April 27, 200917 yr As with everything computer related, we all tend toward the dramatic--we want WOW! I like the effect but have found as I get use to it that I want less of it--highlights to the clouds mostly. Subtle is better. I use a "buttkicker" sometimes (If you don't know what that is, never mind). A subtle vibration and rumble become much more realistic than shaking the fillings out of your teeth even though there is a brief WOW moment doing that.To each his/her own. Just my thoughts.
April 28, 200917 yr All,I've given it a try and there is a difference just not sure what it is. It says in the video it's for all Nvidia 9xxx series cards so maybe it's because I'm using at GT 250 which is really an 8 series then 9 and now 250.I tested it using the Maule and the cockpit gauges are so bright with lights on at dusk and at night they are unreadable. I guess there must be a setting in the ini. file?? Anyone played with it yet? Getting late and to sleepy to test anymore.Craig
April 28, 200917 yr Commercial Member This reply is directed at those shots posted by user "Orbx"Those shots are really nice, and by that I mean vivid colors and cool anglesBut I gotta say that they don't look realistic at all.... I'm a real pilot and if I look up in the bright blue sky (not at the sun hehe) and then quickly back at the ground, it's not extremely dark as per those screenshots. I know it can be tweaked but the effect in general is not really adding realism, it's adding an artistic effect. It makes the skies look like a soft glow filter was applied, and that's not at all what I see when I fly, even on hazy days.If I could quote Nick N "It Cheers, John Venema
April 28, 200917 yr Well said, John.I too have been enjoying FSX more since the release of this DLL. It makes the world look a lot livelier. Tired of Streetlights everywhere? Try MSFS DarkStreets today!
April 28, 200917 yr I was amazed earlier, when flying the flight1 pilatus pc-12 into the sun, it actually flashed at me through the movement of the propeller!! WOW
April 28, 200917 yr I guess there must be a setting in the ini. file?? Anyone played with it yet?LOL Six pages into the topic and you ask if anyone played with it yet... :( You indeed needed a rest. :( Anyway, if gauges are way too bright, lower the BloomMaxLimit in the ini. Default is 100. I have it at 85, but a lot of settings need lower or higher settings to obtain the same result on other systems. If you are mainly having problems at dusk and night you need to check some other settings (just read the complete topic! :( ), although it must be said that there are people who turn the effect of during dusk and dawn and night, because it just doesn't work that well at those times. If I disable it during daytime flight, the whole world looks lifeless and almost 2D now.Every now and then I press Shift-F12, just for the fun of it, to see how it was before the dll arrived, and everytime I am shocked (how flat and dull FSX looks without it) and amazed (how awesome FSX looks with it). The funny thing is that I keep on being surprised by the difference! I just can't get used to the immense difference! Everytime I turn the effect off it's like I am slapped in the face... oh man, how awfull! What a difference! Terrifying! How could I have liked this...!!! B) FSX has become FS11. Well... FX10,9 to be honest: if someone could solve the popping autogen it will be FS11! B) (BTW It's not FS10,9/FS11 only thanks to the dll, but also thanks to (not in random order) FTX, FEX and ASA.)
April 28, 200917 yr I use and like it too, really brings out the shades of the sky/clouds with the cloud of your choice. I use REX, and it seems to just add a great deal of depth to the textures. It reminds me a little of GRID from codemasters, which is verging on photo realistic detail. The biggest improvement to me is definitely the sky and contrast. -Scotty
April 28, 200917 yr It reminds me a little of GRID from codemasters, which is verging on photo realistic detail.Yes, I was thinking the same too! I remember playing the GRID demo for the first time: WOW! I have the same WOW with FSX now: it looks as if FSX has been given a GRID treatment. Which is very nice!
April 28, 200917 yr Yes, I was thinking the same too! I remember playing the GRID demo for the first time: WOW! I have the same WOW with FSX now: it looks as if FSX has been given a GRID treatment. Which is very nice!True, GRID's HD effect is stunning, it is too bad the physics of that game are so far off it would have been better. I love that effect for FSX too, I just need to tweak it a little. I'm just using it with the default settings and it is pretty good as is. -Scotty

April 28, 200917 yr The older 074 version worked for me, wheras the newer one does not.OK here is my new .ini file for the older version (let's call it the v0.074 version as per what is displayed on startup).[ENGINE]ForceAnisotropicFiltering=0MaxAnisotropy=8ForceDisplayRefreshRate=0DisplayRefreshRateHz=60[MOTIONBLUR]MotionBlurQuality=1MotionBlurVelocity=0MotionBlurRotation=0Hope this helps folks who could not get the original .dll working.IMHO this is a wonderful addition to FSX and really breathes new life into the visuals. It's the bloom effect we were meant to have :)Hey, I was checking out your .ini file when some lines caught my eye. Does the motionblur in the config work or has anyone tried it. I think we have just changed FS in an extreme way! Motionblur could and tons to the sim! If I get time I will try it out.EDIT: NVM. I give up on the addon untill it can be made specifically for FSX with all the bugs worked out with little performance hit and better bloom. The HDR in the old one is too bright and looks unrealistic, I just want it like real life HDR. May 1, 200917 yr I may be wrong, but isn't this the same tweak that was posted here more than 1 year ago?http://forums1.avsim.net/index.php?showtop...mp;hl=bloom+enbThat was when i first tried it, but as it was too FPS hungry, i stopped using it.I wonder if it is the same tweak, though, because some of the guys posting here, posted on that thread also and they would remember. It's also possible that performance is less of an issue because everyone has gotten a better graphics card somewhere during the last year. :( Anyhow, it seems the addon is finally getting attention from everyone now.
