  1. Sure. When you go to the link, scroll to the bottom of the page and you need to locate "Orbx Libraries 130909 install last". Everytime I install any scenery from Orbx, or even re install, I always re install the library again. And I think that's what Orbx folks say to do also. http://www.fullterrain.com/support.html I was just over at the orbx forum hoping to find a thread that may be the same problem you're having, however, I came back over to answer you. I'll go back over and keep looking. Do you have the FTX Global update version 1.10 installed? If not, and you don't have it, it's on the same page (just as you start scrolling down). Rod
  2. I didn't know what you installed. Thanks, now I know. I'm not sure what may be causing the problem. What I understand is you Orbx FTX Global and the Orbx PNW installed. Now you have bad textures in the Hong Kong area. umm. Strange. I agree with Michael, you may have to run over to the Orbx Forum and ask them, or just check in their forum. Like I mentioned before, you may find the cause and solution without asking a question. If I get a chance, I'll look around also. Do you have FTX Global checked in the FTX Central while flying outside of PNW? However, I'm not sure if that would cause that. Also, did you installed the latest Object Library dated 130909? I wish I could help more....sorry. Rod
  3. Sir, What did you install? What other addons do you have installed? If you installed an Orbx Scenery, you also need to install the most up to date Object Library, which is dated 130909, then run FTX Central for the area you want. Sometimes that solves most of the problems. Would like to help but not knowing what you just installed, and what you already have installed is hard to answer your question(s) since Orbx has so many different sceneries. Also, if you visit the Orbx forum you might find a thread or two that someone wrote, with the same problem. That's where I find the solutions to my problems without even asking. Rod
  4. If you buy a region, without buying/installing FTX Global, you should download the most current object library from their website, and install it. That will give you all the objects for that region (all regions and airports). You will then have an updated FTX Central for you to switch back and forth from FSX Default (since you wouldn't have FTX G installed) and the region you will be flying in. And, if and when ORBX creates more region and airport scenery, they will work with or without FTX Global. Rod
  5. Without going on the Orbx forum and looking for the answer, I've always had the three boxes unchecked and installed the non-orbx scenery. Some of my scenery made with ADE, and the scenery for my online flying club has to be at the top of the scenery library in order to see it in FSX. Anyways, once I install it, I then go back to FTX Central and check the boxes. Hope it works for you. Rod
  6. Adam....Well said. I totally agree with every word you typed. Rod
  7. Chris, Definitely a small world. I started training in April 2004 and received my PPL Oct '04. Might have to drop out at Felts while you're in town, and have a visit. I'll buy you a cup of coffee at the Skyway Café. It's been a long time since I've been out there. Was 738BS orange and white? I was going through my photo album looking for the three 172s I flew while I was there for training, and after I received my PPL I rented. The first 172 I flew, and flew the most was N3334E, then it was N733BT. But I can't remember the third, and I'm sure it orange and white, and, I'm sure the first number was 7. ha After I received my PPL I flew 3BT all the time. You may remember the 210 that caught on fire in Kalispell that Felts owned. I copiloted that aircraft a couple of times during some test flights. Didn't control the aircraft, just took readings of all gauges. Flew from Felts to COE and back for the test flights. That was fun. Then I went back to Montana and haven't flown since. I miss it a lot. My brother flies a King Air (Chief Pilot) for the company that owns Justin Boot Company out of Fort Worth. A couple of years ago he flew up here in his 172. I've flown with him a couple of times during my visits down there. He and my dad, and my wife are the ones that got me into getting my PPL once I retired from the military. Again, Small World. Rod
  8. Jim....Good question about the which BC to take with me. Well, I always take my oldest male as he and I've been together for 8 1/2 years and I took him through his AKC Championship (confirmation) back in '06. I do have a female I've had for 7 years, and she's always by my side too. I guess I could take both of 'em, and leave mom with the "kids". Two six month old pups and their mother. Started flying R/Cs in 1989. Was the President of Post Fall Flyers Club for a couple of years. Am the webmaster for their site. http://allons7.wix.com/post-falls-flyers There are a lot of airports in Mt and Id which would be good challenges for ya. Too many to list. The invite still stands for that cup of coffee Jim. Rod Pic of me, with my instructor, after my first solo with N733BT. Photo taken on Felts Field. Then he cut my shirt tail off.
