  1. Unfortunately that seems an extremely remote possibility. PMDG have sadly publically washed their hands of the MD11 and won't be offering anything further. I, along with many others think this is a huge shame, however they constantly state that the MD11 didn't do as well as they hoped. I think that the MD has a huge amount of unfulfilled potential - in fact I believe that PMDG could more than likely give it a boost in sales by offering a couple of minor systems upgrades such as WXR integration, Failure system that doesn't need to be activated each flight, a usable SDK (for FS2Crew voice integration) and the ACARS Uplink similar to the 777. I am surprised that they've never emailed their existing customer base to gauge the demand for such a Service Pack - even if chargeable. I for one would certainly shell out $25 for an upgrade like this. Just my opinion. Tom Beckett
  2. Thanks for the responses - the reason I wanted to record it myself is to make it more 'natural' sounding - I understand the limitations of the speech engine etc and how it strings together words to create phrases, hence why I would have preferred the option to create my own. Tom
  3. Afternoon, I have been looking at getting this software, reviews are very positive and I am impressed by the level of service offered by the devs. However, there is one major question I need answering before parting with my cash. Does MCE support or allow the use of custom recorded responses to the checklists? For example, can I record the phrase "Flaps 28 Set" and include it as a custom checklist response? Thanks, Tom
  4. If the 'G' command works it obviously isn't a problem with the MD11 - it is a problem with the output from your Saitek switch panel. You need to use FSUIPC or similar to find out what is being sent when you raise the gear lever on your switch panel, and assign that to the Landing Gear Lever Up/Down command - otherwise just bind it to the 'G' keystroke. Are you sure you haven't bound it to the CTR GEAR NORM/UP switch instead?
  5. BHX has been using NDB/DME approaches on and off over the past 6 months, due to the runway extension works. Emirates send 2 x 77W's a day there, AI send 6 x 787's plus all the other traffic. They definitely still have a place, I wish sometimes on VATSIM that controllers would allocate other instrument approaches other than ILS, it would keep everyone on their toes! 6. I've been well and truly had. Well played RSR, well played sir. Not many manage to totally stitch me up like a kipper but it's been done. Suppose I'll have to buy the 777 now...... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  7. Some of the opinions on descent planning etc seem very idealistic, in RW ops it is not unusual to be kept higher than the 'optimum' descent profile, and utilising all of the options open to you to put the aircraft in the slot and stabilised by your SOP gate is not 'the wrong way' to do things. On VATSIM if there is not much traffic around and no ATC I will often perform high speed approaches, often keeping it at 270kts to 15nm then allow the speed to bleed off, gear and flaps (flaps 15 is your friend!) as appropriate and be spooled up, flaps 30 and on profile at 1000'. It makes good practice and keeps you trying to think in front of the aircraft. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  8. OK Robert, thanks for the explanation. I do fully understand your position, being involved in retail and dispatch myself. Bill, PM Sent  Cheers, Tom Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  9. I would very much like to purchase the QRH for the MD-11. Unfortunately, the only shipping option for the EU is Fedex, and frankly $148 shipping for the manual plus the $45 cost makes it unrealistic. Why do PMDG no longer offer USPS shipping to the EU? I looked on the USPS website and shipping would cost $30. I can justify $75 all in. $195 I cannot. If they provided permission, I could get it spiral bound in the UK for around £20. Jeez, I'll even pay the $45 to them just for the rights to reproduce it as a one off! Any help from Messrs Maziarz or Randazzo please?? Cheers, and Merry Christmas! Tom Beckett
  10. Hmmm. To tell you the truth, I can't remember. It's embedded in my brain for some reason, but only God knows where from. Maybe I'm thinking of NDB/DME approaches, but it would make sense to keep your SOPS the same for all NPA's so maybe I'm not totally deluded Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  11. It's a procedure turn, so you'd be best to fly the outbound and inbound parts of the turn using HDG SEL mode, referencing the DME reading to know when to start. Some operators require you to fly non-precision approaches in heading select mode anyway, and not use VOR LOC to track approach courses. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  12. +1 Simply one of the best and most high fidelity add ons for FSX, especially considering the price. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  13. You will also lose the speed and stall protection factors if you disable LSAS - but it is inoperative when below 150ft radio height, or above this if a particular force is applied to the control column - 2lbs rings a bell but I'm not 100%. Tom Beckett Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  14. You need to make sure BOTH the ZFWCG and TOCG are entered on the PERF INIT or the V-speeds won't confirm. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk - now Free
