  1. 1) Abacus 787....Needs no explanation. 2) Aerosoft Cape Canaveral...I think FSX default may actually be better... 3) Every rendition of the F-22 I have ever paid for. 4) PMDG 747 (I like the MD-11 a lot more, I bought the 747 after the MD-11 so that probably has something to do with it) 5) LDS 767...This one just doesn't get my "juices" flowing, I don't know why. 6) AS2012 (REX Essentials+ w/ OD killed it for me)
  2. After seeing the video of a levelD MD-11 sim being used to perform a touch 'n' go on an aircraft carrier all this nonsense about what can or can't be used for entertainment went out the window for me. Can't wait for P3D v2.0. Here's the video, just for record.
  3. I made the choice of "neither". I fly cargo exclusively though so I'm not really sure what I should be doing. I know that moving jetways are pretty far down my list of wanted fixes for payware airports though.
  4. My only gripe with REXE is the fact that the pressure setting at my destination always seems the same as my departure regardless of the length of flight. While this is probably true for airports less than 100 miles apart under the same weather pattern this shouldn't happen if I took off from say the east coast U.S. when it was dry and sunny and landed in Europe when it's grey and rainy. But having said that, it's not enough of a problem for me to want to run out and into the arms of another developer waving cash in hand. I use REXE for everything and am happy with it, I also know it's going to be fixed so I'm not super worried about it anyway.
  5. I'm glad this was resolved without taking extreme measures against your FSX install.
  6. Ok, yeah if you are using the XMP profile or using stock settings for memory it should be fine. I still don't think your CPU is truly stable though. And until we actually know for sure that it is I wouldn't even bother opening FSX. I think some stability testing is in order to be sure.
  7. If you are getting a BSOD then it's probably not your FSX.cfg that's the problem. What are your memory specs and rated voltage?
  8. Not gonna lie, I had to check a few of those features out before I voted on them.
  9. Lucky... My 2600K needs 1.48v for 4.8Ghz and 1.52v for 5Ghz...mind you this is without HT. If I want to use HT then it's 1.52v for 4.8 and 1.55v for 5Ghz. Needless to say, I got the Intel tuning and protection plan just in case but it has pretty much ran constantly for about 11 months now without problems.
  10. I can't remember when MTX came out but I know I had a version when I still used FS9 and that was quite some years ago. I tried WOAI but after spending 2 days downloading "every" package and still finding empty airports I wasn't really happy with it. I realize people get "passionate" about some things but I see no reason why I should spend days configuring and perfecting AI instead of flying my own plane. MTX populates my airports with reasonable looking AI with minimal input from me and that's how it should be and it makes me happy. UT2 might be good or even great but I'm not going to buy it because I'm happy with MTX and that's good enough for me. I think the screenshot looks fine personally.
  11. Just for record every PMDG product I have ever used can use the default .pln files to load flight plans. Also, it is much easier to do so than loading a flight plan by hand and you know exactly how it is going to work before you get it loaded. I know my plane is turning because it's in the flight plan I created and is doing exactly as it was programed to... Of course I also dislike FSBuild and use Virtual Dispatch but I always seem to be the odd one out anyway. I never seem to "go with the crowd" regarding these things. Just like I don't like the LDS767 but everyone here loves it. Go figure. to the OP; I think the QW757 is a great way to get into the idea of using a FMS but I digress. I also think the PMDG MD-11 is also a pretty good first choice. It's easy to learn but hard to master and can really grow with you as you get more and more proficient.
  12. Are you sure it didn't go into video capture mode? FRAPS shouldn't hurt FPS at all if you are just taking screenshots.
  13. I rarely see GPU usage over 30% either. Now Vram usage can get up in the 1GB range for me though if I set the insane AA settings like some here like to use. As for Photoreal, it works best at 350 knots or less in my experience and that's with it installed to my SSD and my CPU running 5Ghz...It's just the nature of the beast I think. And if you tweak it to run smoother then you're likely hurting the performance elsewhere. I like a "universal" setup though, I don't disable or change anything for any flight so I go for the best performance all around instead of focusing on this thing or that...It helped my sanity and I don't spend any time tweaking anymore. Get a lot more flying done that way.
