December 3, 201114 yr The reason they don't have issues is because a third party does the XP conversion with their model.... it's not like they are starting from scratch and doing the builds. And it's not badmouthing them or anything... whatever is the most efficient way - that's what I vote for!I don't know who is doing their conversions, but they are a lot of fun to fly. A few days ago I bought their Beechcraft F-33 on Geofa's recommendations and last night I got their excellent Saratoga.
December 3, 201114 yr As far as I'm concerned an artificial scenery that is "as real as it gets" is this: Short of that, it's hype.Re. dynamic computing vs. tables and with my modest but real experience with small airplanes there is only one model that cuts it and it's the Siai by Real Air. X-Plane has also very serious issues with crosswind, which might be a serious problem with dynamic computing. And that's too bad, because this would be a tremendous way to hone very important stick and rudder skills. This seems to remain true with 10 although I need to experiment a little more.I always wonder why inertial platforms are not used to inform flight models. That would be closer to "as real as it gets."This said, I am truly grateful to X-Plane for allowing me to sim on Linux.
December 3, 201114 yr There's always FlightGear, and it won't cost you a dime cause it's open source. Of course it's not as feature rich as commercial sims, and the interface is even more arcane than X-Plane's, but it's free, so you really can't complain.
December 3, 201114 yr Commercial Member Did you take part in the Cirrus SR22G2/G3 ADD-ON ? The flight dynamics on that were awful. No I did not do anything for the Cirrus line of addons from Eaglesoft. Ed Wilson Mindstar AviationMy Playland - I69

December 3, 201114 yr Oh ******* on nice skates... folks you cannot patent or copywrite a phrase as general as this...A trademark is a word, phrase, symbol or design, or a combination of words, phrases, symbols or designs, that identifies and distinguishes the source of the goods of one party from those of others.A trip to the grocery store or Wal-Mart or any other 10 billion places will find you this phrase, "As real as it gets..." in use on so many different types of products you could't possibly count them all...Heck, a quick Google search and I found it used on everything from beauty aids, hair extensions to sex toys... A common mistake that people make when trying to design something completely foolproof is to underestimate the ingenuity of complete fools. - Douglas Adams, The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy
December 3, 201114 yr Heck, a quick Google search and I found it used on everything from beauty aids, hair extensions to sex toys... Thanks for the heads up. Going to google right now for some, err, hair extensions.

December 3, 201114 yr Author Oh ******* on nice skates... folks you cannot patent or copywrite a phrase as general as this...A trademark is a word, phrase, symbol or design, or a combination of words, phrases, symbols or designs, that identifies and distinguishes the source of the goods of one party from those of others.A trip to the grocery store or Wal-Mart or any other 10 billion places will find you this phrase, "As real as it gets..." in use on so many different types of products you could't possibly count them all...Heck, a quick Google search and I found it used on everything from beauty aids, hair extensions to sex toys... Ok you missed the point .. these are the only two heads up competing flight sims products and one decides to use the others tagline.
December 3, 201114 yr Yes thats a fact. Thats not illegal, nevertheles you may find that odd , strange , slilly and you might even dislike it. I must say I do not care , I like both sims and when they choose to use the same tagline thousends of other products are using since commerce exits I cannot say they are original the both of them. Making fuzz about the fact XP uses the same phrase Microsoft used in 1998 ???????? We not only discuss ( or better said, defend like watch-dogs ) our favorite sims , no we even start quarreling about the taglines. Thats pathetic!Really guys sometimes this is just a "kindergarten".Please let`s grow up a bit. Leen
December 3, 201114 yr No biggy to me... to be honest. I'm proud of what addons I did participate in.... the tag is sorta a 'badge'. LOL In my experience, pride is very much "a biggie" to a man and can cause him to do and say things they wouldn't normally do.With regards to the C90....yes, it's not like the real thing because I get paid to crank out approximations that are "non-offensive" to the masses and I had to do about four of those in a year. I really don't care what one ex-msfs payware developer thinks about it because for every Ed, I have 500 "non-Eds" that do like it and pay my salary and that's what this is...a business and the C90 handles adequate enough. The C90 is not payware, it's not going to get that kind of love as I'm not going to get that kind of return. You can rest easy Ed, xplane isn't any better for modeling existing flight models than FSX. It is better at modeling non-existing flight models though and it does present the flight model to the user in a more fluid fashion (enough people seem to say so). If nothing else also, I can (and probably will) improve the C90 and you can get that update automatically via xplane's updater system at the click of a button. ...AND you can even improve it yourself, submit it to me for compatibility checks and if it's better, I will submit it to be redistributed to everybody and you can be a constructive part of the xplane community. Also, The whole "as real as it gets thing" is tongue in cheek...a sly slap no different than coke/pepsi or microsoft/apple or att/verizon. Anybody who thinks otherwise has been duly sucked in.
December 3, 201114 yr If you see this, Tom, may I ask when is the next update due? I have a nasty framerate issue that makes the current demo unplayable for me.Edit: Never mind. Something must have gotten whacked in one of my preference files because deleting them and letting X-Plane recreate them seems to have helped.
December 3, 201114 yr It's not even a secret. We all know who is doing the Carenado X-Plane stuff. Dan also still needs to get paid - and that obviously works, otherwise they would have stopped. So what is the issue with Carenado? I was considering buying their 172 since it has gotten nothing but glowing reviews.
December 3, 201114 yr This is confusing. If X Plane is so unstable, can break a product with an update (a myth) and the flight models so inferior, how are the payware developers making a living out of it?Donations?Truth is, X Plane is stable. You are just so accustomed to making add ons for FSX, that it makes no financial sense for you to make add ons for X Plane because you would have to learn to make flight models all over again.I have a concern about this. I bought the Carenado f33 about 10 days ago when I read that Xplane 9 aircraft would be compatible with xp 10. However, right now there are bizarre prop animations and the beacon lights are about 2ft. Above the wing. Not terrible-but was is the typical timeline for updates? In the past I bought some Xplane 8 aircraft that stated the same-then were never really updated for 9 as promised and very often updates for 9 would cause other troubles. One of my concerns is the reality xp gps-I have seen no news about updates for it and it doesn't work at all in 10. I really can't live without this add in!Now I know the answers to these problems are with the 3rd party manufacturers themselves-however for the consumer this causes angst.... Geofa WANTED DEAD OR ALIVE-the best Flight Sim!
