This argument will never be over...FSX users should enjoy your "game" (and your forum), and us fs9 users should do the same. End of discussion. Matt L.

To everyone else...you have to remember...this discussion is not about "who's right"...no one is. It's simply about one groups desire to make their voices heard...whatever the outcome. I'm still trying to find the section of the AVSIM forum Terms of Use which states that only those with the last version of MSFS are allowed to voice an opinion. Try as I might...I can't find it? It must be in there, somewhere...how else did all the FSX'ers get the idea that they can call the issue a "dead horse"? Where else could they have possibly gotten the idea that an issue, resolved in their minds, is an issue resolved for everyone? LOL. Go to the Airsimmer site and watch the whining over the FS9 release before an FSX release...it's hilarious. The ONE thing they don't "get" is this...we are fighting for ANY addon...they are worrying about having to wait for theirs while the FS9 one is finished. I'm sorry...you're having to wait while my version is made is nothing compared to my not having a version at all? All you FSX'ers will excuse me if I don't "feel your pain" :( Victor Buck
February 26, 201016 yr For those interested in trivia: Today, the Avsim poll recorded one new vote for FS9 as prime sim, no votes for FSX.That is, statistically, about as significant as recording a single grain of sand in the ocean!------------On the other hand, many grains of sand in the ocean can build a reef- upon which, great ships may founder.Alex Reid

February 26, 201016 yr To me, a troll is anybody who comes onto a forum and stirs the pot just to get people riled up.For example:vvvvvvvv The problem is many of these FS9 users can't accept that eventually their sim will have to take a back seat to FSX. :( :( Add on makers are starting to 'wake up and smell the coffee' so to speak and sooner or later the FS9 users will do the same. :( B) Bryan.Obviously, he was not trying to add anything constructive to the coversation but rather trying to inflame an already open sore. Hence, in my book, a troll. When an FSX user comes into the fs9 forum and has an episode of mouth spewage about how fsx is so much better than fs9, they are trolling (most likely due to some high school self esteem issue that they are having)...it would be like me going onto a Mitsubishi Evo forum and telling everybody that my STi is better, and that their cars are garbage. It's silly, immature, and in the end, makes me look like an idiot. Matt L.
February 26, 201016 yr IMO, and being 100% honest if i had a top end system i would be using fsx, i have done in the past and enjoyed it on a 3ghz dual core to a certain degree in terms of framerates. I also enjoyed the feel and look of the sim, again to a certain degree due to fps. The facts are no matter what anyone one says, when using fsx, you want that sim maxed out with all the addons you want and you want to use the sim to its finest without all the stuttering and not be in a constant battle looking at a thousand sites trying to tweak this and that to have a flight. Its a challenge to start then you find yourself just being a tester. Like someone has said, when 5ghz is stock and not touching 1000 Chris Howard
February 26, 201016 yr *Time to go back to the upper deck and watch the rest of the game*Becareful, not much room for partying in a Cessna going 140 knots! LOL
February 26, 201016 yr I'm currently not associating myself with any company (by my choice). For the record, I've never been associated with PMDG. I'm just a college student interested in FS and photography. That being said, I'll answer the rest of your queries. :( The AVSIM poll is also meaningless. Lets put it into perspective. Say Fred and Roger are running for governor. On my block, fred gets 10 votes, while roger gets 12. Of course, these results mean absolutely nothing compared to the overall result. 22 votes in a state where 10 million people live is... well... you do the math. OK OK, the AVSIM survey was a little bigger, but it is maybe only representative of people who voted in a small city within the state. What does either survey have to say about the people who don't use AVSIM and didn't fly the RTW race? What does that say about the people who didn't vote for governor in my example? They still live in the state, and still use and buy FS products. You CANNOT make generalizations on a whole population based on VERY small samples. It is hilarious seeing people throw statistics around here without actually knowing what they are talking about. Take a stats class, at the very least! There are more FS9 addons than FSX addons because it is EASIER to develop for FS9 and FS9 has been around for LONGER. To make even a simple repaint for FSX requires more than double the work it took in FS9. To make the rest of the plane requires a whole lot more effort than it did in FS9. The standards are also higher in FSX, thus taking more skill and more time to develop for it. And what a surprise... FS9 has more downloads. Might that have to do with there being 100x more files available? For the last time, PMDG KNOWS WHAT IS RIGHT FOR THEM. THEY WOULDN'T DROP FS9 IF IT WAS WORTH IT FOR THEM. I don't understand why you people cannot get that through your heads. It is NOT in a company's best interest to make decisions that would put them out of business. IF FS9 WAS PROFITABLE FOR THEM, THEY WOULD STILL BE MAKING FS9 ADDONS. PERIOD.Oh, and about the number of posts in the FS9 vs FSX sections. Take a look at another forum like Sim Outhouse that was entirely wiped a while back. The FSX section has 116,000 posts, and the FS9/8 section, 45,000. Truly if the unrepresentative population at SOH is representative of everyone else, there are obviously more FSX users. Oh wait, that's using your guys' logic.Sorry, nothing you asked was thought provoking. Just the usual misuse of statistics and denial that I've seen in every other FS9 vs FSX thread.Off to SQL class... enjoy the rest of the thread!Oh and before I go:Nope. There is nothing wrong with enjoying FS9. I enjoyed it for many thousands of hours myself. What is wrong is misusing statistics which in the end misleads people.Just out of curiosity...... And no, not meant to be mean. But are you affiliated with Acorn in anyway?