  14. I love my MegaScenery (except the Miami package which I actually just deleted...) and I was wondering why they weren't releasing anything new. One thing that always impressed me was their night scenery and I hope you can pull that off again. I have tried and it was a disaster... Good luck on this new endeavor.
  15. Personally what I did was buy 16GB of RAM and make 8GB a usable ram drive and put a 6GB pagefile on there. Solved a lot of problems and it keeps my SSD drives from getting thrashed by Windows which can hurt their lifespan.
  16. We tend to forget that video cards take address space. If you have 4GB of ram and 2GB of video ram that means you have effectively halved your system ram capacity if you are using 32bit windows. Virtual memory is also limited to 2GB per application if it's coded as 32bit which FSX is. Once FSX or any other 32bit program reaches this limit it's over. If you run a 64bit OS you can "hack" FSX (or any other 32bit program) to use up to 4GB of virtual memory which is what I have done and it does help tremendously.
  17. OE-LAT has hit the nail on the head with this one. Simply put, crash detection is less realistic to have on than off.
  18. Unfortunately it has to be done tile by tile. They do this so you don't have one huge 30,40,etc GB install file which at that size could be corrupted quite easily and hard to download for some people. What I did was copy the install location using ctrl+c and then pasted it back into each one as I installed with ctrl+v so I didn't have to navigate there each time. It is a lengthy process but I think the results are worth many more times what the effort is.
  19. At this point, I don't think there is a point in waiting for a LDS757. The 767 didn't even take half as long as the 757 (if it's even still in development) is. I think it's either been forgotten about or something went wrong with the program.
  20. Maybe we need an addon to keep track of our addons then? As far as "finding" aircraft though I once found out there is a limit to the number of aircraft that will show in the selection screen. You can have as many as you want installed but only 250 (IIRC) will show up. I have since gotten a lot more picky about what aircraft I use and have trimmed many many GBs off my FSX install by leaving out all the aircraft I never really used including the default.
  21. Well, that's actually a pretty good question. I too sometimes forget I even have certain payware airports/sceneries. Although I always take a look around them in the trike after I get them installed to check them out, make sure everything looks good, everything works, etc. I also have a ton of airports I never fly into anymore mostly because the VA I belong to is cargo based and we don't fly into say, Chicago Midway... When I do a new route or something the first time I always check to see if I have a payware version of the destination installed in FSX somewhere and if I don't I look to see if one is available and if not I come here and grab a freeware version. Maybe a simple text file of the ICAO codes of my payware stuff in alphabetical order or something might be in order...
  22. I have heard a guy say that if they (MD) were to build a MD-12 that it was going to have 3 crew. A pilot, first officer, and a German Shepherd. The pilots job was to feed and take care of the dog and the dogs job was to bite the pilots if they touched the controls. Joking aside, the MD-11 is heavily automated and easy to fly once you get the hang of it. Other than looks I would say that the MD-11 is about as far away from DC-10 as you can get and still call it a derivative though.
  23. A Quadro 6000 is a GTX 470 with better driver support and more Vram. DO NOT replace it with a GTX 560 Ti. Might as well take your money and set fire to it for all the good it would do you. Overall I would say that a brand new GTX 570 which can be had for a good price now is the minimum I would upgrade to if you run FSX. It's what I use and honestly, it does just fine. Never seen it go to 100% utilization but it does cut it close on memory. A 2.5GB 570 would solve that issue and would have enough oomph to power FSX even if you were using 2+GB of Vram. Then again I have used a 9500GT for FSX and had decent results...so it just depends really.
  24. So what do I do if I don't have a FB account then? Wonder if they would refuse you a job because of that. Of course I'm sure some HR manager out there would. Weird world these days.
  25. When I was younger I flew unaccompanied a few times. My aunt in Florida would buy me plane tickets for Christmas so I could visit her and her husband and my cousin in the summer. Got to see and do a lot of cool things and really enjoyed it. Had nothing to do with "divorce" or my dad not being "responsible". She always used Delta so that meant a layover in Atlanta, I loved that place.