  15. I don't really want to throw a spanner in, but part of one of the statements was along the lines of "..the 250Kts speed limit is an essential part of the see and avoid action...." Surely, on an instrument departure procedure the responsibility for separation lies with the controller and so see and avoid is not the primary method of applying separation? I'm not going to profess to know the score as I'm neither a professional aviator nor controller; but from the cockpit DVD's I've watched I've never seen a request for a speed greater than 250, but I have seen it offered by ATC - whether this is a SOP based on aircraft type then I'm not qualified to say. 16. Because it seems to me that a lot of people who partake in this hobby see hours built as a 'score', and whoever has the highest score is automatically the best or more knowledgeable when we all know that is total bullcrap. I agree that you learn by interacting with the aircraft, but that should be done by using the maximum number of tools at your disposal; PMDG's excellent failure engine is a perfect example here. I can bet that anybody who does the whole takeoff-sleep-land cycle doesn't activate that as it could mean losing the flight halfway through. At least if you are monitoring and a system fails you put the QRH and your experience into play and suddenly it becomes a much better representation of the real thing! To be honest, I wouldn't start a long haul flight if I was going out of the house or be anymore than a minute or two from the PC, and check it every few minutes, and I'm glad that BAV operates the system as they do. But like you say, each to their own I suppose. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  17. There is a purpose to it; to stop this frankly ridiculous business of taking off, going to bed and landing in the morning. That in a virtual airline setting is a recipe for people to treat it as an hour building exercise when that is the exact opposite of what it should be - it should be about trying to become a better virtual pilot, and gain experience. While sleeping you can't monitor the systems, learn about the aircraft or do anything remotely useful. Why not just use 8x acceleration, or take a day off work if you really want to fly from DFW to HND?? I don't speak for BAV, only as a member, but I'm glad their policy keeps 'simmers' (I use the term loosely) who think this is a good idea from joining. I have a young family and work 55 hours a week; so my longest flights are around 3 hours. That's no problem to me. I have done an overnight from LHR-HKG; and I slept for only 45mins. It was a tough challenge, but it is a 1000% more valid as a sim experience than takeoff-sleep-land. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  18. I also agree; like these people who want 'fully detailed virtual cabins' - get a grip for Christ's sake. If you want to experience the view from the cabin, it's pretty easy - Spend £30 on a Ryanair or $50 on a Southwest flight. The whole point in detailed addons is to experience as close as you can the experience from the seats you can't sit it! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  19. I think I need to check the alpha channel in PS; I kind of hoped PMDG had just set it on the paint kit to a normal value but obviously not. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  20. I'm trying to make a repaint of the PMDG MD11; in the .dds files everything looks perfect. When I created the folder and loaded the aircraft in FSX the outside has a bizarre metallic sheen over the top of the paint! I can just about make out my paint underneath, but what is causing this? I saved them in Photoshop as DXT5 files, it is only the fuselage and tail that are shimmering - the engines and wings are normal. Any ideas?? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  21. Shorter body, no winglets and a larger horizontal stabiliser are the three main instantly identifiable differences between a DC10 and an MD11. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  22. Now come on, if you want to be taken seriously with your talk of Boeings efforts to solve this issue (which personally I think hasn't been solved, but anyway) then coming out with such a nonsense statement just destroys any credibility you might have tried to build. It smacks of playground name calling, especially when you should well know that a high speed full rudder doublet applied above manoeuvring speed would likely tear the vertical stab of any airliner. The A300 is a perfectly safe and well built airliner, but can't cater for downright stupid control inputs - like most aircraft. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  23. That is mainly because of the displaced thresholds, yet the EK 77W still normally comfortably makes the 90 degree B taxiway exit, which is about 5,900ft from touchdown. Very impressive performance! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  24. Not really intriguing; it's just common sense!! Remember the song, 'It's always 5 o'clock somewhere'. If they release on any given day at 1500z, then it's AM on the west of the Atlantic and PM on the east!! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
