Why I'm sticking with FSX for the long term

Featured Replies

Unless, something drastic happens, it looks like FSX will be the last flight simulator made by Microsoft. After reading the description of Flight in this article, I have no interest in purchaisng it.http://seattletimes....html?cmpid=2628I'm happy to have the right computer and great add-ons of all types that will make FSX enjoyable for a long time to come.Luis Linares

Yep, absolutely not interested in Flight at the moment. Developers like Hifi Simulations, Flight1, ORBX, FSDT, FlyTampa, Flightbeam, PMDG, A2A, LevelD, Flightsimlabs, and many others make FSX quite an awesome experience.

"The bet we've made is that to the non-hardcore simmer, flying the whole world isn't as interesting when there's nothing really interesting to see or do."Huh ?

It will be interesting to see if the 20 million folks they envision will flock to the new sim. I really doubt it. My, now adult kids play Xbox stuff. They like to shoot, kill, blow things up. If not blowing something up they race cars like hell, and love to play hockey. Flying will never ever make the list period.I just spent some money to upgrade my Hawaiian experience but purchase of FSDreamTeam Hawaiian airports. I complimented my scenery with Orbx objects, peopleflow, this along with other upgrades I have a fantastic Hawaiian experience.I am into technical flying, like the real thing.I will get the "free" version but I can't envision ever paying a monthly fee, buying bits and pieces of the world, buying new planes one at a time just to get a core compliment....I guess time will tell.I have the "Rise of Flight", I do not pay anything more and do not buy additional planes, I use the core program and that is it.Nuff said, Flight is already dead in the water for me.

+100That was the final straw for me. Microsoft just said officially said that serious users of the sim are a thing of the past and the company officially fliped us off. I personally will not down load this crap even for the laughs. I hope at some point Tom and the crew will pull the plug on the "Flight" forum. This site supports sims not golden hoops and coins. FSX does the job just fine and Please....everyone try to support Prepar3D both in $ and kind words. They are our last and only hope to have this great Hobby continue into the future. And befou you even start...no I do not work for or have any connection to LM!!!!!

Wait until Intel releases their next processor after Ivy Bridge....then FSX will really sail!

For anyone who hasn't read this, Robert Randazzo provides great insight into Flihgt's anti- add-on attitude (unless they get a piece of the pie):http://forum.avsim.net/topic/358874-some-thoughts-on-flight/

Even though realtime, for me FSX is more of a "thinking man's" game (no offense to the ladies). Yes there are many FS situations that require full attention and quick reactions, but not to the degree of an Xbox "shoot-em-up" title. For example, I'm not sure the Xbox generation understands why flying on autopilot for more than a minute could be enjoyable (I'm not sure why I do either, but I do!). Perhaps Combat FS is the middle ground.

I not. :( Sometimes a bit of Axis&Allies when I´m bored of flying. But mostl of the time I´m airbrone. And yes, I also plan with FSX the next time.

BTW - I have no issue with Xbox nor the games of all descriptions. I have has my moments shooting stuff as well. I do flight sim because, well, its a simulation game.I also use autopilot, but only long enought to take a pee or get a coffee....lol. Otherwise I like to fly, fly, fly.

I said it before, MS should have had shoot them up in FSX from the beginning to appeal the youngsters. Those who dont want do be shot down, just tick a checkbox, and disable the functionality.

Same here!!In a funny sort of way I am relieved that Flight turned out how it did. Now I don't need to worry about repurchasing addons for the new platform, eliminates the uncertainty for the consumers wondering if they should wait for the next platform before purchasing addons, etc. Now we know what we will be faced with for the next X amount of years, either FS9, FSX, P3D, or X-Plane, so pick your poision, load up addons and enjoy it for the long haul.I didn't read the article, but it's sad to see that Flight ended up going down the road it did. Personally I wouldn't really mind buying only parts of the world that I need or fly in most of the time, but the fact that there wont be any PMDG, FSDT, FlyTampa, etc, means that without my favorite addons there's no point in even trying the free demo, aside from the fact that I don't even fly in Hawaii in FSX or own any scenery for that area.It will certainly be interesting to see if Flight becomes a success or ends up being a complete failure. Maybe MS underestimated the amount of people who are mid to harcore simmers and wont even bother trying Flight. I know I wont even waste my time trying the demo since its lacking the type of a/c I like to fly (airliners) and an area I dont care for (Hawaii). Given that, there's no need for me to even download. I'll just continue to enjoy what I have for the foreseeable future until someone makes something better than Flight and 3PD's can develope for it.

Very true. It is sad that they have totally turned their backs on us just for the sake of money. I really hope to see XP10 take off in the next few years.

I won't dignify it with a download either, I think this blunder will open the door toXPlane, I'm going to dabble with that at the same time I enjoy FSX for now. If theycan overcome some of the current limitations and draw in the right co-developersit could be come a VERY nice future platform. Certainly will be interesting...