  9. Jim....I just noticed, on the Orbx Bonners Ferry thread you are the developer. So I had to jump back to this thread and sure enough, you are the one with the love/hate relationship. Now I understand. Again, fantastic work. I might have to drive up to Bonners Ferry and meet you, since I'm not to far away. I would love to know how that scenery was created (You don't have to tell me). I've been doing the best I can with ADE.....can't get the hang of sketchup..... would love to do some good scenery of my home town and airport S00..Opheim, MT. I was just explaining this little story to my wife and she said I should get in the truck, along with one of my border collies, we have five, and head to Polson. It's only about a 4 1/2 hour drive, I think. I know it takes 3 hours to get to Missoula from my house, and should be about an hour and half from there. If I do, I'll take as many photos as you want. Now Jim, keep in mind, I'm NOT doing this for a free copy of the scenery, I'm doing this because I want to. Since I'm retired, and not much happening, I might just do that for ya. Shoot, I haven't been on that road for a few years, and, might do me good to get a way for a while. Of course I'd have to sacrifice time away from flying. Too bad I'm not current in my real world flying (medical and flight review), I'd rent a 172 and fly to Polson. Also, do you get out to your airport much? Just wondering as I'd like to know if the old 172 I took lessons in is still there. N733BT. If you ever plan on coming down to Post Falls or the Couer d'Alene area, drop me a PM, and I'll buy ya a cup of coffee for developing that great scenery of Bonners Ferry. Rod
  10. John, I didn't know your brother as I graduated in '73, then moved away in '76. Same here, to know another simmer from Montana. It would definitely be nice if ORBX would make more scenery of Montana...especially the western part. I spent a lot of time in the Kalispell, Bigfork, Ferndale area. My wife is from Bigfork, and a lot of relatives from Kalispell, Columbia Falls, and Whitefish area. I do have the Northwest region from Orbx, and it's great. After installing FTX Global, I was hoping the Opheim area would've been better than the default, however, it's not. Matter of a fact, it's nothing but forest now, and as you know there are NOT that many trees in the Opheim area. ha. Keep 'Em Flyin' Rod
  11. Born and raised in MT (Opheim....waaayyy up north..ha) myself, I'm excited about the KBZN that Orbx is creating. Have been to Bozeman many times (uncle and aunt live there), and to the airport a couple of times. Traveled all that country a few times also. The Bozeman area is a great place to visit, or live. I will purchase it as soon as it's available. Orbx developers have put a lot of pics of the scenery on their website too. And, Bonners Ferry scenery....Fantastic. The last I knew, as I searched for it, one of the Cessna 172s (N733BT) I took my PPL training in is now [stationed] in Bonners Ferry. My profile picture is of me in it. I wonder if it's still there. Rod
  12. I've repainted the Carenado Baron with my flying club's colors. It came out pretty good. I used DXTBMP and PaintShopPro X6 for converting and painting. One of the club members told me how to do it in Photoshop, however, I don't have Photoshop, but it was the same. It wasn't hard once I figured out the steps, which took about 30 minutes. I would open the BMP file with DXTBMP, save a copy of the "Alpha" file (what ever it is..ha), "send" it to PSP X6, create a layer, paint (there's another step which I can't remember what it's called without opening everything up), save it as a PSP file, reload the PSP file into DXTBMP along with the saved Alpha, then save as a DXT5 Bmp texture back into the texture folder. Of course I copied the texture to another directory to do all this first. I'm going to experiment with the other Carenado aircraft I have, and if I remember, I'll let you know how they come out. Rod

    Win 8

I have had the 737NGX on my Win8 system for about three weeks....no problems. I use FSUIPC for the controls, also using Active Sky 2012, EZDOK, and TrackIR 5. Rod
  14. I agree with Hirdy2013. "I don't want this to sound rude but why wouldn't you register in the forums so as to get support immediately from ORBX?" Why criticize is in the first place? Just ask a question, and they will answer it. Just register, then you can surf the forum for all of your answers without even asking a question. I've asked one question, along with pictures of my problem, and in less than 24 hours I was given the solution. Other than that, just surf and you will find so much great info. I found good info and fixes without asking a question. Rod
  15. Chad, you are absolutely correct by asking how everything is supposed to work...ha I think I spent a couple of hours searching all the compatibility threads at Orbx, this forum, and who knows where else. I got this info from the Orbx forum, which is a great place to go to get your answers, especially when you include FTX products. However, this is not going to give you all the answers, of course, but it may be a start. I just spent about 10 minutes looking for the thread dealing with SceneryTech, on the Orbx forum, but didn't find the thread I was looking for. I do remember something there about all the different software you listed above. Rod The best advice I can give, rather than "put this here, put that there" is to simply think of it like an office pin board... Whatever piece of paper is put up last will cover up the paper below... but if it's a different size, you might still see a bit sticking out the side Also, FSX treats different types of scenery differently: MESH - FSX will always use the most detailed mesh that is has for an area. It does not