Are you implying that you do not have this problem at all?

Also, if you are doing the Red Bull races an XBOX controller is a must.

Funny, but I actually think I'm a better pilot with it than with my old stick and rudder stuff.  😊

Hi, I have one and use it for the drone. It’s not the cameras, it’s those three *%#*# settings in the controls screen. I just cannot figure them out. This is the absolute most frustrating thing ever since I’ve been in this hobby going back to the 80’s.

Just got my MSFS 2024 installed.  Have a separate drive for the app and for the Community folder.  Having a fun time over the holidays just taking my time absorbing all the features that most of you are already familiar with.  For me, not being a study level simmer, I just explore each feature and I am starting to watch videos on the overall program.  The app says I can run everything on High so I am just leaving all where it is set to begin exploring the world.

Happy New Years!   🎉

Intel i9-12900KF, Asus Prime Z690-A MB, 64GB DDR5 6000 RAM, (3) SK hynix M.2 SSD (2TB ea.), 16TB Seagate HDD, Gigabyte GeForce 5080 RTX, Corsair iCUE H70i AIO Liquid Cooler, UHD/Blu-ray Player/Burner (still have lots of CDs, DVDs!)  Windows 10, (hold off for now on Win11),  EVGA 1300W PSU
Netgear 1Gbps modem & router, (3) 27" 1440 wrap-around displays
Full array of Bravo, Saitek and GoFlight hardware for the cockpit. Varjo and HP VR headsets for mixed reality.

Jack:

You’re not the only one who has used those interpretative symbols…🙂…in the context of their frustrations with the MSFS2024 controls.

However, start by choosing just what you really need to fly your aircraft, and use as much of the (actual) cockpit and flight-deck instruments of the (respective) a/c, as possible, to start with.

If I can fly the 777 and 350 on the Xbox with minimal customization of the (factory) configuration setup, you can surely do so on the PC too…(it may take some time to have it all, finally the way you want it…though…🙂…)…

Cheers…!
