Simcoders REP for F33 Bonanza Out
Longranger replied to Comanche's topic in The X-Plane General Discussions Forum
It does wonders, especially with the sound. But at the moment there is a slight glitch. You have to put the cowl flaps on keys or buttons. Somehow you can't open or close them with your mouse. -
Best Chopper for XP 10
Longranger replied to CFIJose's topic in The X-Plane General Discussions Forum
Well, the best is the Bell 407. -
FS Global Real Weather For XP10
Longranger replied to CFIJose's topic in The X-Plane General Discussions Forum
In fact they don't necessarily need improvements in X-Plane itself. Improvements in the communication with SkyMaxx Pro V3 might be the key. -
FS Global Real Weather For XP10
Longranger replied to CFIJose's topic in The X-Plane General Discussions Forum
It depends. I sometimnes observed up to 5 different cloud layers that it hold, but due to the use of the standard interface, there can only be 3 cloud layers visible at the moment. I never had rain above the highest cloud layer (contrary to the default system) and I often had interpolated weather between several distant airports. -
w2xp_Europe_1_West - annoyances
Longranger replied to torfih's topic in The X-Plane General Discussions Forum
And as tonywob told all old aerosoft airports don´t have any exclusion zones.. While exclusion zones were mandatory since X-Plane 7, most scenery designers ignored them till the global airports appeared with 10.30 . So the aerosoft airports were normal, when they appeared but since Aersoft seldom updates their products, if the disgners don´t push them nothing happened. So Heinz Flichtbeil, the main Aerosoft support member for X-Plane made a scenery that contains the exclusion zones for all aerosoft airports ( http://forum.aerosoft.com/index.php?/topic/90668-new-version-exclusion-zones-for-aerosoft-airports-v-15-okt172015/#comment-647727 ) -
T206 G1000 expansion
Longranger replied to ryanbatc's topic in The X-Plane General Discussions Forum
Well, the "G1000" can create Flightplans, has a moving map and checklists, that´s more or less it. It generally works but in some situations you wonder: Ok, how do I move on. In my opinion at least in the CT182T it is still work in progress. It works, but it doesn´t necessarily works well. -
Baby's first helicopter
Longranger replied to Morrigan's topic in The X-Plane General Discussions Forum
Well, for the beginning the BK-117 is a good idea. But while the Bell 412 is a bit easier to fly, due to its size, I still prefer the Bell 407. IMHO the best helicopter we have for X-Plane. -
I'm up and running :) - just a couple of Qs?
Longranger replied to JYW's topic in The X-Plane General Discussions Forum
No. You are mistaken: They only talk about bug fixes, not about new features. New features are more likely on the list for X-Plane 11. -
PMDG DC-6 is In beta tests
Longranger replied to mtaxp's topic in The X-Plane General Discussions Forum
Well it is only a question of the kind of service that you want. It was already asked, what they would do if someone buys at this price: The boss of PMDG would jump into a plane and install the current version on the computer of the customer... -
This is not the crucial point for X-Plane 11: It ismore a question: How many major API changes will you put into X-Plane 10. I think the time for major updates in X-Plane 10 reaches its end., I would expect 10.50 and perhaps 10.60 but nothing beyond. Everything else will have to go into X-Plane 11. There are several issues that have to be handled in major ways, like the ATC and the standard clouds for example. The drop of UHD mountains and so on, like preparations for new graphics engines. Open GL depends on the quality of the graphics drivers and the producers will put less and less effort into their OpenGL engines.

New Reality Expansion Pack v2.1
Longranger replied to Nico87's topic in The X-Plane General Discussions Forum
Any time frame for the first Version of the Bonanza REP? Before December? Before Christmas? Before the summer of 2016? -
Not really. While Australia has now a HD3-Mesh ( http://www.alpilotx.net/downloads/x-plane-10-hd-mesh-scenery-v3/ ) I think there are at least as many New Zealand airports like there are Australian ones. New Zealand had the Luck that they were in fact one of the first enhanced HD Sceneries ( http://www.alpilotx.net/downloads/x-plane-10-new-zealand-pro/ ) which meant a lot of interest and therefore also a lot of interested scenery developers.

