  1. Twitch to me is another community like Avsim. Sure you watch someone fly around, but it's as much that as it is talking with other enthusiasts in the community, in real time, via chat. You can certainly learn things (especially from rw pilots), get differing perspectives on various topics, and see reviews for new products, etc.
  2. I'm curious as to whether it was that straight forward and handled as casually as it seems to have been reflected in the article. I would imagine that there would still need to be quite a bit of time to go through pre-flight briefings, other red tape, etc.
  3. Given the increased frequency of the updates (which I am all for, btw), some people do have to lower their expectations on what is going to be shown every update. Not every update given is supposed to blow us out of the water. I suppose they can choose to decrease the amount of updates they give, but I like the fact that they are being relatively transparent during this process. Also it's not like they didn't give us anything. They gave us great new screenshots and they confirmed sloped runways, which was a pretty big subject on this forum.
  4. To be fair, there may be other reasons, such as coverage, that factor in.
  5. Personally, I don't expect the likes of PMDG to be available at launch of MSFS. I don't quite understand why people think that is even a possibility. It would take a bit of a leap of faith, on the 3rd party dev's part, to invest in making a plane for a new sim that MIGHT not have the numbers to show that it would be profitable for them to do so. If anything, I can see them looking into making a plane maybe a half a year or more down the road if they have solid data that it has enough demand to make it financially feasible to them. How long has it taken for X-Plane to get a PMDG? All I feel MSFS should to do is provide a nice comprehensive SDK and give freedom to 3rd party devs (freeware/payware) and not try to force them into scenarios where MS can cuts into the dev's profits. As for me, I'll likely purchase at launch because I want to support the effort.
  6. You can also see in the trailer that it doesn't have those focus effects when looking at the panel.
  7. Is there a way to disable the photo scenery that comes with MK-studios and just orbx?
  8. Worth a shot. 😛 You got me bud. Did you make sure that your antivirus/firewall was turned off when you ran the install?
  9. Did you try to uninstall/reinstall gsx?
  10. Just wanted to say thanks for your review in that post Samaritano linked to. That was actually one of the main reasons I went and picked up the iFLY 744 a while back. I would have gone PMDG, but honestly I don't see myself flying it that often to justify the price.
  11. Probably won't solve the issue, but have you tried pressing Q twice to reset the sound?
  12. In a sense, at least to me, there may not be much of a point to invite devs at this juncture. Companies like PMDG and the others are taking a very cautious approach to this sim. That's understandable. I think, if anything, they are waiting to see how the sim pans out before even considering looking at the SDK. Why spend time looking over an SDK if they don't even know if the sim itself will be successful or not. It takes time and money to develop a plane for a new sim. I think all you can do as Microsoft is say that the SDK is available, and let the devs decide whether they want to dev for it or not. On top of that, I'm not even quite sure that the sim is ready for the SDK to be opened up yet.
  13. If I was in your position and I need a 737 ng now, but I am willing to shell out more money later if need be, I'd probably take advantage of the sale and go with the iFly. When PMDG releases their updated 737, I would evaluate it at that time. If I could wait and don't want to pay more than I have to, then I would consider waiting for the update to the PMDG.
  14. Without going too much into detail, an RF leg is basically a set curve path between two waypoints, on approach, to avoid obstacles or follow landmarks, etc. It also takes your plane's performance capabilities into account. They are used commonly in RNAV RNP approaches to save track miles/time/fuel/etc. Yes PMDG are doing a new version of the NGX. I'm not exactly sure what's going to be included, more details to come.
  15. Honestly, I have never tried both, so you can ignore this. However, from what I've seen... the general consensus is that both planes are great. They both simulate most of the typical operations. The PMDG does go a bit more in depth on systems than the ifly, overall, and you can simulate more failures, etc. So it's considered to be the better modeled (not sure if I should state it that way) plane. To be fair, the iFly does do things that the current iteration of the PMDG doesn't, like RF legs. Note that PMDG is currently working on the NG3 for their 737's, so that will change things. I deeply respect both developers and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend both. *Note* Also wanted to add in that iFly stated that after the next service pack (I don't think it has been released yet), they will cease development on the 737NG series.
  16. If you're dead set on only purchasing one between those two, then the more prudent thing to do is wait for FSDT to release their KORD and you can make a determination at that point.
  17. As a bit of an aside, does anyone know if they announced that they will be updating terminal 1 at KSFO?
  18. I had that issue before, but it was not due to the scenery complexity setting. It was because my scenery library was not quite put in the correct order.
  19. No problem! Drzewiecki Designs is pretty prolific within flight sim. They are pretty high regarded and make great scenery, especially for the price. One thing to note with them is that they are actually doing a chicago airports pack, not just KORD. With that you will get KORD, KMDW, and KPWK at a pretty good price (possibly 35 euro but don't quote me). Another company named Skyline Simulations i also working on KORD, I believe, but they have been pretty quiet on the development end. They're primarily known for x-plane sceneries, but from what I could see they look fantastic, so I am interested to see what they bring to P3D.
  20. For the updated KORD, they are still in development by both companies: Some pictures of the sceneries: http://www.fsdreamteam.com/forum/index.php/topic,20815.0.html http://drzewiecki-design.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=417&start=45#p16510 There is an older version of KORD from FSDT that is available now, but my recommendation is to hold off and wait for the update. KLAX from FSDT is also available now. It is getting somewhat dated but it's still great in my opinion. FSDT has announced that they will likely pursue upgrading KLAX, but that likely won't happen any time soon as they want to update their KJFK scenery first.
  21. Wait for FSDT or Drzewiecki Designs (whichever is better to you) to release KORD. FSDT KLAX is still pretty good imo. They are looking to update it later though.
  22. I could be very wrong about how I've been approaching this, so someone feel free to correct me. One thing when it comes to installing liveries is that it would be a good idea to note which ones go with which model/variant. It's not really that big of a deal since it will give you an error message and it won't install that particular livery if the model is not matched up. If you have a livery for both the 757-200 and -300 you will need to select each model and upload the corresponding liveries for that.
