  1. A good rule of thumb when dealing with FMS altitude constraints is that the vertical mode is limited to the Altitude you have preselected on the FCU (AP panel). in Short: the plane will not fly higher than FCU altitude during climbs and it will not fly lower than FCU altitude during a descent.
  2. @GSalden Try a proper video capture software. Colors and visual representation is messed up when recording a monitor from a phone.
  3. Not super important. In the B737 if that field is omitted winds are assumed to be zero, and for a cruise climb it would use actual winds. Impact is the adjusted climb speed (slower for tailwind, faster in headwind. This entry does not replace forecasted winds on LEGS page.
  4. VFR flying with no use of Ipad/ tablets: For longer flights I sometimes combine the larger 1:250 000 scale (more detailed map, standard for our sectionals) with smaller 1:500 000 scale (ICAO sectional, less detail but covers larger area). Also I have a big binder with every airport in my country and their relevant VFR charts. I use 5 min marks on the route of the 1:250 000 sectionals so I can easily follow up my fuel situation and actual time over WPT in the pilot log. No I use sectionals and also bring out every airport chart on to my chart clip relevant for the route, which has most data you need. On my pilog log I have a "Radio COM/NAV" section where all expected ATC frequencies and Navaids are listed Yes, I always keep a VOR active on NAV 1 and in my DME. But you'd be surprised how accurate you can fly in remote terrain by just maintaining the planned heading for x amount of minutes. I don't have a fixed NM criteria for alternates. But I am aware of where suitable airports (or any area that I could land on) are located on my charts. As I wrote earlier, I have a clip of those suitable airports along my route with visual approach chart + airport information. Sectionals are very poor in describing airports cabapilities (is it even open? Can I re-fuel there? Is the surface maintained in winter times? Can rescue vehicles - or any vehicles- reach this airport easily, it may sound dumb but around here many smaller fields are located in remote areas where the only road to the field is secured by a locked gate or steel bar.) Obviously check/do before flight: Phone number to any Tower along your route (very handy if you have COM-failure) Aircraft docs Weather NOTAM (any navaids inop? Are the all controlled areas open? Restriction areas?) PPR/PN (this is more and more becoming compulsory, TWR wants to know when you depart and expect to arrive, even if you have filed a valid flightplan) ATS flightplan We all have our own procedures for flightplanning. There are some great information in this thread already
  5. not so much of an advice, but you can take comfort in that it is much harder in the sim to nail those turns to final approach leg than IRL 🙂. Also be aware of current winds + ground speed and apply corrective measures. If you have base leg with tailwind, start turn earlier, opposite if you have headwinds obviously. If you fly a fancy glass cockpit (like a 737) you can visualise your turn by using the ND and the turn trend-vector and align it with the extended runway centreline.
  6. Yes you can, When you file an IFR-plan PBN codes (field 18 of the flightplan) B3 (DME-DME) or B4 (VOR/DME) are targeted to these kind of equipments. But I'd wager most are using GNSS supplemented by low orbit EGNOS/WAAS satelites I use an old GNS430 IRL, and that old junk is certified to "RNP Approach LNAV"
  7. Thats not entirely true for Prepar3d V5. It is updated in some areas and vastly improved! 🙂 But not complete compared to Navigraph or Navdatapro. Mandatory B-RNAV was introduced in April 23 of 1998 😉 B-RNAV has since been replaced with the term RNAV 5, which is required when operating on ATS routes in all(?) countries in EASA at least.
  8. I think OP is rated on the Citation Excel....
  9. Does anyone know if Aserosoft intends to improve the PFD/ND authenitcity. Some text size and position errors seem to be present since the first version in 2017. The exteriors are just crazy though, fantastic quality
  10. they have YT videos from alpha testing. Not that many developers do this, so feel free to watch them and see yourself how the plane performs in sim
  11. earlier today the jets at FL340 reached a velocity of 205 knots revolving around the deep low (952 hpa) north of UK. We noticed it here in central Sweden aswell. Temp rose from -2C to 4C in a matter of a few hours
  12. Sorry for being unclear Flying on rails is not gonna happen where I fly, unless you stay clear of mechanical turbulence and local thermals and that means > 2000 AGL for me. Most simmers complaing about flying on rails syndrome during the approach phase, and rightfully so.
