February 10, 201214 yr I just un-installed the beta for flight. I spent enough time with it. Now its back to FSX for me. Ill keep an eye on flight, and may download the free version at some point , just to fool around with it. Im going to give Xplane a shot too.I do think flight will bring in some new blood and that will be a good thing. Im very happy with how FSX runs with all my addons, so even if nothing new comes out, Im good for at least a nother 5 years with what I have. I may pick up some Carenado planes for Xplane and play around with that too. Lots to do.Rob Edited February 10, 201214 yr by Comanche
February 10, 201214 yr Author I know it's wishful thinking at this point, but maybe in a few years X-Plane can be running on a Mac Platform with a lot of the great add-on we know today. PMDG is going to make an XP10 version of one of their products to test the waters. It seems that Mac don't deal with the constant security patches MS is always pushing. February 10, 201214 yr Very true. It is sad that they have totally turned their backs on us just for the sake of money. I really hope to see XP10 take off in the next few years.Really though? I mean MS is in the business to make money... DLC has worked so well starting off with Blizzard with the WoW series, and has worked its way down the pipeline. The fact that MS is using DLC is simply smart. Again, the "hard core" simmers like us are only a tiny minority of their total sales volume... | My Liveries | FAA ZMP | PPL ASEL | | Windows 11 | MSI Z690 Tomahawk | 12700K 4.7GHz | MSI RTX 4080 | 64GB 6000 MHz DDR5 | 500GB Samsung 860 Evo SSD | 2x 2TB Samsung 970 Evo M.2 | EVGA 850W Gold | Corsair 5000X | HP G2 (VR) / LG 27" 1440p |

February 10, 201214 yr The hardcore addon market is actually quite large.....Relative to what? Relative to people who buy addons for FSX? Then yeah... Relative to total sales from FSX retail boxes.... tiny.. | My Liveries | FAA ZMP | PPL ASEL | | Windows 11 | MSI Z690 Tomahawk | 12700K 4.7GHz | MSI RTX 4080 | 64GB 6000 MHz DDR5 | 500GB Samsung 860 Evo SSD | 2x 2TB Samsung 970 Evo M.2 | EVGA 850W Gold | Corsair 5000X | HP G2 (VR) / LG 27" 1440p |
February 10, 201214 yr The hardcore addon market is actually quite large.....I wouldn't quite call it large, I would call it tiny.Make a game for Xbox, PSP or Wii that catches on and you are talking millions of copies.Compare that with a very popular FSX addon ... if that would sell over 250000 copies I wouldbe flabbergasted.Call me a pessimist, but check the members of a well known and well reccommended addon. How long has that plane been for sale(By my calculations >6 years), and how many registered users are there ?Let's be optimistic and say half of the purchasers did not register. How many copies would that be ?Less then eightythousand, and that is for BOTH versions so FS9 ánd FSX.Now realize there's 7 billion people on earth.Suddenly, eightythousand people buying means tiny indeed. February 10, 201214 yr Eighty thousand people seems very large in my terms of size. It is all about relativity. That is not the point I'm trying to make.I am simply explaining that while Eighty thousand people are a lot when youhave to buy a bagel for each of them they are nothing when it comes to a games market, especially when it is the global market. The share of flightsimrelated products in the complete entertainmentsoftware isprobably something like 0.000000000000000000000034 percent if that. There is more money to be made with a well thought out RPG in one yearthen one well known flightsimpublisher will make in it's entire existencemarketing 20 different well built planes.Oh yes, while I do have a nice Flight1 banner as a signature this is my opinionand has nothing to do with them.It is based on what I deduce from watching various support and the Avsim forums and constantly running into thesame faces.
February 10, 201214 yr +100That was the final straw for me. Microsoft just said officially said that serious users of the sim are a thing of the past and the company officially fliped us off. I personally will not down load this crap even for the laughs. I hope at some point Tom and the crew will pull the plug on the "Flight" forum. This site supports sims not golden hoops and coins. FSX does the job just fine and Please....everyone try to support Prepar3D both in $ and kind words. They are our last and only hope to have this great Hobby continue into the future. And befou you even start...no I do not work for or have any connection to LM!!!!!Will you guys ever stop whining about this. Boo! Hoo! The big corporation doesn't care about us. You think LM is going to. They have stated explicitly they are a commercial product period. They don't care about you or the enthusiast market. FLIGHT is what it is. The writing was on the wall when ACES was dissolved. This is a niche market. Get over it.
February 10, 201214 yr We have to accept the fact that MS is out of the hardcore FS business for good. Whether Flight is successful or fails won't change anything. If it is successful, it will verify their business model, and if it fails, they'll drop it for good. I think the only way MS may reconsider, is if Bill Gates himself came back. If it was true his influence kept it going all these years, he may put pressure to bring it back, that though is a huge long shot - like a gazillion to one! February 10, 201214 yr Great link for the interview, now I know for sure that I will NEVER be switching to "Flight" .. .. ..G Gary Davies aka "Gazzareth" Simming since 747 on the Acorn Electron
February 10, 201214 yr Commercial Member I'm personally sticking to FSX aswell. With addons like Orbx on the market who needs Flight anyways? Repaint Requests - Get your OWN custom repaint
February 10, 201214 yr What happens when people download the game for free and then realize that its only cool to play for the first couple of hours? FAA: ATP-ME, 737 CA, enough time in the 757/767 to be dangerous 🤠 Matt Kubanda, 7950X3D, 64GB RAM, RTX 5090@4k, MSFS 2024
February 10, 201214 yr According to the article, it is clear that flight is not a sim but a game like Wii resort (there is an airplane to fly in this game too...). No need for a subforum here IMHO. My gallery: http://s1075.photobucket.com/albums/w430/yankeegolf/
