March 25, 201016 yr If you haven't listened to the latest FS Break podcast, the ORBX team thinks it would take more than 20 years to do all of N America. It took more than a year to do the NA Blue scenery alone.Actually Chuck, I could be remembering it wrong but I think John Venema said it would take 20 years to do the whole world. I think his point was that since they go to such labour intensive detail it would demand enormous resources, far beyond what they have available to go much faster than they already are. I suggest that everyone who loves this hobby, whether in FS9 or FSX, should listen to the interview. It is absolutely fascinating how they pulled this sim revolution off and what they have planned for the future. Things look really good.Stephen
March 25, 201016 yr Commercial Member Hi guys,Pacific Fjords will extend north from PNW to join up with Tongass, that's correct. It's the area from above Port Hardy up to the Bella Coola area. We'll also release a seperate PAKT Ketchikan Intl.We do plan to do East Coast NA at some point, but we're a small(ish) team and we felt that simmers would prefer for us to create a much larger contingious area to begin with. For North Rockies we can of course re-use some PNW assets but the geography there is very different and drier than PNW so there's new work involved for sure. That said, it won't take as long as PNW to complete. Cheers, John Venema
March 25, 201016 yr "We do plan to do East Coast NA at some point, but we're a small(ish) team"John, allow me to volunteer my services to make your smaller team one man bigger and work for you on the east coast.. my commute to AUS is a bit long, about 22 hours each way. :( seriously, i know everyone wants their back yard done yesterday but i look forward to the new projects planned for the immediate and long term future.Kyle
March 26, 201016 yr Great to hear John,Thank You! This is a fantastic exciting time for FSX Flightsim.
March 26, 201016 yr Exactly my feeling. I actually find flying in unfamiliar territory much more exciting - sort if like being on some flying vacation :(I understand that as well - for some, having a more realistic representation (but potentially unfamiliar) scenery below them is key to the experience... ...and I am certain from the accolades that have been presented that the Orbx packages are head and shoulders above what is out there today. Having spent time in the air in my region over the past few years gathering hours towards my PPL, I really appreciate seeing local landmarks and sights... making the visual approach to the very runway I solo'ed on... being able to go from airport to airport in the region without having to open a GPS... I'm actually quite jealous of those in the PNW who use the sim in this fashion, because their experience just got that much better!Either way - I'll be holding out hope and eagerly awaiting any northeastern USA editions. The region holds some surprisingly interesting and diverse scenery. I should know! I've flown over lots of it! Until then, I've been doing a little of my own scenery design in this vein to improve the landscapes I fly over... nothing for public consumption, but enough to get me by until it can be done professionally! Go Orbx Go! -Greg
March 26, 201016 yr I am chomping at the bit for Orbx Florida, there are no really good sceneries for FL, and it's my home state.C'mon John make it happen! Here, here!!!Me too, especially south Florida. I would love it if they would do from Ft. Lauderdale all the way down to the Keys. That would be fantastic! (including Ft. Jefferson in the Dry Tortugas). They could even extend Eastward to include the Bahamas.I'm from Daytona, and would love an Orbx Florida too. I'd buy that in a heartbeat. Actually, I'll probably buy anything they put out :(Agreed! Alexander Alonso
March 26, 201016 yr Either way - I'll be holding out hope and eagerly awaiting any northeastern USA editions.>> No Northeast US? None of my money gets spent on Orbx. The way to "holding out hope" is to support Orbx in their current endeavors, Orbx may never be around to do NE if people have the attitude - unless this is my backyard I ain't buying... Michael J.
March 26, 201016 yr >> No Northeast US? None of my money gets spent on Orbx. The way to "holding out hope" is to support Orbx in their current endeavors, Orbx may never be around to do NE if people have the attitude - unless this is my backyard I ain't buying...Although I don't agree with greggerm (I fly above Orbx scenery because it's awesome and I don't care all their addons are situated on the other side of my part of the world), I also do not agree with that 'support Orbx in their current endeavors' remark... Orbx is not a charity project: they are a commercial company and if they make something I don't like or need I won't buy it. I do not buy products to support a commercial company (any company, not only Orbx): I buy them because I like them or need them or whatever. I see no reason to buy their products just to make sure they will make something I might like in the end. Or whatever reason. I don't mind if people do: it's their money :( , but to me it doesn't make sense and it's a bit over the top. IMHO!!! :( BTW If I would do that, I would be bankrupt in a day...Luckily Orbx already made something I like a LOT. PNW is the best scenery addon EVER. I even bought 7S3 and 1S2, which were my first addon airports ever.
March 26, 201016 yr Yes! OrbX NZ!!!! Have been waiting for that ever since their first product for Austrialia was released.Visited NZ back in 2002 and have been longing back ever since... NZ is a hugely under-estimated area in the FS world. Godzone makes some good stuff (own most of it), but they're only "small" parts of NZ and it doesn't match up to the quality level of OrbX. March 27, 201016 yr Commercial Member So I assume Northern Rockies will pick where PNW currently stops along the east?So it will basically just continue PNW eastward? B. York FS2Crew Web Site / FS2Crew Facebook Page / FS2Crew Discord
March 27, 201016 yr PS: By the way if you have not gone Waltzing Matilda down by the billybog with their Australian scenery you are missing a truly great experience. The love and attention these geniuses have lavished on their beloved homeland is a joy to behold. :( It has been contagious to thousands around the world.Well said Stephen I find it to be a prettier environment than the PNW in many ways. Less cluttered, and pleasant. I only have Blue. What's the next to get for Australia?Noel Noel System: 9900X3D Noctua NH-D15 G2, MSI Pro 650-P WiFi, G.SKILL 64GB (2 x 32GB) 288-Pin PC RAM DDR5 6000, WD NVMe 2Tb x 1, Sabrent NVMe 2Tb x 1, RTX 4090 FE, Corsair RM1000W PSU, Win11 Home, LG Ultra Curved Gsync Ultimate 3440x1440, Phanteks Enthoo Pro Case, TCA Boeing Edition Yoke & TQ, Cessna Trim Wheel, RTSS Framerate Limiter w/ Front Edge Sync. What's the next to get for Australia?NoelNoel,AU Gold is heartbreakingly beautiful. The blue water, white sandy beaches, incredibly detailed airports. My favorite spot to fly in the world. Stephen
March 27, 201016 yr Exactly my feeling. I actually find flying in unfamiliar territory much more exciting - sort if like being on some flying vacation :(Same here. I don't live where I do because it's the best place to fly an airplane. If you have the chance, why not pick a scenic, interesting area instead... Unless you happen to live in an unusually beautiful place of course. I've done the TileProxy "Wow I can see my house!" thing already...I'm not terribly interested in the big commercial airports, since I never fly from them... and the frame rate over cities is bad enough as it is :(But the smaller fields out in the countryside and the expansion of the PNW area in all three directions is very exciting news. Hopefully they will not churn them out too quickly but instead spend some time to make sure they're as detailed and accurate as possible, and give my credit card time to recover :( -
March 27, 201016 yr I'd imagin S. California has much in common with Australia. Is that up for consideration?
March 27, 201016 yr I'd imagin S. California has much in common with Australia. Is that up for consideration? That is a great point Frank, and don't know the answer. We lived in California for awile and loved the beaches, so you are right. Stephen