matter where in the list mesh scenery is placed, but I prefer to keep it toward the bottom just to keep things tidy. Examples would be FS Global, FTX Regions, FS Genesis. Order in the library = Does Not Matter TEXTURES - Textures don't have an entry in the library. They are simply installed into a folder for use when needed. Autogen is a part of the texture so also is not in the library. Examples would be FTX Global, GEX. Order in the Library = Not Applicable (does not have a library entry) LANDCLASS - This type of scenery needs some thought when adding it to your library, or when reorganizing the library... This is because whatever landclass is placed on top, is what you will see. If you have a full FTX region, the landclass data is hand placed and is the best available, so it should be on top. If you have any other landclass software above it, you will see that one instead. Examples would be Open LC, UTX, FTX Full Region. Order in the Library = Most detailed on top, but does not have to be at the top of the library. VECTOR - Most vector scenery packages come with an "exclude" which will turn off any other vector scenery below it in the library. So, just like landclass, you have to decide which vector data you want to see then place it on the top of that list. It does not have to be on the top of the library, just on the top of all other vector sceneries. Examples would be FTX Full Region, UTX, USA Roads. Order in the Library = Most detailed on top, but does not have to be at the top of the library. CUSTOM OBJECTS - This includes any 3D objects like bridges, cities, airports etc. Because a lot of other scenery packs have "excludes" to suppress the scenery below it, 3D custom scenery should always be placed toward the top of the library = The one you want on top and above any other scenery types. The key to managing you library is to know exactly what type of scenery you are dealing with (Landclass, Vector, Mesh, Custom) then think of each type seperately. It sounds complicated, but think of it like this: CUSTOM 1 CUSTOM 2 CUSTOM 3 LANDCLASS 1 LANDCLASS 2 VECTOR 1 VECTOR 2 MESH 1 MESH 2 This would give exactly the same results as: MESH 1 CUSTOM 1 CUSTOM 2 CUSTOM 3 LANDCLASS 1 VECTOR 1 LANDCLASS 2 VECTOR 2 MESH 2 But example 1 is much tidier I think at this point, I can't really explain the library any better than this... And while I am certainly happy to give general advice and help people understand how the sim is working and how to apply that knowledge to organize the library, it would be a full time job to do so on an individual level... And sadly my boss at my real full time job might have an issue with that! I hope this helps a little... Good luck!
  16. Adam...not sure what the problem is. Recommend going to the Orbx support forum and they may have had some inquiries about that same issue. I'm not sure if this has anything to do with it, but, ensure you load, or reload, the latest Orbx Library dated 130820. I always reload that library after I install any Orbx stuff. And, don't forget about the update for FTX GLobal, version 1.10. Hope you get it figured out. Rod
  17. I guess I'm just that lucky one again. Installed the FTX Global 1.10 (update) with no problems. I went through Orbx's forum and found one thread with a couple of people stating they had the same problem. When asked for their order number of FTX Global, they didn't answer. So, I'm wondering also, do they have pirated copies? Hope you guys get this figured out. Rod
  18. Anthony.... I should go fly my PMDG 737NGX aircraft and see what happens, as I just reinstalled FSX and Active Sky 2012, and, purchased PMDG a/c. I also have the registered version of FSUIPC, so, my question is do you have the option in your FSUIPC to "Disable all weather settings"? I just noticed in the manual to do that. Also I got this from the ReadMe file for Active Sky 2012: FSUIPC (if installed and FSUIPC wind smoothing/turbulence effects are enabled) - Edit These FSUIPC.ini settings: TurbulenceRate=0.5,2.5 TurbulenceDivisor=40,40,80,80 That maybe for only the registered version though. Just trying to help....Hope you get it figured out. Rod
  19. I guess I'm just a lucky one, as I have FSX on a WIN8 system, and since I've configured my controls with FSUIPC I've had no problems. I also fly the PMDG 737NGX series with FSUIPC controlling my yoke and pedals. Still no problems. I'm with Doug Miannay by saying I don't understand all of this either, but for sure, FSUIPC is working for me. Hope everyone gets it figured out. Happy flyin' to all...........Rod
  20. Did you happen to post this on the Orbx forum? I'm sure they would much appreciate this post. They definitely do make great scenery. I have a lot of their scenery and have been to many of the places in real life, and their scenery looks right on 99% of the time. That other 1% doesn't matter. You wouldn't happen to have pics of the area you flew, do you? I'm going to have to fly your route and check it out. Thanks........Rod
  21. Beautiful....amazing.....very nice. I wish I knew how and could do that. Rod
  22.     Same here...WIN8/x64 since January and runs better than ever. However, I have a faster machine now too. I had the same issue of losing my yoke and pedals, but with FSUIPC (payware version), no problems since. I read different threads, on different forums, and the main thing everyone talked about was to install FSX in a different directory other than the default directory. I installed mine under just C:\FSX. Everything worked fine. Then, I decided to experiment and uninstalled, re-installed into the default directory a couple of months ago, run as Administrator (along with all other addons ie, EZDOK, ACTIVE SKY, TRACKIR 5) and have had no problems at all. Hope you get it figured out. Rod
