We are now well into spring..... Alaska?

Featured Replies

Too bad Microsoft. I am bored now on waiting for Alaska, getting not a peep of feedback from you! Is it too difficult to post the release date?

Finally spring arrived here in the Alps, the weather is getting better and better, so that I can continuing gliding tomorrow in RL. I will come back again to Flight maybe in September when the summer has ended. Till then a lot will be on sale at Steam, if Flight is still alive. And dont dare to release any plane without VC anymore, you are not only disapoinr your customers you fool them!

Have a great summer, whatever you do. :-(

I share your view and approach. ( Except that in my country the summer ends on middle October )

Well said mate.

cheers

Two weeks from a week ago, as in the earlier posts in this thread, or is it, as I suspect, a rolling two weeks, as in a week from whenever...? ; )

Rolling dates has been great for us. :Just Kidding:

So far all but the base game has been released on the 27th (So shows the Marketplace)

Probably we should expect the ???? plane next Friday , and Alaska sometime before Summer.

MS said Alaska would be released this spring. We've still got more then two months to go before we may start complaining. Until then MS is simply doing what they promised. I expect Alaska will be released one day befor the summer starts. Every day earlier is a bonus.

Obviously I'd rather get Alaska today then tomorrow.

same here. while i can understand they offer scenery every 3 months or so i would have expected that at least in the beginning the offer more variety sooner. sure, just 6 weeks now but nonetheless, some variety would nice already now.

It's a recurring joke on the internet. I think it originated with Blizzard (may have the company wrong) who would invariably answer 'in two weeks' whenever someone asked when the next patch for one of their games was coming out.

The oldest reference to the rolling "two weeks" response that I am aware of is from the movie "Money Pit."

If you have not seen that, you should. It's Tom Hanks back before he became a "dramatic star" and was still doing low-budget comedy films. This one is a classic.

"Yeah, 220 , 221, whatever it takes."

Why MS is so uncertain about the release ?

In whatever business company deadlines and roadmaps are precise and if professionals miss them they are out of the game. This is the business world.

Ah ok I see your answer but I disagree: " they are preparing and fine tuning the product in order to give the customer a top quality service ".

They are simply adding mystery to the game because it lacks other qualities and their marketing dept likes to act like that because the younger guys drool about this behaviour. They go crazy wondering which WWII plane will be the next one.

To be honest I do not like neither Flight quality nor the way it is being sold.

We've noticed. :Batting Eyelashes:

Unfortunately this is the way game companies work with LIVE releases. When they finish the content, they hand it off to LIVE for certification. Once it's through that, I'm fairly certain they have some pull on when it's released, but they can't really pick a date until it's certified ready by the LIVE folks. Content release on LIVE can be decided as short as a day in advance, so anything greater than a week is a pleasant surprise. Apart from content for the really huge releases like [insert shooter here], most of the devs/publishers don't bother mentioning a date until it's through certification to avoid having to push it back if it fails.

No Mark. It depends on the business. For a small supplier then it probably holds true. But I work in a global bank which has any number of projects that are delayed or re-prioritised due to scarce budget or IT resources, or are just victims of 're-prioritisation exercises'. Of course there are roadmaps and project disciplines, but far too many key dates are 'aspirational' and subject to change. I suspect that in a company the size of Microsoft the same holds true and doubt that Flight is their most critical project...

Why MS is so uncertain about the release ?

it was GOING to be released the first day of spring, but the release guy took an arrow to the knee...

If this were true in the flightsim world then just about every FS add-on maker would be out of business by now, either they have a 'done when it's done' release date, or they announce a release date only to delay it later. Airbus and Boeing also don't have a great track record when it comes to sticking to their 'release dates' for that matter.

I suppose it makes an interesting topic for those standing at a bar. However it has already been said rather too many times that spring runs to the 21st June (-ish, I can never remember the exact day). I for one will get out the big guns if I wake up on the 22nd June and it is not waiting for me. Any earlier than that is a bonus.

This is another one of those damned if they do and damned if they don't. If they announce a delivery slot ( a wide one as it happens) then everyone expects delivery on day one of the slot and if it is not there then there is trouble ahead, On the other hand if they do not announce until they are about ready to go then they get damned for not communicating.

I suppose if I were the Flight Team I could arrange for an auto updater to remind us all that Alaska is due out in the Spring - but that will be just as bad I think. Pehaps it would be nice if they would tell us it is still on time (that is by mid June) though :Hmmmph:
