February 11, 201115 yr I have had TrackIR for a number of years now but I never became much of a fan - can't be used in a room with extraneousness light sources, the way the display moves in response to head movements is unrealistic and visually disorientating, getting it to function as specified is a pain. Each to his own I suppose but I have never understood why this product has such a fan base. Now with EZDOK I find I don't need TrackIR to move my POV around the VC.Bruceb Bruce Bartlett Frodo: "I wish none of this had happened." Gandalf: "So do all who live to see such times, but that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us."
February 11, 201115 yr Hmmm, I'd say the movement is fairly realistic, within reason of course. We don't have a 360 degree cockpit around us so the software has to improvise. The area it assists me most is in the traffic pattern. The areas it doesn't do much is IMC flight, I'll sometimes pause the camera so I can focus on my scan. The key to TIR5 is the profile. I've used a profile titled "Seth - Flight," found in their support forums. It's not overly sensitive but it responds quickly and feels right to me. | My Liveries | FAA ZMP | PPL ASEL | | Windows 11 | MSI Z690 Tomahawk | 12700K 4.7GHz | MSI RTX 4080 | 64GB 6000 MHz DDR5 | 500GB Samsung 860 Evo SSD | 2x 2TB Samsung 970 Evo M.2 | EVGA 850W Gold | Corsair 5000X | HP G2 (VR) / LG 27" 1440p |

February 11, 201115 yr The best is to have Trackir and Triple Head to Go. Use Trackir on the ground, primary for taxi. Triple head to go when in the air. You don't need three full size wide screen monitors. I have a wide screen in the middle and two (one each side of the middle) smaller monitors that I purchased off ebay. IMHO, perfect setup.Regards,Ed
February 11, 201115 yr Good thing too, as some a/c developers are not including a 2d panel with their designs. I remember a 2-3 years ago the arguments that took place between pro 2d panel folks and pro VC folks. Some of the threads were really heated. Bob Officially retired
February 11, 201115 yr Couldn't fly without TrackIR myself. Gives me freedom of movement to look around and keep my eyes where I need them without a key click our button push. Very useful when you are busy with the little things like landing. - Aaron
February 12, 201115 yr The secret to using TrackIR if it makes you woozy or just doesn't feel right initially is to enter into the environment SLOWLY.If you've put yours away because you didn't like the feeling it gave you, disorienting etc, try the following:Set it up as you normally would, and then disable all but the axis that lets you look left and right.Turn the thing off with the hotkey until you're in the air then once established, bring it in and concentrate keeping the view stable, then slowly turn your head just a few degrees left and right to sweep the instrument panel. Get used to just the limited sweep of view, and as soon as you don't feel 100% comfortable use the view centre key and then the hotkey to disable until you're feeling comfortable again.Gradually get used to sweeping left and right and feeling comfortable with the concept, then do some circuits, and use a combination of using TrackIR as you enter each leg to look where you will be going and switching it to disable in between.I will gladly bet any serious simmer a week's pay, no matter how dogmatic they be, by following a graduated introduction to TrackIR that lets them get used to the look and feel, that once used to it they would no more go back to a hat switch than revert to nappies or a Commodore 64.
February 12, 201115 yr I'd just like to mention a little project that gives TrackIR-like functionality from a regular webcam - no IR reflectors, LEDs, special hat or otherwise required:-http://facetracknoir.sourceforge.net/home/default.htmIt is very much being actively developed at the moment, and I've been helping out especially with the filtering side of things. It's coming on leaps and bounds so I recommend checking it out.Kind regardsDaveHi Dave,I tried out the software you are helping to develop and it is great! I think that it does a remarkable job. There are a few things that need ironing out, but not sure if they are issues some tuning of the setting won't fix.So far my biggest annoyance is that it is a little jittery when I try to hold my head still. normally not a huge issue, but when I'm trying to set the FCU from the captain's chair and clicking the buttons, it gets tedious, and it tests my patience a little because the camera is wiggling around.I really like the progress that you all have made. Keep it up. I'll help you out as I'm able :) ...and when I can figure out my problem on Paypal :( Derek RogersPC Specs: Intel i7-4790K 4.6GHz : 16GB RAM : GTX 970 4GB

I'm working on something that will reduce the unwanted movement when the software detects you are looking steadily at something, but I don't know when this (or any of my other work) will make it into an actual FacetrackNoIR update.Kind regardsDave

February 12, 201115 yr Thanks for your work on the filters. Looking forward to the next release.Hopefully there's a "pause" functionality included, that lock the current view angle. In the build I have (which is not quite the latest I think) there is an option to assign a hotkey to starting/stopping the tracking. There is an option also to determine whether the view should center, or remain where it is when stopped. No doubt Wim will let us know when the new build is available, I know he's been extremely busy working on it this last week.Kind regardsDave

February 12, 201115 yr Track IR 5 must be pretty cool with all the tilting and moving forward axis that it does. Personally I still have a TrackIR 2 that does just the yaw and pitch movements, but combined with Ezca camera addon it is an awesome upgrade to FSX VC flying.I find binding the TrackIR center view key to the same key that centers my VC view very helpful. And yeah, the keeping your head still to focus on say a gauge or switch... Takes some getting used to. Setting TrackIR sensitivity down low can really help, too.Curious though, about this Webcam tracking software... How is it response-time/latency wise?-Jonathan

How is it response-time/latency wise?-JonathanI just received the version 5 alpha release and can tell you, the response time/latency is very good. THe SimConnect interface is reworked in this version, making very fluid head movements possible. Also it is now possible to pauze the software while keeping the view in it's last position; excellent for findling with small VC buttons. Lennart
February 17, 201115 yr When I used trackir with a cap I went from utter frustration to sheer joy and back again. All the sudden I would be staring into the roof of the plane or being turned upside down. With the track clip pro I must say it iis just perfect and it hasn't misbehaved a single time. I always fly with it whether I'm in a 152 or a 747! Krister LindénEFMA, Finland------------------