It's silly, immature, and in the end, makes me look like an idiot. No, I was just being honest. I suppose I could have stated my opinion in more 'diplomatic' terms. However I stand by my opinion that when you have two major players in the add on market making decisions such as Aerosoft and PMDG have recently done then the writing is clearly on the wall for FS9.I have recently upgraded to a new I7 system and overclocked it to 4.2ghz. The performance increase is a revelation. For example Heathrow with GEX UTX UT2 (full GA and commercial traffic) and rex clouds (cloud setting high) scenery complexity extremely dense, autogen very dense runs at a consistent 27fps.The price for this performance was not cheap, but then again when has investing time and money in FS been so?FSX is really starting to rock now and quite simply FS9 is going to be left in the shade.I appreciate that not everyone has the money to upgrade their rigs ( I have been fortunate to have the resources) but I have to say the almost obsessional support for FS9 and denigration of FSX amongst certain posters is laughable and is based on sheer prejudice and nothing more. I personally don't want developers to spend any more time on a fast fading platform (FS9) and instead devote their time exclusively to the future of FS which is FSX especially as people discovering flight sim will inevitably start with the newer platform.I suppose some members on this forum will be annoyed by my comments but hey either upgrade your pc's and embrace the future or accept that developers are starting to wake up and 'smell the coffee' and stop expecting Devs to work on a platform that is doing nothing but holding back the future.Bryan.
February 26, 201016 yr HelloIt is not predudice , for me it is about preference I just enjoy FS9 moreIf FSX is so good, how would an old sim like FS9 hold it back ? surely it would succeed on its own meritsFacts are that it has not been the success that MS hoped for, in fact it was FSX that finally killed the franchise. At this point both sims are the current sim due to that fact that they are end of line products with the user base split fairly evenlyYou cannot use sales figures for addons to judge the size of the userbase as FS9 users will obviously buy less product as they have most of what they need.Neither are the future of flight simulation (hopefully)One sim is a fully finished rounded product with very few bugs, that runs well on current hardwareThe other is fundamentally broken and is not going to be fixed by its development house and still waits for hardware to catch up.Just enjoy what you have but please don't think that FSX is the future, Microsoft clearly does not.

Hardware is rapidly catching up so really waiting?Just enjoy what you have but please don't think that FSX is the future, Microsoft clearly does not.Replied above. Bryan.
February 26, 201016 yr Blimey this very exciting thread is losing energy . . . . I'm enjoying it so will say, in the hope that it continues the thread, Fs9 is great and FSX sucks :( . It's not pining. It's passed on. This parrot is no more. It has ceased to be. It's expired and gone to meet its maker. This is a late parrot. It's a stiff. Bereft of life, it rests in peace. If you hadn't nailed it to the perch, it would be pushing up the daisies. It's rung down the curtain and joined the choir invisible. THIS IS AN EX-PARROT. I think they were really referring to FSX :( Monty Python's Flying Circus

February 26, 201016 yr I'd been resisting dropping my 2gr + VAT into this conversation, but what the hell, everyone else seems to have had their say in the matter.I like my skies filled with wondrous clouds, "real" simulated weather and AI aircraft seen through the windows of complex airliners. I want my airports extremely detailed, down to the grass and cracks and dirt on the runways and the taxiways. I want to fly to the monstrous uber-hubs of the airline world, such as Frankfrut or Amsterdam, Hong Kong and Atlanta and I want to land amidst the insanity that is 100% AI that serves the given airport (that's 300+ AI aircraft in some busy places). I can do just that with FS9 without cringing and swearing and breaking my joystick (it's happened with my old PC...). Unfortunately, I cannot get the same performance out of FSX, no matter how hard I try. 9-15fps on approach to a busy airport is simply not acceptable for me. That is the only reason I use FS9 and why I'll continue to do so, either until I invest in a liquid-nitrogen cooled rig or someone finally releases a sim that takes advantage of current technology the way it's supposed to.My specs are below, I'm sure they're fairly decent, even as far as FSX is concerned.
