Rain on Windshield

Featured Replies

Things like ''Ran on the windshield" don't fuss me one bit. I'd be more curious to things actually in the Flight deck & the model! If they do it and it doesn't take FPS then all the better but I personally think they should focus on the main goal and that's the Professional VC & Exterior :)

  • They have already said they won't don't it. Probably the only feature I asked about. I wish they would at least give an option for users with fast systems but they are not gonna budge on it.   Pers

rain effects would be awesome and also ice build up on windscreen

If it's an FPS killer then if it rains I'll have to turn it off because I only get 30-40FPS with the NGX, wouldn't like to go below 20 ha.

i only get 15 :Waiting:

upgrade needed me thinks

You know...

I sent a letter to Lamborghini the other day because I was pretty irritated that they didn't market another model of their Aventador with a smaller engine. Basically, I don't need all the function of a 700HP V12 engine. I just need one with a simple 4-banger that'll help me on gas, but still look flashy. There's definitely a market! It should be a dealer option! It's really easy to swap engines like that!

I Was like you using the vc view sitting on the ground at orbox ymml which is a killer in fps i was only getting around 10 to 14fps and in the air i was around the 25 mark using vc. The fsx tweaks were the standard nothing special, all i had done was the highmenfix=1 and the wideaspect =true nothing else stock standard and my pc isnt o/ced. All my settings were maxed out except for a1 traffic and water. Than i changed the autogen down to 3/4 and wow that made alot of difference to my system which is only a mid range pc. Now sitting on the ground at ymml in vc mode iam now getting arond 20 to 25 fps and in the air iam getting around 35 to 39 fps and in 2d mode in the air iam geting around the 70 fps mark. so just changing one setting made the difference for me and i havnt noticed anything different in the scenery not that i havnt counted the trees before lol

It's obvious but I have never tried that , I'll do it later!

Rain is an integral part of weather and a correct appearance of drops adds so much to an immersive sim session. After so much time and with nowadays powerful computers they really should try to get it back besides the technical problems it creates. It is "ridiculous" to go back to FS9 just because this old sim gives a much better feeling of bad weather situations.

They should create an addon like

"PMDG environment upgrade" for maybe 20 $,

that at least adds rain, icing or cbs effects on the windshield for the MD11X and the 747X.

Agreed; it would be good and I would be extra for it...

Guys, there's really no point in a forum if you don't take the time to read what's being written here...

For those of you who still think they're not doing it for performance reasons, go and look back at the explanatory posts.

...or I'll summarize:

You can't "trade" animations as people suggest, or add any more once you've hit the limit. They've decided to err on functionality instead of looks.

"They've decided to err on functionality instead of looks."

Interesting point you made. When I use my 737 NGX I can see sun reflections on the displays and when I look outside I can see the strobes reflecting on the ground.

Are those shiny effects functionality?

Are they more important in the attempt to reproduce reality than a decent recreation of rain?

They are the artists, so they decide what's in.

In the J41 I can't find those effects, but have the VC rain. I think the rain would have been more important than the reflections, but it is only my opinion.

The reflections and lighting might not be animations, so they possibly are not limited by the FSX animation limit. Anyways, the VC rain effect discussion is similar to the weather radar discussion. It has been discussed and explained many times and has now become irritating. PMDG's approach is accuracy in simulation, so they won't sacrifice aircraft systems for visual effects, and they won't simulate things like WXR radar when FSX won't allow them to be simulated anywhere near realistically. Some people in this thread need to stop and think about how much expertise and experience the PMDG staff has and consider this before saying that something should be easy to code or produce in FSX and they don't understand why PMDG doesn't do it.

Here's one animation I'd change for raindrops... the oxygen!

Here's one animation I'd change for raindrops... the oxygen!

Quite how would you "animate" oxygen? It's quite easily done without animation. And, if you have a real mockup of a cockpit and a real oxygen mask then hypoxia could be real. When I say "quite easily" the coding is quite extensive and also has to be integrated into the cabin air supply system the coding of which is even more extensive and complex. In the VC10 model there are 15 separate gauges needed to create a fully integrated system that models a real life scenario.

Did I say 15? Well, there are another 20 which control various pressurisation scenarios and at what level the oxygen is supplied and for how long. Out all those 35 gauges only 12 are visible and can be read or accessed by the pilot.

I'm really getting tired of this discussion since it seems people won't listen, so I'll provide an even more brief summary:

It's not as simple as the people asserting it's possible are really making it.

-The JS41 uses far less animations, making it possible in that case.

It's not a single animation.

It can't be "swapped."

...and unless someone has some groundbreaking proven process, I doubt you're going to change anyone's mind on the matter, to include the developer.