In flight FPS performance boosting tip....
Longranger replied to Sesquashtoo's topic in The X-Plane General Discussions Forum
Well, in a way SkyMaxx Pro tries this approach. In a way Laminar was a bit overenthusiastic with their clouds approach. While modern GPUs have a huge number of tricks to really render objects in a very good manner, objects like clouds are still only a kind of wizard truck without any real substance. They are simply to complex to really calculate them in real time. -
FS Global Real Weather for X-Plane 10.40
Longranger replied to WR269's topic in The X-Plane General Discussions Forum
It generates dummy weather stations between airports, if there is a large distance between them, but not if the weather stations are near each other. And it can run on a network PC, but it doesn't really help, since it is not your computer that calculates the weather, it simply downloads it from its servers and gives it to the simulator. -
Skymaxx pro v3 high memory usage
Longranger replied to GamerNurd's topic in The X-Plane General Discussions Forum
It would be a technical minutia if SkyMaxx V3 wouldn't try to present the amount of free VRAM as a kind of reserve indicator. In fact I tried several different settings of SkyMaxx Pro V3 without significant changes of these values And I just found out that the 980 driver behaves the same. So I can only say SkyMaxx Pro V3 shouldn't show these values to normal users! -
Skymaxx pro v3 high memory usage
Longranger replied to GamerNurd's topic in The X-Plane General Discussions Forum
No! SInce the complete cache is only a copy of objects in the RAM and/or on file, it can simply overwrite the oldest, or never used cache blocks with the new objects and textures without any worries.. You only get swapping problems if it has to delete content from the cache and reload it right in the next instant. The advantage of the very fast access speed simply dictates, that you don't want to reload any content from the CPU, HDD/SD or RAM if you can avoid it. So it tries to prefetch as much information as possible. In fact this behaviour is nothing new. At least on my GTX 770 I observed it from the beginning with the help of GPU-Z. If the drivers find any content to fill the cache, it will use it. Ahnd with world2Xplane or GB or Denmark Pro there are always enough possible objects, thanks to the models library. It always runs with a nearly full VRAM but doesn't get into trouble even if it has to load a big airport. It simply overwrites data that wasn't used for some time. So the available size of the free VRAM doesn't tell you anything about the amount of VRAM that the GPU really needs at this time.. -
Skymaxx pro v3 high memory usage
Longranger replied to GamerNurd's topic in The X-Plane General Discussions Forum
Well, this is not so unusual. The OpenGL driver tries to fill the VRAM as good as possible. Perhaps i9t hits all needed graphics. That's a totally usual behaviour for a cache algorithm. An empty cache doesn't make sense and the w12xp models gives more than enough material. But normally ti can determine within a few seconds which segments are really needed and which can be exancheged with needed materials. Hmm, thias gives me an idea... Yep. I guessed it. This cache strategy makes the VRAM and RAM reports of SkyMaxx Pro more or less worthless. On my computer it reports 133 MB VRAM, but this doesn't say anything since SkyMaxx Pro doesn't know if any objects in the cache can simply be replaced, since they are not needed at this moment. -
Skymaxx pro v3 high memory usage
Longranger replied to GamerNurd's topic in The X-Plane General Discussions Forum
Hmm, Interesting. Your settings are in fact lower than mine, but why does SkyMaxx Pro V3 report only less than 300 MB available. Your report clearly indicates swapping. But you shouldn't really have osm europe and w2xp europe active at ther same time. I would always deactivate one of them to simplify the handling. Since they are both based on the same data, it doesn't give you any advantages, but x-plane can't know this, so it prepares both. Simply go into your scenery_packs.ini file and set the osm europe to SCENERY_PACK_DISABLED... -
Skymaxx pro v3 high memory usage

Cameron was talking about VRAM. What is your monitor resolution, or you could reduce world distance a bit. Do you only have 2 GB VRAM in your 770? -
Essential Addons for xplane - payware/freeware
Longranger replied to SVA1181's topic in The X-Plane General Discussions Forum
Well, the X-Plane default weather is much better than the FSX default weather. Only with the last Updates external weather engines can really work. So the only commercial weather engine that supports X-Plane is FS Global Real Weather. The ony spanish payware airports, I know are from http://www.dai-media.com/ and they aren't very good. But as usual you can find decent freeware airports on the org . -
Acceleration was a last minute fix to try to improve the speed. The old FSX code expected the usual MHz race, which ended just when FSX was about to be released. The problem with the old disks: They won't always install correctly with todays operating systems. When I upgradted my old FSX computer to WIndows 8.0 and installed additional hardware, FSX no longer worked correctly. Steam improved the compatibility with todays operating systems.

Best Turbo Prop Airliner
Longranger replied to RJC68's topic in The X-Plane General Discussions Forum
You should never try to compare the FSX or P3D Carenados with its X-Plane counterparts. There is no way to convert an FSX Plane to X-Plane or convert a Plane from X.Plane to FSX. It is more a recreation, since their flight models have different foundations. As an example X-Plane always calculates the drag of propeller blades, FSX does not. Since Carenado doesn't recreate the flight model like the RealAir Turbine Duke or the Majestics Dash 8it can't land as these planes really do. Push Condition and Prop levers full forward, while you havea low throttle and the plane slows down even when it descends. The FSX version lands more like a jet. -
Norway Pro (Work in Progress)
Longranger replied to tonywob's topic in The X-Plane General Discussions Forum
Well, all I can say: Orbx Norway was in trouble against the UHD Mesh, with the addition of Norway Pro, they simply are out of the competition. Well they have bridges and a lot of flying buildings. -
Extended DSF need more or less all of it, but if your computer has resources it will only need a small amout of RAM and even less VRAM. But the CPU and GPU have to decide which sections of the additional DSFs they really need and these resources have to be transfered via the busses.
