August 29, 200916 yr Moderator I agree. Cloud shadows would really add to the immersion factor a lot. That would be really great if they can pull this off with minimal loss to performance. Avsim Board of Directors | Avsim Forums Moderator
August 29, 200916 yr This looks very good. I just hope they start porting it for FS9 soon. The waiting is getting harder and harder with my kerboard being drooled over and all... August 29, 200916 yr Does anyone STILL think we need FS11 after technology like this from the many super-talented developers out there? I don't. I'm enjoying FSX now more than ever with my new system, and I SO look forward to cloud shadows! Can you imagine how real and good it's going to get?Stan

Maybe as hardware continues to get better and developers get more advanced with their techniques, FSX will serve as a great base for years to come. Just look the the L39 that came out. The guy figured out a way to make rain drops apprear with the VC and the landing lights that reflect off of rain, and now the REX guys figuring out how to make cloud shadows. Maybe this is all we will need for the next 10 years is for developers to continue to push the envelope in design? I for one am excited about what the future holds for flight sim because it seems to be getting better everyday. The only thing that worries me is that the developers that have lately been commenting on theft and such. If the developers say they have had it with FSX developement then we are up a creek without a paddel. Hopefully the best will stick with it and come out with new was to help combat theft. I have too much invested now with all my add-ons. I spent a long time and alot of money trying to catch up to where I was with FS9. I really don't want to do that anytime soon Even if Microsoft does make another sim I could wait another five years to enjoy what I have. I like to see progress so I am in favor of it just not soon. Probably not if this developer moves on to "god-rays" as their next project ;-) FSX is just great on a Core i7 system, don't know why I waited so long. Sure you can kill it with extreme slider/scenario settings, but FS9 works great too for those now.Simon www.supertrafficboard.com

I will be going to the W7 with DX10 shortly and hear that this is a big jump again is the visuals and frame rates so I am letting my FS9 sleep for now.........Question, what is the L39 with the rain drops?? A new program or fix for an existing one??.........Great comments by all B42L8

August 30, 200916 yr Commercial Member I suspect that the frame hit will be similar to the water high/mid setting as you can see cloud/water water reflections at that setting. I think Phil said that it required another render pass to pull off.jja Jim Allen[email protected]SkyPilot Software home of FSXAssist / P3DAssist
August 30, 200916 yr How on earth did the REX developers do that. Phenomenal! RhydianI seem to remember that Peter Wilding and team claimed they were on the brink of achieving this but decided for whatever reason not to bring it to fruition.
