I though this topic would be more than just an opener for a "Dear John" OP.I just want to say I've been deprived of my lunchtime diversion...oh well...it was entertaining reading while it lasted.

Some folks need to fly more and blather less....a LOT less.

How else would I spend my time on long flights in sim on rainy days?! :unknw: Heck, sometimes I find these forums more addictive than simming!Some topics bring out the worse in members in this community. I'm glad it was shut down for now. Stave off the smart alecs that haven't even tried the sim yet.

Yeah, kind of like looking down at your black and blue thumb, missing its thumbnail, and deciding that hitting it with an 18 ounce hammer a day ago was entertaining... or, like your first divorce... or your first kidney stone... er ugh, well, you get the idea..

Well, all I can say is thank you Tom! Actually, while you're in Stalinist Purge mode, can I suggest a couple of other AVSIM forums suitable for wiping out? No? Oh well, never mind.... ^_^Ian

I don't know what broke the camel's back in this case, but closing the forum until the 29th AND deleting all the posts at that time seems rather drastic and dramatic to me. In fact, it will rewrite the history of how Flight was anticipated and debated at AVSIM, the only forum in fact where such a debate took place. The rest of the forums that I know of are pretty much dead, no one cares one way or another.I know it will be far less work for the admins until the 29th, but I just wanted to register my opinion, however unpopular it may be.

Oldbear: I am afraid you got it wrong; stalinistic mode was everybody bashing a product most had never seen. :Loser: But then again, Stalin was also known for taking some harsh measures,

I'm sorry you saw it in those terms. Fortunately I was able to watch from a safe distance. BTW...good call, for nothing of any value was being accomplished.

You make a very valid point. We can archive those messages in to a subforum of the FLIGHT forum and make it read only. Good thinking Attila!

Though we have said it a million times, this forum is not a democracy and members do not have unfettered "freedom of speach", we do try to allow as much as we can in the way of debate, dialog, etc. etc. We try to maintain a balance and usually it works out. This time internal staff discussions led to the decision to shut it down because it became infantile, sophmoric and downright displeasing to watch.We will get brickbats from both sides and I am sure snide comments will be made in other forums about it, and drama queens like the OP, but with as many members as we have, and the prospect of introducing the future simmers to this community's vision of simulation, it became too much.

I think it was a good decision closing the forum for now and co-incidentally was thinking on the way into work this morning that it might be a good idea to do that.Thanks.

I certainly agree that a reset was required. And I do not believe that anything of redeeming valuewould be lost by nuking he content.On the 29th, folks can download Flight, and I predict that we'll get all the feedback we could everask for at that time, but based on the actual product, rather than on a mix of speculation and NDA violations.

In my opinion the forum should have been closed when the personal attacks on Joshua Howard of Microsoft began. Given that they were allowed to run, if I were Microsoft I wouldn't even give the time of day to AVSIM.

Excellent choice to shut it down as I kept finding myself reading the yimmer-yammering back and forth and yelling at my kids to knock it off and then realizing it wan't them.Good call.Ian.
