I think his concern is about how often he will have to RE PURCHASE the full package. When the updates cease to be free. Which on the face of it will be approx. every three+ years or so. Very reasonable, in my opinion.

Having just finished a full PC rebuild and reinstalled FSX plus a bit of stuff. I am thinking on the very same lines. Less is more.

Graphic card
dogtrack replied to rubrog's topic in Video Hardware: Monitors | Multi-Monitors | Video Cards | Drivers etc
Compare the "core" and "memory" clock speeds, also the "shader" clock...higher the better. Something in the region of 1085MHz core, 7200MHz memory and 2170MHz shader would be great but expensive. Go take a look. Oh and forget about the "free" games. -
The 5m Mesh and Night scenery added a lot of weight to the Horizon product, hence the size. Any users of Treescapes or RevX, will find it also works with MSE2. One or the other only, not both. Just utilise the Texture folder from the Horizon install. All the usual "object" items available from the Net can also be used. Coastal waters on the West coast have many areas of bleed through, from the default. Not got around to the South or East coasts yet. Inland is good, no Mesh supplied so users will need to acquire one, if they do not already have same. Given its cost, with the given discount, it's a no brainer really for anyone who does not have the Horizon product. I am using both...one with Treescapes and the other with RevX. Plus all the extras on both. Makes for a bit of variety.

You mean England & Wales I presume......the UK includes Scotland and Northern Ireland also. Which are not part of the package.

Night Lighting in Los_Angeles_San_Diego UltraRes

Guess you will need to turn it off if you use Night Environment California, I'm thinking. -
Night Environment review and shoots
dogtrack replied to Chris Bell's topic in The AVSIM Screen Shots Forum
Well, Chris, you have finally convinced me. As I stated over at Mutley's, I am not a night flyer as such. UTX has fulfilled my night flying needs very well until now. The above screenies just tipped me over the edge. So thanks for all your work. Now to install Benelux, Germany and British Isles. Alas Dubai is out of my flying area. But maybe the USA at some point in time.....? -
"My ( C ) Drive is currently showing 525 GB free of 910 GB."......CONTRAIL PRO is only 1.48MB. Sounds like a system error/problem on your machine. Perhaps try downloading from another computer. Or perhaps try a right click/save target as...and see what happens. EDIT:- Just had a look at Simmarket and there is a key needed....see here:- http://secure.simmarket.com/flightsim-tools-contrails-pro.phtml Perhaps your source is not all it seems ?

Yes have tried it in the past. Guess I must be one of the few who doesn't like it, but hey, that's just me. Prefer to sort myself out. Then I only have myself to blame if it all goes pear shaped.

For what it is worth....I have all 10 volumes of the Horizon Scenery. I also use the "all in one" folder structure. Which makes the Scenery Library listings much shorter and tidy. I always try where possible to deselect areas that I am not flying in...ie. if flying Scotland, then uncheck England & Ireland in the Library. If all areas are active in the Library then you will experience very long load times. Seeing as Horizon/Playsims or whatever they were called seem to have gone to the wall, you could try having a look for assistance here. http://forum.flightstore.co.uk/?forum=314849 It is the only source of knowledge now for those products and it is limited. But certainly worth a try.

hdd defrag question
dogtrack replied to fluffyflops's topic in System Hardware: PC | MOBO | RAM | CPU | HDD | SSD | PSU etc
Have been using Diskeeper for many years. Tried O & O about 3 years ago and dropped it like a hot potato after encountering the same problem you seem to have come across...5 days & nights. Only problem with Diskeeper is that it does not Optimise files...defrags quickly though. However after they changed the UI I decided to stop using it. In my opinion it was a backward step. I now use Auslogics Pro Defragger which is quick and Optimises files. There is a free version here :- http://www.auslogics.com/en/software/disk-defrag/ The paid for version has a few extra bells & whistles which you may or may not find useful. The free version works very well and you can choose to include Optimise or not when you run it (takes a little longer...1st run on a 500GB install on a 1 TB disc took 6 hours). A defrag run on its own takes about 3 mins once the initial 1st run has been completed. Ultimate Defrag by Disk Trix has many followers http://www.disktrix.com/ who swear by it. Tried the 30 day trial myself but found it just too much. Not unlike O & O and the 5 days & nights....just do not need all of that. Think you will be pleasantly surprised with Auslogic Free, I know I was. That's why I bought the Pro version. -
I have just logged in without any problem.

Have you tried resizing the P-G window, to a size you would like, before starting the Sim. Then it should remember its opening size whenever you restart it in the Sim. And of course you can "lose" the top ribbon once you have finished using it.

Well, thanks for the HU. Was considering buying...now, think I shall give it a miss. In fact, never mind think...it's missed.

Vector Light Tool with UTX lowering my FPS

"my fsx was running very well"....beggers the question why you tried it. Still, hope you get it sorted. -
Anyone with experience of Earth Simulations?
dogtrack replied to WotanUK's topic in MS FSX | FSX-SE Forum
Have to agree with the current majority. It all looks great, a lot of work went into its creation. BUT...there installers are a nightmare. Had the original Treescapes but when the time came to rebuild the Sim I just couldn't be bothered jumping through all the hoops again. So it has not been reinstalled. Nor have I purchased anymore of there products. -
Finding Avsim much more responsive here in UK. Been a struggle to load pages for quite some time ...months. Now, PDQ.

You may need to login first....see here second post down :- http://www.simforums.com/forums/solved-utx-fsx-traffic-speed_topic44429.html OR if you prefer to have it done for you... http://www.orbxsystems.com/forum/topic/20979-tool-orbx-slower-vehicle-traffic-worldwide-version-300/

Quick Plan from FSWidgets works great with Dropbox link. Create plans when away and they are there waiting for you when you get home.

Activations: how many and how long to reset the counter?
dogtrack replied to a topic in The Prepar3d Forum
Sound like you have the same problem I had with V1. That's why I haven't bothered with v2. Needs to be far more stable and reliable before I splash out again. Quite happy to wait until v3 or 4 if needs be. Never fancied Beta testing for corporate conglomerates. Anyway, hope you are back up & running soon Jeroen. -
Problem resolved...by chance rather than design. Saw advert for DVI cables and they mentioned that they were able to carry 2560x1980 resolution images. Not something that I had thought of as I was getting an image. My cable was about ten years old though. So for the sake of spending £6/$5 I replaced it with a new 2m cable. Job Done, all is well and the wallet is happy too.
