February 22, 201115 yr I currently own a Core i7 2600K system @ 3.4 GHz & TurboBoost enabled with 8 GB of RAM, a GTX 570, as well as Windows 7 64-bit. I am also an owner of the 747-8i, however, I'm just wondering how the PMDG 737 NGX will perform on a system similar to mine? I also run GEX/UTX/REX as well as FS Genesis. I know that the 737 NGX is a new plane, versus the 747-8i I was told is based on the 747-400X, which I was told was ported from FS2004, not as a new plane.I asked earlier in the NG forums, but I read today that any questions about the NGX should be put here instead. February 22, 201115 yr Hi Jeff,To save you a bunch of critisizm, I may suggest using the search feature here on the forum. As this question has been asked a ton of times. This will save you from some heavy rousing down the road. :( Try to allways do a search before asking a question here. As an aside, The NGX is (according to PMDG) supposed to perform about the same as the MD11. (Caveat) This may change however as the NGX is still not yet compleated, and has yet to enter the Beta phase. February 22, 201115 yr Overclock that 2600K to 4.5ghz and beyond! If you're not planning on overclocking, then you could have saved money by getting the base 2600 version. David Garrison

February 23, 201115 yr Commercial Member Considering the fact that there is not a better system you can buy than what you're running I suspect you'll be able to run it just fine. Overclock the CPU though as others have said. Ryan MaziarzFor fastest support, please submit a ticket at http://support.precisionmanuals.com
February 23, 201115 yr If you do decide to overclock, be sure to invest 50 dollars in a good aftermarket air cooler for your CPU. You should be able to reach 4.5 GHz without too much fuss. But you have to watch out that you don't overheat your system. I think most on this forum would agree that you have gotten yourself a very nice system! Sander Rutte
February 23, 201115 yr FSX is quite possibly the worst designed and worst coded application for windows I have ever used. It is painfully bad. Its almost as if the ACES team spent the majority of their time creating a simulator that would be as performance unfriendly as possible. Getting a Sandy Bridge chip might help a lot, but nothing can fix the garbage that is FSX...And yet I use it all the time.

April 7, 201115 yr What fps do you get with the PMDG 747-8i when taxing at an add-on airport?Ive got a similar system to the OPer. At YBBN orbx with the 747-400 pmdg, I get around 18-20fps. I noticed that from 3.4ghz, to 4.5ghz, I only gained around 6fps....Is this normal? Am I not doing something right?? Cameron Lett
April 7, 201115 yr Pfffff. Garbage is it? http://fullterrain.com/go.Oh, this is funny...... I can run "EVERY" latest game or graphic application "SMOOTHLY" with my current PC configuration. I get constant 60-80 FPS in DX11 at high res in every context.BUT..... FSX can't run DECENT even at 25-30 FPS.... What?? Is there something wrong? Yes!Come on guys, I love FSX because is the only "up to date" flight sim, but please let say the truth! It's the worst programmed "engine"...... It's uselessly "heavy" and poorly performant. I agree totally with Kylan, and I think every serious programmer would agree that ACES made a bad work.Anyway, at the moment it's the only thing we have to enjoy our flights, so I really hope that MS Flight will be a better sim. April 7, 201115 yr Yes FSX is coded differently. It is very attached to the MHZ then threads or cores. The thinking at the time that it came out (Pentium 4 Athlon 64 era) was that clock speeds were only going to get faster as they had done in the past. Well sadly short of OC the fastest chips are only 300Mhz over what they were at that time. Thats why SB is so epic cause the high clock speeds you can reach with it.I run REX 2 and the 747, MD-11 fine on my OCs Phenom II X4 965 @ 3.8 which is a two year old budget architecture so you will be fine I am sure. I run an antique rig with all the stuff in my sig and it performs pretty damn well, although my computer is basically only for FSX and a minimal amout of stuff is installed on it. It's funny because I helped a fellow the other day using Crossloop and when I saw the way his cfg was setup as well as his addons, the first thing I though was no wonder a lot of people can't run FSX well, the people who struggle most likely dont have it setup correctly, although they will never admit it, its easier to just blame the software.Hopefully Flight will work out better for you, or you could always go back to FS9 where you can get 100 FPS in any situtation.Sean Campbell Avsim Board of Directors | Avsim Forums Moderator
