The point is that we did not have this problem barely four days ago. What has changed? Why should I need to install an ad blocker when I have never needed one before? The absolute silence regarding th

Yes, I have messaged the site owner and also just emailed the site IT guy to see if any changes have been made to the system.

I am accessing the site this morning from my work PC (which also uses Firefox), and I am still getting the advert bar at the bottom of the screen (which I am not able to remove at all), and the small popup window to the lower right.

I'm accessing Avsim on a PC and on my mobile phone, using Edge on PC and Chrome on mobile, and still not seeing ANY ads like those mentioned by other people...Go figure...

Well, I am accessing Avsim on my tablet as I do every morning with my coffee and breakfast and I'm getting the pop ups ad nauseum. Twice I've gotten big ads that completely cover the screen and require closure to continue. Please sort this out Avsim, it is destroying any possible hope of enjoying the web site if this continues.

The last time this happened Admin told us to use an ad blocker.

I don't know the current situation. It may be that Admin isn't supposed to be telling us this, so I'll remind people of the last time. Someone is getting paid for these ads, and it may not be Avsim.

So use your own discretion.

It's likely that this isn't something Avsim wants to be happening. If someone wants to put up ads, don't overwhelm us. This appears to be more like spam from a hacker than anything legitimate.

Currently with AdblockPlus I'm not seeing any ads on Chrome desktop. ABP shows it blocked 12 ads on this site.

This Adverts phenomenon is something that always pops up now and then, and will eventually fade away. It’s actually a subtype of another condition, and is known in the literature as “Pseudo UFOitis”.

It is weird that only some of us get them.  You'd know if you got them, it is basically like one of those clickbait sites with obnoxious ads everywhere.  Autoplay youtube ads right in between posts (all AI slop by the way).  There was full page popups which were terrible, but those seem gone today?  Something definitely started sometime this weekend.

I have a browser with an ad and script blocker, but I don't use it on my "regular" browser.  I don't mind reasonable ads, sites cost money to keep going.  This is a bit excessive though, and I can see it driving people away.  There were always ads off to the right and other places, but they never bothered me.  Having some ai video screaming at me out of nowhere isn't something I can ignore.

For those looking for more control, I use Firefox with the Noscript addon, basically it blocks any script running.  The downside is you usually need to allow something for any sites to work, which is why I don't use it as my "daily driver".

Correct me if I’m wrong, but doesn’t it seem that our colleagues in the British Isles are reporting this phenomenon at a higher rate than other places?  Could this be a heretofore unreported symptom of Post-Brexit Malaise? 🤪

Nope, still same issue here … Chrome on iOS 26.3.  Testing with Safari on iOS 26.3 and same issue.  Tried Edge on Win11, same issue.

For me now it's a bit better.. only seeing the bottom "bar" ads that slide up to cover a portion of the lower screen, and the video ads (audio muted) on bottom right corner right above this bar (on PC with Chrome and Firefox). The full-page ads that you need to close now seem to be gone.

Installed MalwareBytes with popup blocking enabled and other features … waited a few seconds and still get a popup … then wait a few more seconds and the popup goes away.

This is the first time MalwareBytes has not been able to successfully block a popup advert … checked other websites and it’s blocking them (MalwareBytes provide a count of blocked ads and details).

I get that need for revenue to keep sites active and alive, but this seems a little bit “in your face” … so much so that it makes going to AVSIM an unattractive option.

I’m using an iPad and the screen was covered in ads yesterday, now I don’t have a single ad showing , not even the ones I used to get before the sudden add explosion a couple of days ago.

I'm using the free version AdBlock Plus (for the first time ever because of Avsim), and it's working well.

This is truly bizarre. I've been at AVSIM since 2002 and have never seen ads.  Maybe tomorrow's lunar eclipse with break the spell.  If not, we should maybe go to this source for an answer:
