Sim Update 6 (v1.8.14.0) now available

Featured Replies

I do not know if this is a consequence of the SU6 update or a PMDG update, but a small issue that I noticed some time ago in the PMDG 737 seems to have been resolved. In short, whenever I turned to look towards the left in the 737 cockpit, the textures on the FIRE WARN and MASTER CAUTION buttons would become a bit blurred after a few seconds. Strangely, this never happened when I looked to the right. Whatever the case, I noticed this morning that the textures remained sharp and clear when I looked to the left, so I am a happy bunny 🙂

  • I've been at this since the dawn of 2020 and now 2024 and never had to fix anything after an update. What's beyond stunning to me is just how much stuff is addressed in these updates compared to any

  • To be honest, most of the fixes are above my horizon. I didn’t know there was problems or I don’t understand what they mean. I might be only one or at least one of the few with limited understanding

I wonder if you could give me the coordinates to this screenshots and the altitude you were at over there. I am almost 100% sure that it doesnt look like on my end, never seen this kind of unsharp ground textures anywhere to be honest...

It was the east side of Corsica, don't know exactly where though.

Ok, will see how this looks like on my end, maybe this evening

Ok found it, it's right next to the town of Ghisonaccia. I can easily reproduce it by going through the TLOD levels, it's like they've messed with the LOD levels again, going to 400 and it's fine which suggests they've nerfed lower levels to gain performance as predicted by so many people during the beta.

What does it look like at TLOD 250 on your PC? That has always been my standard TLOD setting.

Ghisonaccia is in the background. Here is what I get at 1700 ft with SU6 and MSFS AutoFPS (thanks to the author).

Config : AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3DMSI PRO B850-S WIFI6E - RAM G.Skill 2 x 32 Go DDR5 6000 MHz CL30 - MSI GeForce RTX 5080 16G VENTUS 3X OC PLUS - 2 WQHD (2560x1440) screens and only one of which is for MSFS

I'm now of the thinking the VR TLOD is behaving differently to 2D, when I adjust it manually (not using AutoFPS) it always reverts to the previous setting when I go back to the Menu. When using AutoFPS it seems there's nothing happening then it suddenly switches "on", might well be a bug/issue.

Where do I look to find Sim Update 6 (v1.8.14.0) is what I have downloaded ?

The only update I have received was very small.

How Do I know that this update is the real thing ??

You can't use MSFS 2024 unless you're updated as whenever you launch if not current will automatically be nudged to update. Alt-Enter gets you to windowed mode at which point you can see the version number in the upper left of your screen.

I keep forgetting that you use VR in MSFS 2024. It sounds like there could be an issue exclusive to that mode, because the terrain textures look fine to me on my PC.

I've seen a couple of spots on our giant planet earth with low resolution ground textures. The last two times I saw this was a small area around Hamburg maybe 4 months ago, and also northeast of Phoenix recently. 99.999% of the planets is fine, and remember Asobo needs to make the sim work well for their entire user base, not just MarcG or VR users. It's always the usual people who whine constantly about the rare dead tree in an otherwise amazing forest.

Last night I flew the default Inibuilds/Asobo A333 GCXO - LEPA. No contrails at FL400.

Not sure if this was an issue before the update, as it had been so long since I've flown that aircraft.

There are plenty of annoying issues across the planet if you are looking hard enough......

  • Numerous "blurred out" areas (super secret military bases that are apparently more secret than Area 51), including the infamous Brest naval dockyard in France (which annoys me because it is so close to my Pilot Experience Sim version of LFRB Brest Bretagne).

  • Messed up terrain textures west of BGGH Nuuk in Greenland, together with some poorly defined OSM data around various islands and coastal areas.

  • Numerous "black lakes" close to ESNQ Kiruna in northern Sweden.

  • Numerous "cloud shadows" baked into the terrain scenery in northern Finland and elsewhere.

  • Those daft desert textures covering half of southern England, including a messed up area of textures a short distance west of EGSU Duxford.

  • Brown high resolution terrain textures surrounding my aircraft replacing green slightly lower resolution terrain textures as I move.

  • Other "blurred out" areas of terrain on mountains that look generally white, but with trees on top of them (possibly blurry images of clouds).

  • Obvious joints between mismatched areas of terrain that shout "fake" to me every time that I see them.

These all add up to be annoying little "side shows" for someone like me. I have an advanced radar system for stuff like this, and it always makes me feel uncomfortable. Yes, I appreciate that the vast majority of the terrain is superb, and MS/Asobo are to be congratulated for that. I also appreciate that resolving these issues in their entirety would be a significant task. However, it would be nice to see something done about some of them. I know that some payware addons have included "fixes" for those blurred out military base areas in France and elsewhere, so it can be done.

Good for you, and you well should. Once again, 99.999% is fabulous. I'm blessed because I live in the forest and not bothered by a few bum trees. The other day I was flying around Munchen and just blown away by the quality of imagery AND with absolutely sterling performance. Kudos to MS/A for their honest work. I hope it's profitable for them!

Cheers
