April 23, 201214 yr Full screen with a networked laptop for all the other stuff ala Web Maximus. I don't like the lack of good Vsync in the windowed mode. I can also move the popups that I want full time to my second monitor without going through the "undock window" routine. Joe Brown
April 23, 201214 yr Going back to fullscreen since I picked up a nice laptop off of cragislist for $250!! Now I can go back to running AS2012, EFB, etc on the laptop. Christopher Edwards
December 19, 201312 yr Guess I'll explain one more time how to use windowed mode but in fullscreen to get the benefits from both fullscreen-mode (better performance, vsync? (haven't tried vsync)) windowed mode (instant alt-tab, better multi-screen support) 1) Download and run this file with FSXhttp://dl.dropbox.co...xfullscreen.exe 2) Use FSX in windowed mode (alt enter) 3) Press windows-sign+F11 (be sure focus is on FSX, if not click somewhere on the screen) This removes the borders and the startbar and 'fakes' fullscreen. Even though it's fake, it does give me the same performance(boost) as normal fullscreen, but I can now alt-tab instantly and use FSX on my other monitor while all the other apps (fsbuild, rex, PFE, etc) on my other screen Does anyone have a working link to the fake fullscreen exe? I'm having a problem where the sim will quit when I alt+tab or even alt+enter, and I want to see if this will fix it.
December 19, 201312 yr Always Full Screen mode; always has been; always will be. I honestly could never flight sim in a Windowed Mode, with a visible border, or some desktop visible. It just breaks the immersion for me. The only time I ever go to Windowed Mode, is to access something like OPUS's settings. I never access Chrome / The Internet during a flight; I do all of my planning before launching FSX. If I need something on the Internet during a flight, I use my Smartphone or Netbook.
December 19, 201312 yr with 3 24" monitors FSX is so damn huge that a small border on top is hardly noticeable. I even put my taskbar full-right on the right side monitor, so FSX window covers full-height. Plus, vsync with AMD works flawlessly only in windowed mode. I can see how borders could be a bit disturbing on a single screen, though.
December 20, 201312 yr I run full screen mode simply because I don't need another reminder that I'm actually flying from my desk... DX10: Flying, not Tweaking!
December 20, 201312 yr Does anyone have a working link to the fake fullscreen exe? I'm having a problem where the sim will quit when I alt+tab or even alt+enter, and I want to see if this will fix it. http://library.avsim.net/search.php?SearchTerm=pseudo+full+screen&CatID=root&Go=Search It's not the executable version, it's just the pre-compile script. Download and install autohotkey, then run the script. Should give you the exact same functionality as the exe vatsim s3
December 20, 201312 yr Does anyone have a working link to the fake fullscreen exe? I'm having a problem where the sim will quit when I alt+tab or even alt+enter, and I want to see if this will fix it. Isn't that a script someone wrote for Autohotkey. I think I was using it for awhile. Don't have time to check it out right now but, hopefully, this afternoon after I get home from work.
December 20, 201312 yr Full Screen Mode.. Mostly because if I do Windowed, I can't move panels to my other monitor, they come up black.. In Full Screen they work fine..
December 20, 201312 yr Full screen with a laptop on the side running my EFB and FSInn. This. I run full screen across 3 24" monitors. EFB and ASN run on the lappy next to me along with VatSPY. December 20, 201312 yr Full Screen and it is stable on my (22" monitor). I have my Ipad next to the monitor and use that for checking charts, weather, FlightPlan , or reading Internet. B. December 21, 201312 yr Only fullscreen with networked laptop for the other stuff like charts, aivlasoft efb, weather briefing etc. Intel i9 12900K, Asus ROG Strix Gaming Z690-A Wifi D4, GSkill 32gb, RTX 4090 Regards Chris Kathi
December 21, 201312 yr Windowed Mode exclusively. I mainly do development work and many of the utilities I use only work properly when FSX is windowed. Mike Mann
December 21, 201312 yr Better performance in windowed mode. Really? I get better FPS in full screen, I thought that was the common finding?
