"Shade" for FSX

Featured Replies

Hi guys, I bought Shade for FSX because I loved the pictures that you are posting on this topic. And also to give more realistic environment to FSX. But I have a problem. I don't know how to use because it is a little bit confuseSilly.gif . So can anyone post a tutorial how to use this software? It will be very kind from you biggrin.png. Best regards and good flights, Gonçalo Carvalho
There are a lot of easy tutorials starting on page 4 of this thread. That will get you started. Start up Shade-GUI icon first. I use the Day 1 preset and that works great for me no matter when I'm flying but Day 1 equals Pre-dawn1/Predawn2. You can click on the Day 1 thru Day 10 as they equal different times of the day. So, if you're flying at noon, you could select Day 5 - Noon. Click on the Shade icon or select Start Stuff on the bottom tab and you Go Fly. That's a very, very basic startup. The manual actually explains it all very well and I highly recommend reading it while the Shade GUI icon is open. Best regards,Jim

Hey guys Just a headsup that 1.02 is now live on the Flightsimstore Server1.02 change log is as followsAdded the ability to load just light\shadow\fog values from a preset to allow for mixing and matching across different presets Added a much better "Custom" Colour picker to the palette roll outs, this new picker allows you to grab pixel colours anywhere on your current desktop(click hold over the eye dropper icon and release to pick a value)using this will allow you to quickly pick/tweak values when building your own presets you can also use it to grab colours\tones from images of sun rises/sunsets,im sure once you have a play with it you'll see how much better it is than the default windows colour picker in 1.0/1.01More info in the manual on these changesAdded a few more presets (look in the new in 1.02 presets folder) for ppl to try/tweakIm going to get a few small user "how to" videos made and thrown up on youtube later this week,i had intended to get that done this week but the weathers been so nice i spent far to much time tending my chili plants ;) Again thanks for the support you've shown me and each other when using Shade :)Cheersstevesteve

Awesome Steve great job, lot of new presets to, cant wait to see them. Regards, Rich

Thanks for the proposed YouTube-delivered 'How To Do....' Look forward to that.

What a great little program. This SHADE brings out the mountainous terrain and valleys, in a most detailed manner. I find that ENB really detracts away now from what it can produce. SHADE is giving me what I wanted ENB to do in spades. Totally worth the very reasonable asking price! If you don't have it...you are missing out. Try taking a flight out of Tyslos Lake Lodge, and keep your eyes upon the high mountains on your left as you climb out from the end of the lake. This is a favorite place for me within FSX, and applying SHADE injection really brought it closer to 'as real as it gets'. The effect that SHADE causes really stands out and is easy to see for a SHADE/no-SHADE comparison. To the author Gizmo...great little program. Please keep updating it. V1.02 is a great find... When I turn off ENB, all I can say..is "Wow!".... Cheers, Post Edit: I'm flying around the lake on a sunny day today...and the sense of sunlight striking the mountains makes ENB redundant when using SHADE! SHADE totally takes away the cartoonish appearance of FSX and what it does for terrain contrast as well as REX cloud bases is totally approaching life-like in appearance. Bye Bye ENB...hello, SHADE! Gizmo...I am using your HERITAGE setting and have it cloned across all days from Day 1. It looks awesome upon the topography. Totally satisfied. Shade has given me the look upon the terrain that ENB just never could cough up. 10 out of 10, Gizmo! Post Edit 2: If you have a SAMSUNG monitor that has the DYNAMIC CONTRAST feature...run this with SHADE and you will be in topography heaven.... :) The program and this SAMSUNG hardware feature are made for each other! Post Edit 3: I guess this is turning into a personal mini-review...lol...but I am flying with SHADE injection in and around ORBX's PNW and with SHADE in play, actually can not only 'see' the sunlight splashed upon the mountains where it should be (and highlights them), because of the now proper contrast of shadow where the 'FSX sunlight' would not in real life fall upon their faces,....it not only makes you feel as if you sense the 'warmth' of that sunlight upon the mountains/other land features, but now subliminally, there is a true sense of three dimensionality within the sim. I run my LOD in the .cfg at 5.5, and with SHADE, REX, ASE all in the background, FSX now looks totally convincing that I am flying over real-life scenarios....and by adding SHADE to the game-play...brought it all home. What SHADE does in a nutshell folks...it makes SUNLIGHT....LOOK like sunlight (by giving you proper depth SHADOW cues),..and not merely a lighter shade to the terrain graphics! This is what in a nutshell, it does. That alone adds a sense of 3D and depth out to the horizon. Your mind now gets the proper 'cues' as to where you are looking, how FAR out you are looking...and the sense of immersion within that sphere. These things are subtle, folks. Realism doesn't slap you in the face...but must be layered by the app's we buy to enhance the core FSX. The above mentioned and running-in-the-background 3rd Party combo...brings up that sense of realism in motion, to the plate! :) OK....the mini review is finished...and back to flying with sunlight now so real....I 'think' I can feel the warmth of it coming through the cockpit glass.... Thanks Steve....a great addition to the FSX add on market. ENB was a good try...but your 'version' of a contrast and shadow software engine blows it away.... I'm glad you brought it (SHADE) to market. That was the last thing (believable sunlight radiation, through the proper placement of shadow counter-point) I needed to be taken care of to make FSX totally and fully virtual. Most important...to see the full effect of SHADE upon FSX, you need to run your MESH SETTING at full, wide open! To run with a lower MESH setting, you are not getting the full scope of what this product can achieve for visual accuracy and sense of reality. Mitch

Just a question before buy. Someone said Shade automatically starts fsx.exe, but I use the external fps limiter. Is it possible to make Shade first start the limiter which then starts FSX?

Mats Weinberger

Well Said :)The new version automatically injects the textures set and forget it then you launch limiter get the latest version re-download your original purchase.

Shade comes with 2 exe's basically. One is Shade exe. whick will start FSX. The other is Shade NL. NL does not start FSX. It loads shade then waits for you to start FSX. I use it with frame rate limiter this way, no issues at all.

-------------------------------------------------------- Yes, v1.02 lets you fire up FSX as either by the GUI, a burn-and-forget option, or the SHADE_NL that I personally use just before I hit the FPS Limiter batch file.... :) 3 (three) ways to get FSX up and running with SHADE.

Shade for FSX sux a big time. An alternative to this is ENB series!

Could you elaborate on this? Why does it suck? Besides, I would respect if you said "I don't like it", but "sux a big time" is in no way appropriate.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ENBseries doesn't even come close. I had both....ENB is gone from my FSX. ENB tried to emulate the Bloom effect. Mostly it only stripped detail when running. SHADE on the other hand brings out fabulous detail, and rain clouds look absolutely intimidating and authentic. If anybody is using ENB as well as SHADE...you are loosing out 80 percent of what SHADE can do for realism. ENBseries masks out the great detail that SHADE brings on....
