3H2Go Matrox (x3 22") transistion to 42" LED LCD

Featured Replies

My resolution won't really be decreasing all that much.

Currently I am running 5040 x 1050.... which is (3x) 1650 x 1050. The new LCD would be 1920 ... a lot more distance to cover vertically however as you note.

Omni, the FPS is my #1 issue I am running up against. Running at 5040 wide is taking a toll and it's all adding up. Higher res planes, higher res scenery and 10x different widgets and I will drop to 15 range. That is seriously lagging for a CPU clocked at 4.7 GHZ and a nicely optimized fsx.cfg ... and a 2.5gb 570 GTX.

If I drop down to one screen, 1650x1050, I peg at 30 no matter where I am at, no matter what I am in.

So really, this is about FPS battle. Otherwise, I would sit tight with the 3x22"

That's good to here. That's what I am looking at as well - UN40EH6000 (Samsung 40"). It looks nice.

So, why did you change from the 23"s? What was your hangup in general that caused you to drop the cash?

Whats the actual window size of a boeing 737? Are 3x22" an accurate measure?

It will still come out expensive in the end if I decide to switch over --

TH2GO - ~ $300

3x22" LCD - ~ $500

Nvidia 580+ - ~ > $400

Upgrade motherboard and CPU to ivy bridge -- ~ $400

Expensive!

Johan -- I like your setup with the scenery screens especially with the 'desk partition'; you're giving me ideas with an ikea table :)

Yeah, no doubt it was a chunk of change getting to this point.

The mobo + gpu don't count though :) You have to get those any way at some point. Not the Matrox $300 + 3x $500... yes, $800 deal. But so is a 40" LCD 120 hz. So really the cost is a wash in terms of widescreen simming.

I think if I'm going to spend that cash it will be on peripherals first --

A pfc yoke and throttle and a open cockpit mcp. Computer hardware will depreciate and cost less but these peripheries tend to last a long time (but don't drop in price).

Thanks for the posting link. I will try that after breakfast. You should sleep on it, and hopefully see my pics in the morning.

Just to add, I would never go to such a low res on a larger screen. My screen is about 3 feet from my eyes and the sharpness and clarity is amazing. I know, as another has pointed out, the Dell is expensive but IMHO - worth it.

Hopefully the pics will show this. They are of my friend - not the handsome chap you see on the left :Nail Biting:

Everything Frank has said I wholeheartedly agree with. Get a larger screen, but sure, at the expense of quality. Remember, you'll be looking effectively at the same pixel resolution on a 42" screen (or whatever large screen you decide on) as you would on a 24" ! I have gone the same way as Frank with the Dell 30" Ultrasharp, only difference is, I sit about 2ft away and the immersion factor is unbelievalbe, but still retaining the superb quality of a 25600x1600 resolution.

Thanks for your support, Howard. But, 25600? That's some resolution or some typo :Straight Face:

here is my setup using a projector, however as you all know resolution is pretty bad, but i love the huge display,

I7-10700F RTX 3070 32 Gig Ram

I am recently going to multi monitor set ups and loving it.

The only thing that can make it better than 3 monitors is this

http://home.comcast..../autosim/th2go/

I have one fresnel from 3DLens their F550. This is the best for flight simming. Unfortunately they do not have it listed on their site anymore. I need two more of this.

I have used my F550 frensel over a single 20" monitor..and its fantastic! I love it. So I am trying to see if I can set this up in a three monitor setup.

Here are some good discussion on using Fresnel setups

Omni - Agreed. I started with all peripherals first.

Howard - Thanks for the input. I can see this being an issue. Quality not only for the sim, I could probably live with the lower resolution, however, general PC usage would suffer it it isn't high quality and higher resolution.

Clayton / Manny - Cool stuff!

No typo Frank, I have a very, very ultra wide monitor :Just Kidding:

Hi Howard,

Are you very sure that is not a typo, as according to the Dell web site you have one zero too many? See below.

Hi Benjamin

I've discovered how to post pictures using the forum facilities. Here are the shots I promised earlier.

Just want to thank some of the people here for their screenshots because I noticed something I thought I would never see. I admittedly never tried FSX in triple monitor configuration (late to the Flight Simming hobby). I had just assumed it rendered it incorrectly just like every other game I've ever tried including Microsoft Flight.. I just moved my 40inch LED out of the way (back to being a TV) and put back my three 23inch LCD's in Eyefinity again.

Wow... It renders triple monitors the right way! No stretching on the wing monitors! I'm astonished.. When I bought this triple monitor setup over a year ago this is what I envision and time and time again so many games just failed to render correctly across three monitors.. I'm thrilled! How FSX got this part sooooo right is unbelievable.. Of all the games to nail it! :yahoo:

I have a 42" LG LED-LCD tv for my monitor. What out does for me being that it it's so big is allow me to keep a zoom factor of 1.00 while in the virtual cockpit. Most smaller monitors you need to keep the zoom at .70 to .90 for a good perspective. With this large tv for a monitor it for me gives a more true to life perception of the actual size of things in the sim. I use it in conjunction with track ir and out it's really nice. Most people I show it to with the pmdg ngx loaded up just stand there with there mouths open and their eyes glazed over.
