  1. I believe FSX is looking for aircraft.cfg files when You are changing a plane from the menu. Try to rename that file and see if it works. For default C172 the path would be [...]\FSX\SimObjects\Airplanes\C172\aircraft.cfg
  2. Yes, indeed it is - Cub on a taxiway :LMAO: As for a GA - take a look at MilViz C310. VC is not top notch, but the simulation feels very different and many RW pilots claims it is as real as one gets. The steam gauges covers many things - I especially like the EGT/CHT gauges for leaning the motors. It also has outstanding documentation like all MilViz machines.
  3. It will speed up 'change aircraft' dialog box, nothing else. You can disable 'show all variations' to achieve pretty much the same result.
  4. Ryan, I guess most of forum visitors agree with me, that it is better to be few weeks/months behind the schedule and launch polished, almost finished product than waiting for endless updates. PMDG planes are top quality, JS41 is one of my oldest planes in hangar (I simply delete older models and keeping only order numbers in db) and after approx. 40 months after release I still use this noisy Garrets pretty often. I would like to have the same situation with 747-8i
  5. If I would be in pilot's position, it would eventually end in 'snakes in the grass'. I did not tried such scenario in FSX - I'll visit nearby zoo and ask for a 'try before buy' option maybe... Big ups for Mr Braden
  6. I recall similar symptoms back in the day... There were two reasons: one was 'read only' attribute for the XML file. Please try if it is possible to edit the file. The second one - every time FSX crash, it does not change anything in fsx.cfg, standard.xml and other in-sim editable files. Do You have UAC disabled?
  7. I believe 737NG from PMDG already have custom light build into model. Do not own this and cannot confirm, but please check, if You have some entries in aircraft.cfg under [LIGHTS] section
  8. Start the Garrets, and You will not hear it anymore :)
  9. No problemo. I'm glad I could help a little bit. That is not that difficult, isn't it? Once You have created one VC camera, it is much easier to create another, and another...
  10. The XML (standard.XML) should be at %Appdata%/Microsoft/FSX/Controls folder. Sometimes, when You are deleting axis and keys via FSX's GUI, some of them are not saved (in my case this is Button10 for every controller). The solution is to close FSX, let it save new controls.xml and edit the file once again via GUI. Upon second exit from simulator, You should be OK.
  11. For a GA I tend to use flat at the middle, steep at the end of motion (curve is set to 3 or 4). For heavies I use Yaw Damper and pedals as a tiller, since I was unable to find any tiller for my sim - it means straight line. The same situation goes for rotorcrafts, opposite (steep in the center) goes for the aerobatic planes.I encourage You to found a curvature, which does suit Your ruder tension, space uder the desk and Your preference.
  12. I use Norton Ghost for this task. My FSX + OS drives takes approx 200 GB, 120-130 GB when backed up with compression. You can create the copy while in Windows, restoring is done offline (CD startup). It saved me few days, if not a week or more (complicated, add-on extensive setup). Please arm Yourself with such a tool and keep at least two backups of FSX + OS drives (in case the last one has something screwed).Backing up both discs (OS on SATA2 SSD, FSX on VelocityRaptor) takes 35-40 minutes (depend if PC is idle or I tweak something), restoring takes about 50-60 minutes.
  13. In other ways, You cannot fly 737NG, SuperBug, Cub, Cessna310 or Jetranger (add here any addon plane You are addicted to...) for few thousand dollars anywhere You want, anytime You can, and have the fuel in cost of electricity.I spend most of my free funds for FSX and barely regret.
  14. I allow myself to qoute Mike from sales team of PFC:All of our products are of highest quality and the discounts are already built into the productsI asked about a discount, since I would like to replace not only the yoke, but rudder also.
  15. I cannot say it loud here how much have I spent for the hobby, since my wife can jump in here :)Seriously, my rig is worth (hdw + sft) more then my wife's car...Fortunately, there are a lot of free quality literature to go on between flights.
  16. I would recommend Flight1 Citation Mustang - easy handling, FADEC (basically a computer which operates the engines), nice VC with glass cockpit. When flying (firstly VFR at VLD) study the PMDG 737NG manuals. When You read all the stuff, try some IFR flights (to become familiar with departures, arrival and approaches). If You think You have mastered Mustang, grab a bigger plane. My way of learning was: F1 Mustang, QW 757 (great plane, somewhat light on systems), PMDG J41 and 777/737 is next in the queue.
  17. I can share mine if You wish, but is is nothing special. Optimized for 3x16x9 display. Just provide me Your email, I'll send You the cameras, effects etc.
  18. Sure, I will be the second guy as soon as I switch from FSX.
  19. Thanks a lot for this! Finally, I can load up to MTOW my JS41 and still climb :) My engines are also impressed!
  20. Some folks promised us to give a short review. Please dig out last GTX680 related posts or wait a day or two.
  21. Saying JS41 is 'lite' or does not have FMC is an 'overshoot'. FMC has all the features besides AFIS and hold capability (plus some minor GPS and other nav stats pages, not used in FSX). You can study the actual real life unit manual and found 80% of data useful in simulation. It is extremly noisy and, as a standard for PMDG, does not have Wx radar, but many folks integrates Wx500 from other devs. You already have the cfg file prepared for this.I warn You, it is an addictive plane!
  22. My way of dealing with the cockpit lights is to set Night Threshold at 256 in fsx.cfg (gives a pitch black, I can't even see JS41 taxi lights) and put all lights on (except Emergency and Panel). Do not know the lights in 737NG, but I would leave off as many as practicable - You still have to deal with switches from time to time, so some of the office lamps still has to be on.
  23. It never was 'far' from the begining...I stopped waiting for it - this is way to long. I hope it will not be abandoned, since I am sure it WILL be profitable, no matter the price. Just another 'must have' for FSX
  24. I'd go for the biggest affordable displays, even at the cost of image quality.I've had good 3x21.6'' (5040x1050) and found it difficult to see Duke's, JS41 Crew Alert Annunciation Panels and other small details. Now I do have cheap 3x27" (5760x1080) - I have no need to move my head closer to CAP (TrackIR does this pretty good) and found one nice feature - no problems with greasing (minus 50-80fpm) in GA/gliders (which I take for a ride from time to time) - the display is much bigger giving You more immersion and 'feel' of the plane
