  1. I have navigraph, and while the efb feature seems cool, I vastly prefer looking at my navigraph charts on my actual iPad or the in game navigraph app, than on the virtual efb. Wonder if anyone has coded a widget to display local PDFs on a separate in game app. Would have uses beyond charts as well… manuals, checklists, etc…
  2. Well, you asked me in the other thread about that, before it got locked, and I didn’t really get a chance to reply, so I assume I’m at least one of the people you are referring to, and yes, I have made no bones about not liking XPlane, because I don’t. And at some level, your point about “not using it in any meaningful way” is probably apt, but I have bought every version since xp8, and I even gave xp11 a good couple of days use a couple years back. So yeah if you look at my steam stats, it shows less than 10 hours use, but that is more than enough time to decide that something is not for me. I have, however, never called it pathetic, nor have I gone into detail about its many shortcomings, and I certainly have never gone over to the xplane forum and trolled them about anything. They come here, different story. I think more than a little bit of the issue is Austin himself. XP is his baby, and it’s tied to him. And he’s made the identity of his sim be the anti-ms. So for decades now, the narrative is always that anything that XP does well is amped up and touted as the greatest thing ever, and anything that XP doesn’t do well is stupid and something that “real flight simmers” (read: people that agree with Austin) don’t need, until he actually finds a way to make it work. And his fans mimic the behavior and the talking points. And sure, there are f@nboi of every sim that act that way, but the devs of those sims don’t. You ever hear Jorg or Lockheed Martin, or the old Aces team talking smack about XP? Nope. Even Randazzo, as much as he loves blowing his own trumpet, doesn’t talk smack about other aircraft developers. Austin can’t help it seemingly. And in my completely honest opinion, it’s to the detriment of his own product. 100 percent love his stance against the patent trolls, tho.
  3. When I think about Robert Randazzo sitting at his computer reading avsim, underneath a large oil painting of Robert Randazzo sitting at his computer reading avsim, I don’t actually know whether these forum comments make him happy or sad.
  4. The mods took that post seriously and shut it down? rofl.
  5. Sometimes a post is so mind bogglingly Ill advised, that it renders one at a loss for words….
  6. iirc approach phase just lowers your speed target for flaps extension and Vapp. also iirc It will automatically change to that phase once you pass a certain decel point in the approach, so you would only hit it manually if you want to slow down sooner.
  7. I never could bear to use XP long enough to find out, but I had WAY more CTD crashes in FSX/P3D days than MSFS. not even close. and that's even before I would consider OOM's and DX12 VRAM depletion as part of that number. Now, certainly there appear to be folks having those issues in msfs, and I'm not trying to minimize that, but I can only speak from my experience, and other than one or 2 CTD's from third party sceneries, my msfs has been very rock solid stable
  8. I cannot imagine that the "academic version" of p3d will be available in their next iteration. I think that grey area in the licensing was only do-able due to MS indifference, and I don't think they will indifferent any longer... 200 bucks or nothing. I used p3d, but only because at the time, it was either that or Xplane, and you know... (gags while contemplating using Xplane) 😀 There's three choices: A mass market sim from a tiny division of a gargantuan corporation, a trust fund baby's lifetime vanity project, and a training platform for a military contractor. Each of these approaches has definite advantages and disadvantages, but the one where we end up with a sim made more with end users in mind is the mass market approach, unless you happen to perfectly align with the sensibilities of either Austin Meyer, or Lockheed Martin. And I sure don't.
  9. I thought it was already so word not allowed wonderful, why would it need to be overhauled?
  10. Well, you are probably referring to the cabin textures, and I don’t know why THEY didn’t, other than what they said about them being placeholders, and not meant to be final. I wouldn’t have worked on them, because modeling the cabin is stupid. IMO. Not a passenger simulator..
  11. because laser scanning has not one single thing to do with textures? it's a 3d modeling tool.
  12. At standard altitude baro settings your indicated altitude will be different than your actual altitude, unless by some miracle the actual barometric pressure happens to be 29.92/1013. As for whether it would be that far off, not sure, but I imagine some science types should be able to confirm.
  13. I don’t really know why you responded to my post, I explained to the other poster why the LNAV is wrong in simple terms, I simply mentioned that it doesn’t bother me. Does that bother you?
  14. Iirc correctly it really can’t do curved segments, it fakes it with pseudo waypoints, you will get to your destination, and it doesn’t bother me at all, but it isn’t really correct.
  15. continuance in maintenance is great for a2a and GA aircraft, where you are simulating aircraft ownership, but it would be highly unrealistic in an airliner, because airline pilots don't fly the same plane a lot. they get off, another crew preps the next flight, and takes off a bit later, and the one you fly after a siesta in a hotel is a completely different bird. that's what makes the random realistic thing more apt. what might be entertaining is a slightly different default panel state, where on early morning flights it's C&D, later it's on a turnaround state, but there is a small chance that certain things might be slightly off, which would make you pay attention to your preflight more. cause, you know, maybe maintenance was messing with some things in the cockpit, or the last pilot missed something, etc... real stuff.
  16. Does it? It doesn’t move the needle to the position. And iirc the real bus needs to be set manually for takeoff trim. Once you have it set and going, the bus trims it for you. Think the 330 is automatic.
  17. That’s fine, but also entering it into the Mcdu doesn’t actually set the trim. You have to do that manually with the wheel.
  18. Think of the throttle on the airbus as more of a mode selection switch than a throttle. choices being idle, CLB, flex and toga. when taking off put the throttle into flex, to perform whatever derate you have programmed in the mcdu, or toga to go off on full thrust. after takeoff, at deceleration height, put your throttle in CLB detent and leave it there until you are 20 feet above the runway at your destination (usually). you don't use a toga button in the bus, what you select with the throttle is what you do. computer takes care of the rest. Also make sure to set your trim to the correct pitch before takeoff (the UP0.2 or similar figure you get from the takeoff calculator in the EFB)
  19. Your Router runs the show in assigning different ips to devices. if your ipad is off, and another device connects in the meantime, the ip address can change. it's not generally a big deal. or a problem. but if you run a server on a device, that one needs to be more stable. you can usually go into the router settings and force an ip to a particular device if you want.
  20. He didn't do a total bonehead move. he made a mistake that probably everyone has made a time or two, especially since there's no prompt on screen in msfs to tell you that you are paused. and probably he does feel embarrassed, but he still owned up to it rather than disappear like others have. But hey, you can lash out in personal attacks if you want. over nothing. no matter to me.
  21. He's right. He doesn't have to use AIG. he can use VATSIM. with text. You aren't their bouncer.
  22. iPad might be quicker, but it will only tell you the iPad's ip address, not the one on the computer, which is the one you need for this application.
  23. It did no such thing. You clicked for reasons entirely found within you. In his post he made no bad statements about any developer, asked for help, when he realized his mistake he posted what he did, thanked everyone for help, and has generally been good about it. There are zero things to be "embarrassed" about here. If anything some of you should be embarrassed to the extent you think you need to actively defend other grown adult human beings or businesses when they aren't even being attacked.
  24. Wind? One is showing HDG the other is showing track.
  25. You can download the non-English voices from MS as well, and they will speak English with an accent! Just flew a few flights in Japan with co-pilot Sayaka.