  13. Yes when you leave the turbulence boundary layers (around 3000ft at my airfield), but in no way true during approach with flaps out where I live. I have made hundreds of approaches this year and I can count only a handful when I was flying in butter smooth air when landing.
  14. speaking from private perspective: Money aside, obtaining the PPL/LAPL license is not hard. It's like going to driving school for cars. Any regular Joe would be able to do it if they tried. From my experience, it is not the money that the issue, but the time. I remember leaving at 07am and returning at 4pm and only logged 2 hours. You spend lots of time away from home.
  15. Hi, I own the Europe-version and I can not fly without it. 😎 While it takes time to get used to (get ready for more dynamic approaches), I feel that it does wonders in masking that "fly on rails" syndrome which is a general weakness with P3D. Here is a YT clip I did some weeks ago, where you can see the subtle effect. Keep an eye on the AoA indicator of the primary flight display and notice how it continously fluctuates. The air mass around the plane feels alive, and small corrections are needed to maintain desired flight path.
  16. I work at ESSA / Arlanda. and just for the winterseason alone we have roughly 45 vehicles to deal with snow removal on airside, 17 of them are PSB's (Plow/Sweeeper/Blower, the ones you see on the runway driving in formation) No clue how many tugs, catering and other vehicles we have on airside. 😎
  17. LM is a company that pushes out updates that breaks things. So we are in safe hands.
  18. Are you talking about actual airfoil movement or the time it takes (i.e. trim button held down).
  19. guys, this will never be "study level", I dont think it is the intention. After a dozen or so flights with this package I would put it in qualitywings trajectory. A fun plane, that works perfectly fine even without the FMS. I use a very old copy of Jeppesen airway manual pre-RNAV/database from early 2000's, so I can fly into most airports by using on board radios if navaids are operational.
  20. update is great for me. It removed some hills around my local airfield that is no present IRL. Happy simmer here.
  21. Holy word not allowed. That video was great, I fly for real, and also tried VR in P3D (meh moment, platform, is too ugly to be convincing), but seriously speculating in buying a new VR-set just for MSFS.
  22. v1.06 is out! Changelog EFB added – provides control over animations, announcements, fuel and passenger load (refer to FAQ here) Fuel quantity gauges changed to KGs to match other indicators N1 and TGT bugs can now be set with electrical power off and positions will be saved/restored with panel state Glideslope/localiser capture issues after using RNAV – fixed FDE changes (cruise attitude, stability in IAS/MACH modes) HSI CDI now working correctly when flying from a VOR Minor livery fixes Various improvements to custom sound system Tweaks to cabin announcements New wing views added 300QT GSX profile fixed Engine anti-ice intake low pressure remaining illuminated after engine start at low N1 values – fixed Tweaks to air-con system (e.g. flight deck and cabin fans now affect temperature change rate) Power icon and menu state options can now only be selected when on the ground to avoid inadvertent selection during flight Added further GSX compatibility (e.g. doors will now auto open/close, cabin crew arm/disarm door announcements triggered by GSX boarding/deboarding status) Animation panel now indicates when doors are open, stairs are extended or GPU is enabled Speeds card clickspot will now also set N1 and TGT bugs FMC fixes (including DTO)
  23. thanks for the heads up. Despite the bad news, I really wished they'd fix that
  24. Try do a proper crosswind takeoff in P3D and marvel as your downwind main gear will lift off due to the unrealistic aileron authority on the ground. This is prominent even in PMDG. MSFS is not perfect in ground to air transition obviously, but it trounces P3D in that regard.
  25. Have they fixed the ATS bug on final approach with FMS SPD? earlier it always defaulted to Vapp 145 regardless of weight..
