X-Enviro is OUT

Recommended Posts

They responded to my issue above, asking for the log file, a little late for that. Anyways, it's still an ongoing issue for me, so I was able to send a log with a bunch of screenshots today. Haven't heard anything yet, but they have responded to my support ticket. Yes, when it works it's great, but seems unstable at best, at the moment.

You might want to check out their Facebook page. https://www.facebook.com/groups/xenviro/?fref=nf

It seems the programmer is updating his system and doing a bit of base work. Might not be following the support issues as quickly as some would like. I too have submitted a few support tickets for similar issues to above. I am guessing work is progressing on these issues.

Following up from my last post, had another crash today after a 50 minute flight.  When Xenviro went to download a weather update, XP crashed to desktop.

It doesn't happen every time Xenviro updates weather, but for whatever reason it continuously crashes my sim at some point the moment it tries to update weather.  I can confirm my internet connection was fine the entire time, before, during, and after the flight.

This thread now seems dead, is no one else having this problem?

And, further concerns, a bunch of problem reporting threads were deleted over on the .org site under their support section.  I'm rather concerned with how this is progressing at this point.  Just an FYI to those curious about this particular add-on.  It's great when it works, but it often doesn't, and any support forum that deletes threads instead of offering help??? Well..........

Please, someone, tell me what's going on here?  I know Rich loves these guys and seems in contact, any thoughts?

Hi Allen,

I am the one posting on the org having the same CTD behaviour. Since my internet connection becomes stable again, but still suffering random CTDs, now I am guessing maybe the CTDs are caused by some glitches/invalid data in the weather report send to xEnviro.

Here is the example http://forums.x-pilot.com/forums/topic/12355-smp-still-crashes-with-metar-parsing/ Although the topic is about SMP, maybe the same philosophy as xEnviro. Just my guess, and correct me if I am wrong.

Best,

Shane

I'm having this issue as well, seems related to when it downloads weather. Can happen immediately or at any point in flight. Log shows it is happening at a weather download interval.

Hi Shane, thanks for the feedback!  I read through that thread you linked regarding SMP, wonder if it is a similar issue?  Is odd though that I've used Active Sky for years using real weather and never ran into this causing a crash.  Suppose that's two different things though.

Seems all record of the CTD threads are gone over on the .org support site.  Disappointing to say the least to see that happen on a payware support forum without even a mention of why.  I guess I'll be taking a break from over there, I was sent a warning from admin to shut my mouth as asking why was abusive.

It's a great program when it works, but I currently can't get through a complete flight with it enabled without a crash to desktop.  Turned off, things are stable.

I'm having this issue as well, seems related to when it downloads weather. Can happen immediately or at any point in flight. Log shows it is happening at a weather download interval.

Yep, this is exactly what is happening to me as well.  It can be the first update, or at any point later, but usually within an hour or so of launching XP.  This is on XP10.51.

Take care all.

Xenviro got back to me about the "fogged in" issue, whatever you want to call it. They hope to have it resolved in version 1.07, I hope so as well.

Thanks for reporting.  Not sure what is currently going on with their support scheme.   Keep us posted, as all of us over on the their .org site are out of luck.

They have new staff members and taking care of tickets. They contact me about the 3 monitors issue and told me that they are working to get this fixed on next release. That's good news.

Here's another thing that's bothering me right now with XEnviro 1.06, aside from sudden weather changes and some weirdness with rain layers. It's cloud bitmaps that repeat too often. You'd think that with 2D bitmaps taking up very little room in RAM, they could use a few more separate images so you don't get repeats like this.

For example, this doesn't look very realistic to me to begin with, but look at the repeats:

XEnviro-repeats-01.jpg

In case it isn't obvious (and I think it is), here are two of the repeating shapes outlined. There are at least two more repeating bitmaps I didn't outline and aren't as obvious:

XEnviro-repeats-02.jpg

To be fair, SkyMaxx Pro v4 sometimes shows obvious repeating cloud shapes, but it's not as glaring as this. The general appearance of clouds doesn't have this hard-edged, pasted-on look, and clouds move with the wind.

I'm not bailing out of XEnviro yet, but it's hard not to notice this kind of thing. I know they're working on better cloud appearance, so let's hope they can get a few more cloud shapes in the inventory as well.

Ouch, that looks horrible. I guess we're still waiting for decent clouds in X-plane. So far just 2 expensive products that look pretty bad.

Never saw such a poor cloud rendition in my flights, I must be lucky. Again I think I'm quite happy most of the times, sometimes I'm not and I change location or load SMP, when we'll have historical weather I guess most of these problems will be sorted out.

Honestly I've seen poor rendition of weather especially with sparse fake clouds also in AS16 videos.

Yes, although I'm generally a big fan of xEnviro those repeating bitmaps do grind after a while. That one highlighted in yellow on Paraffin's picture especially gets on my nerves a bit. Hopefully this will be ameliorated over time.

There are plenty of shots on here of xEnviro looking waaaay better than this.

It's been a week I've been flying over Greece testing a scenery and always got plausible and realistic weather depiction. And I never fly higher then 3000 feet. Some shots were breathtaking totally on par with AS16+this+that shots you can see everywhere. Noticed however some bitmaps not rotating when performing sharp turn. Something I do expect from a version 1 of a new product. Settings are sometimes important to get the best rendition.

I really cannot understand what we could ask more from an addon. Roadmap is promising but even in this stage I'm quite satisfied with my purchase. If I think that yesterday I spent 30 euros for 16 pieces of rice covered with a tiny slice of fish...all lost this morning

Well, to be fair I shouldn't judge since I haven't actually tried X-Enviro, so I'll keep watching. However, Skymaxx has forever made me skeptical and cautious about what I buy. All the Skymaxx promotional screens looked good, and everyone tends to post their best shots on the forums, but when you actually install and use the product, most of it looks bad. On top of that, we pay a hefty price tag for Skymaxx pro cloud graphics. At least X-Enviro offers more.

Of course, and I have to say that most of the time when I'm flying, XEnviro looks very good. But it doesn't take much to break immersion when something goes wrong.

This shot of repeating cloud bitmaps is actually a minor flaw. It took me a few seconds to realize why it looked so wonky. I can live with that. It's the strange ground layers of rain with nothing above, and the sudden snap changes in weather that are more disturbing.
