August 1, 201114 yr Guys I just hope with the hype about this machine and the amount of people who have said:' I will get this machine the day it comes out 'that the servers will be able to handle the amount of downloads and the speed. Would be a shame to sit there for hours having to download 540 megs of data. If you have a prob with the amount of servers needed talk to IBM and ask for virtual servers in the cloud. They are not expensive actually they are quite cheap and they are fantastic. Maybe just as good as the 737NGX from PMDG. Thx Ian I CAN'T WAIT !!!!! Ian C. August 1, 201114 yr Don't worry, PMDG is well prepared for that "event", but indeed this will be one crazy day for servers and in case of any troubles people should remain calm and wait for their turn, and we know that patience is as strong as it used to be here :PRegards,
August 1, 201114 yr Virgin Australia has a fleet of 700WL and 800WL, with a mix of engine ratings. They are removing most of the 700WLs (except the two actually owned by Virgin) and acquiring more 800WLs and some 800SFPs. Qantas operates the 400 and 800WL. If so do you know the Regos for them?
August 1, 201114 yr I don't think any of the 800SFPs have been delivered yet. DZ David Zhong New video every Thursday: Aircraft Lighting - Boeing 777
August 1, 201114 yr PMDG could set up a torrent tracker. Torrent sites have given them a lot of grief, i believe, but when you have hundreds of people trying to download considerable amounts of data from your site, there's nothing like a torrent. Instead of having everyone download form the server, everybody will just share the data. The more people download it, the faster the download goes. Cristi Neagu

That's also how I downloaded DCS as well as many other simulator products. Legally I mean.
August 1, 201114 yr Yes, but that would "kill" the extended download service, wouldn't it? Also, there's always a risk that you will download file infected by spyware, which instead of activating will send your purchase data to a cracker, and how would you like it? Regards,
August 1, 201114 yr Yes, but that would "kill" the extended download service, wouldn't it? It would ruin the argument that extended download service costs exist due to bandwidth concerns. In essence, it would do away with the need for it, especially if torrent-style downloading was the norm. BUT, as you know, if a torrent download needs to be re-seeded, the "extended download" service might still need to exist to support that... Also, there's always a risk that you will download file infected by spyware, which instead of activating will send your purchase data to a cracker, and how would you like it? That'd be my bigger concern, but as long as the torrent seed is fully controlled and monitored by PMDG, the hash codes and integrity of the original files can be reasonably assured. Once any product goes up for download sale, the master download file is usually put online near instantly... outfits like PMDG, Flight1, and others place their security eggs into whatever activation schemes they use "within" the files, not necessarily with the file download process itself. In addition, you'd be asking your customers to act as hosts for the files too - although the flightsim community is often very helpful to each other, it might be a stretch to ask or require folks to keep their copy up and available online for several days or weeks. Any server overloading will be a short-term situation, not worthy of investing in new torrent-style shared bandwidth distribution tools today... after the first few days, I have serious doubts that the servers will be overly taxed. If they are, PMDG is either going to be really happy, or they've sorely under prepared their bandwidth needs..(*if it came to it, I'd wager on the former and not the latter). It IS a great distribution method, but not perfectly suited for all commercial applications. -Greg
August 1, 201114 yr Very nice to here that. Can you tell us what will system requirements be for NGs? I may need to consider either to buy NG or new PC first. Thank you. August 1, 201114 yr There's always a risk that you will download file infected by spyware, which instead of activating will send your purchase data to a cracker, and how would you like it? You cannot modify a file without changing its checksum. And since the whole torrent concept relies on that, a torrent client would not accept data that doesn't fit the checksum. In addition, you'd be asking your customers to act as hosts for the files too - although the flightsim community is often very helpful to each other, it might be a stretch to ask or require folks to keep their copy up and available online for several days or weeks. But to go to all that trouble for just 2-3 days of downloading mayhem... not really worth it. Cristi Neagu
