May 11, 201214 yr I can't post a link as it was on the beta forum. Few people here would have access to that. I can give the pertinent info though: It was one of the beta testers, not a developer, who posted the estimate. It's based on the fact that various DLC has been released on the last Wednesday of the month. The next DLC release slot is May 30, and we know there's one more warbird, almost certainly without a cockpit, that will take up that slot. The next slot is June 27, and that's a likely release date for Alaska. The Spring release information was removed from the Alaska announcement long ago. We're still on Mr. Howard's announced schedule of 3 to 4 new areas per year, with Alaska coming 4 months after the release of Flight. Hook Larry Hookins Oh! May 11, 201214 yr Some people including me are starting to feel like that MS's devs are developing the world instead of just Alaska. The removal of "Spring" from the release date suggests that they cannot comply with the schedule, or there is not enough attraction to continue in the path that they have taken. As it stands now, there is no explanation to why. If they decide to release the whole world, there are many positives. One is that they do not need to worry about scenery anymore and focus on planes, thus giving us VC planes. It also gives us more options to where to fly with options of what to do. For example, there are more missions and aerocaches, which gives more attraction. With the whole world released, there will be more planes for us as each part of scenery adds a free plane. Just be patient. What they are doing we all don't know. But it is hard not to criticize MS for planning a schedule that is tight. May 11, 201214 yr In the SW industry, you quickly learn that you release stuff when it's done, not on some date set long in advance. Software development is a very unpredictable process, and software development planning is a black art!
May 11, 201214 yr you release stuff when it's done, not on some date set long in advance. We can only wish. The most frightening thing I ever heard was a manager telling a programmer who was doing some last minute conversion work, "We're shipping it Wednesday. Have it ready." I'll leave it to the reader to determine all the possible consequences of something like this. Hook Larry Hookins Oh! I kind of doubt they are working on the whole world as that would require a lot of work unless they lowered their quality level. They found that the land class data they had used for FSX was not the greatest. I do not know if there is better data out there now. I would like them to release the whole world, as I can deal with the bad land class data. I doubt they would do a high quality version of my area anyways.
May 12, 201214 yr Uh, what? MS is about to release the whole world because just doing Alaska was too hard to keep to the schedule? Funny!
May 12, 201214 yr The power of Oleg is strong in this one, BE SURE! Lol, as a long time fan of the IL2 series, I know exactly what you are talking about! Don B

On the other tentacle though, there are times when the Project Lead (or senior management) has determined that the dev process has reached a point of diminishing returns, in other words the product needs to be shipped now, and any remaining bugs be sorted out in the nearly inevitable patch... :Nerd: Fr. Yes, but making whole world in better quality than what was already seen in FSX is huge task to do, I think that Flight would be already too outdated when that would be released.

May 14, 201214 yr Could we assume Alaska will be released on 5/30 if we do not see a Airplane Teaser in the next 10 days?
May 14, 201214 yr It's unlikely they will immediately go back to Hawaii-themed DLC after Alaska comes out, so expect the final Hawaii warbird to come first. They have given a general teaser for "the last warbird" already, though nothing which would let us pin down exactly what it is. After Alaska, I expect several months of aircraft associated with Alaska, possibly mixed with some having no particular associations.
