Annoying adverts

I don't know the current situation. It may be that Admin isn't supposed to be telling us this, so I'll remind people of the last time. Someone is getting paid for these ads, and it may not be Avsim.

Maybe it's them:

Yes, I have messaged the site owner and also just emailed the site IT guy to see if any changes have been made to the system.

Ublock Origin Lite. Free, no nagware, just works Haven't had a pop up ages on Here, .to or the tube. intuitive and UI incredibly simple to use give it a go.

Yes, I have been seeing persistent ads and pop-ups on both my phone and PC, since last week or so...

On the phone, it's seemingly always for the HULU Streaming service, the beckoning of which I've resisted for years on my TV. I recently subscribed to Netflix, for a couple of months, for the entertainment of some out-of-town visitors. It looks like, HULU now thinks I might also be a potential consumer of this service.

It's very hard to close out the tiny pop-up on my phone, playing an action sequence of the HULU movie; with that tiny cross on the pop-up itself. It has figured out that I'm not a sharpshooter in this matter, and usually it blows up to entire screen. It takes me several attempts to get it out of the way, very annoying...

Hope, it all goes back to what it was just a week or two ago. It was never like this.

I've been at AVSIM since 2002 and have never seen ads.

I remember in the old days (I joined in 2011) there used to be one advertisement near the top of the page, and it was always flight sim related.

That’s probably why I didn’t remember them; they were relevant to our interests and not annoying (unlike 1-877-you-know-what 😱).

That full page advert that appeared when clicking on a link seemed to have disappeared yesterday. Thankfully (for all those lovely advertisers in the world) it seems to have returned today

B-377 Stratocruiser with Captain of the Ship.

When did that become 1-877-HOT-DOGS which is a link to a site featuring a wiener dog. Named Frank. Maybe they think we won't notice the difference before we click on the link.

Back then it was more like 1-877-HOT-LINK which took you to a site about The Legend of Zelda. At least it was game related.

I've finally given in and installed Adblock Plus and I'm pleased to say it works very well. Thanks for the suggestion!

Yes the new adds are super annoying!  But Geeeeez, just install an add blocker and all done.  I installed uBlock Origin in both Firefox and Chrome.  One or two clicks and done.  Works like a charm, no more adds, done!

Absolutely nothing has changed and still no further feedback from the admins either which is very disappointing, I can only conclude that they don't care.

More ads than content showing all the time and these constant full page ads are driving me nuts.
I guess I'll be visiting avsim when I have a specific question I need answers to, no longer as a frequent casual browse to find out what's going on in the world of flightsim. The official MS forums, hell even FB groups are less obnoxious than the billboard this site has turned into. 💩

The point is that we did not have this problem barely four days ago. What has changed? Why should I need to install an ad blocker when I have never needed one before? The absolute silence regarding this is almost as annoying as the adverts themselves. Those word not allowed full page adverts have even started appearing now and again when I am doing nothing more than reading a post! It is ridiculous.

Agreed Christopher.  But before the recent super-sized pop-ups, I had advertisements on every forum page every day.  The were just smaller and either in the middle of the page or on the right side.  The add blocker joyfully got rid of everything.🤸‍♂️

I just upvoted your post and yes really when I clicked upvote, I got a full screen ad first!! Talk about adding insult to injury. 😖

OK, hold on to your butts, sit down and buckle up!  The site IT guy will try to tone it down mostly for phones.
Nothing more will be done.

Just going to run a Chromebook and not upgrade to a Windows computer. Too many problems with the new Sims! 😱
Trying to keep peace and harmony and the will of Landru on the site seems to be a full time job!
