Orbx openLC NA - Quick Night Lighting Before and After

I'm not much of a screenshot taker so forgive me for any ugliness, but I thought some would want to see the night lighting difference. These are from P3D just north of KOJC. Using Vector and openLC NA. I didn't change a thing between shots other than installing openLC NA.

  I'm liking the longer draw distance for the night lighting. The overall look is much improved over the old orbx lights.

Strange I'm not getting the same effect with the lighting.

 

There's an OLC_NA_Lights scenery area in the scenery library. Maybe that ended up disabled somehow? Here's a quick comparison with the lights area enabled and disabled. Looks like it's the major roads and highways that change. 

 

If you want to check your sim, go to KOJC runway 36, and just slew up to 8k feet. That's all I did to get the below pictures.

Ok it is working, it seems you only get the orangish colored lights in areas in  \Prepar3D v3\ORBX\FTX_OLC\OLC_NA_LIGHTS\scenery

 

Just flew around Detroit and it's a big difference.

Good grief, thank you for this!   That must be an error in their installer, I didn't have that layer active.   What a huge difference it makes.

 

Looking southeast towards Midway and beyond from O'Hare:

Can anyone that has UTX comment on the difference between this new lighting from Orbx vs UTX?  I'm thinking too that in order to see the UTX night lighting I will have to turn off UTX or put Orbx above in the scenery library.  If I just shut off UTX night lighting, will the Orbx lights then just show up on the vector data from UTX?  Or, I seem to remember a tweak that had to be done to force one kind of light over the other by setting the UUID somewhere to be that of the lights you wanted.  Is that still needing to be done?  I think in the end, I would like to have UTX for vector data only and then LC, and lighting from Orbx.

You would need FTX Global + OpenLC NA. The lights are far better than the UTX ones which are limited to the autogen draw distance. I don't know how the OrbX tech works but I assume it's similar to Night Environment. In other words it's practically unlimited draw distance with very little FPS hit.

 

Trust me if you like night lighting, this is the way to go right now. It covers all of North America's larger cities, and it will be added to OpenLC Europe in a free update later on too.

Thanks guys. :smile: I'm definitely loving the release and I can't wait to see these lights everywhere. Just need some more free time to really dig in and enjoy it some more.

I'm glad it helped. Your shots really show that the new night lighting gets even better with the bigger cities. Not that the Kansas City area (Where I took my shots) is tiny, but it's no Chicago. Can't wait to fly into NY or San Fran and see the improvement.

Yeah, I think "ugly" was probably the wrong word choice, "basic" probably would have been more appropriate as there's not much to them, just a couple simple shots.

I didn't notice an FPS hit, although I'm sure it's there. I have noticed a VAS decrease, but I think that's to be expected given the massive improvement.

How would this work in conjunction with an orbx region??  Would the improved lighting still function if you are flying in an area you have a full orbx region?
