March 28Mar 28 Got my Tobii Eye 5 yesterday and got it set up. I have had several TrackIRs over the years, but Tobii Eye is better in a few key areas. First, you don’t need to wear anything. I was a bit skeptical about how well this really worked, but the second thing I really like about Tobii is it is even smoother than the latest TrackIR. Super smooth in fact. Third, the freedom of movement is much better. I constantly found myself reaching the limit. Very good. 7950X3D | RTX 4090 | 96GB DDR5 | 4K G-Sync | Win11 Pro

March 28Mar 28 Thought about switching to Tobii but then I read when you pause tracking, it resets to the default view instead of freezing your current position. Is that still the case? Because that kills it for me.
March 28Mar 28 Are you guys hang eye tracking? My screen is too big for eye tracking according to their website so I’d be using head tracking only. My Declan clip that I use with track IR is dying (or at least the battery is), so I have to have it continuously plugged in for it to work. Given this defeats the purpose of a wireless IR emitter, I’m debating between replacing it or maybe going to Tobii route, mainly so I don’t have to wear headphones if I want head tracking. I also use it in a lot of driving sims, I’d love to hear any experiences from those who made the switch and use head tracking only. March 28Mar 28 I have used TrackIR in the past. Because of a head injury I had in 1989, my eyes point in different directions Would Tobi work for me?
March 28Mar 28 Changed 6 months ago to Tobii after using TrackIR 4 for 20 years. Was fed up not being able to sim at weekends if it was a sunny day and did not wish to close heavy curtains to block out the light (which severely affected the tracking). No more need for a sweaty baseball cap which looks stupid should you need to answer the door and forget you are wearing it lol. SU5 Beta has a lot more control options for the Tobii which is good. Like stated in a comment above the only negative is when you natively pause tracking the view recentres. One way round that is to use OpenTrack rather than the in sim controller setup. It allow pausing without the view changing but generally I found the settings less pleasing to SU5 Beta. I dont use the eye tracking just head tracking. March 28Mar 28 I have a Tobii eye trackir (v5) which I don't use. It works perfectly, in fact I only had it set up for a couple of weeks before I realised that it really wasn't appropriate for my type of sim use. Given that I don't actually use any instruments when 'flying' it just acted as a distraction for me. So, I'm quite happy to donate this to anyone who wants it. Not sure I can find the original box (I know I've got it somewhere but can't lay my hands on it right now). Not much point in it sitting around unused if someone can make use of it. If anyone is interested, PM me and we can take it from there. Not looking for money, but if you want it you just have to paypal or xfr the shipping cost. Like I say, PM me and let me know ehre you are (I'm in the UK) Ryzen 9 7900X, Corsair H150 AIO cooler, 64 Gb DDR5, Asus X670E Hero m/b, 3090ti, 13Tb NVMe, 8Tb SSD, 16Tb HD, 55" Philips 4k HDR monitor, EVGA 1600w ps, all in Corsair 7000D airflow case. Sims in use - 2020, 2024, XP-12 and -11, FSX/SE, P3Dv4.5 and v5.4. DCS and AFS2 installed but rarely used

I've never understood why I don't seem to have this issue when others do. TrackIR 5 in my case, but I doubt that's much different from a 4. The room my sim is in has south-facing windows here in sunny Florida. I'm a sunshine fanatic so there's no way I'd put up with having to close things and sit in a dark cave just to sim either. I never pull the blinds, even on the sunniest days and I never have issues. I mean seriously never. And that's using the cheap TrackClip reflector (worn on a very comfortable visor), not the fancy schmancy powered TrackClip Pro, so no wires either. Yes, I have things set up so the screen never gets hit with direct sunlight, but that's something I'd do no matter what. What am I doing wrong! 😆 I'll grant you the dork factor if I forget to remove the visor, but I haven't answered the door with it on yet. I have gotten laughed at by my wife, but that happens all the time anyway! Scott

Before, I used TrackIR 5 for many many years. I do NOT use the eye tracking, as I find it too jittery for my liking and only use head tracking. As for having your viewpoint not reset when pausing the view, as mentioned above, using Opentrack (a third-party software solution for tracking that adds additional tuning options) does have that option to keep your view stuck where you pause the Tobii. Additionally, Chaseplane has that feature in the settings as well, which is what I use. Works perfect in my experience.
