A quick fly by of Pro ATC

Hi MindYerBeak, have you actually purchased and used the ProATC-X?

Yes and yes.

you seem to have a very strong opinion of it which seems largely based upon negative feedback of earlier versions.

I base my opinion on( first hand experience) the current version of the software and the quality of what I heard somebody call support.

From what I have gleaned it will shortly be possible to import a FP and other useful features are being added along the way.

Yes, I know but so far it has been like putting lipstick on a pig.

I can understand that buying-in to a "non-mature" product can leave a nasty taste, but the practice seems to be quite frequent these days (CaptainSim, Blackbox, Opus etc)

I do _not_ think you can compare proatc with the products you named. They are very different. CS777 is being sold as beta. When you buy it you know it is not fully working but you have faith it will be completed. On top of that you save some eur 20 .OPUS is ready a for release product that is constantly updated and its support is really top notch. I think Blackbox Prologue was not indicating beta.It indicated a ready for release product with less features (compared to the extreme version to come). So Prologue=introduction or a light version.

After having read several posts from happy customers (yes there are some )

Yes they say there are some.

Hey Pete, thanks for info. Think your post had the most substance of info on it's current state. Once it gets the import function added, will take a harder look.

Another ProATC update!

Update 1.1.2.7

- Export of flightplans. Supported formats are FSX (xml), FSX/FS9 (txt), ICAO (11/2012), ICAO (old format), Squawq Box 3 (SB3), FSINN.

- Import of flightplans. Supported formats are ICAO (11/2012), ICAO (old format), Squawq Box 3 (SB3), FSINN.

- The issue "No SID available" on very short flights has been corrected.

- Waypoints not passed in a range of 2.2 NM are now better recognized as long as you pass them in a range of 5 NM.

- Duplicate Com-Frequencies on Scenery/AIRAC alignment are corrected.

Best regards,

Jim

Yes. Just save it as a FSX .pln.

Jim

Jim et al,

I'm really close to pulling the trigger on this. My biggest concern is, since I'm a big add-on user, how we'll does the copilot function currently handle an add-on like the PMDG NGX?

Cheers,

Pete

I responded too quickly. It does not import .pln yet. Apologize. I own FSBuild too and tried to import one and could not.

The co-pilot does not handle all features as it would with a default aircraft where the co-pilot handles everything including raising the gear. For the PMDG737 and any aircraft with an FMC, you request clearance first. A flightplan is prepared after clearance is provided. The co-pilot will be given the transponder code and he/she will enter that. You then go to the Company flight page and click on it then page forward or reverse until you see the ProATC plan. Select it and it is imported into your FMC. You'll have to do the rest of configuring the FMC. You then request to backup out of your parking and startup and you are given clearance there. You then ask for permission to taxi and you do the taxiing to the runway. You then ask to depart and departure gives you instructions to line up on the runway and then you are cleared for takeoff. Once off the ground, the co-pilot will handle all coms and nav frequencies and keep in touch with ATC. In the default, the co-pilot will also handle altitude and VS. In the aircraft with an FMC, you will have to handle all of those chores.

So basically, the co-pilot handles coms, nav, transponder, and keeping in touch with ATC as ATC hands off to various controllers. That's it.

Best regards,

Jim

Another quickie - I read a while ago that it doesn't control or interface with AI craft at-all - This still the case? And does anyone know if its in their dev plan to include that feature?

It's in development and testing as I speak. It was just announced in their forum today. They hope to get it released soon.

Jim

Its looking more and more like the replacement to RC4! As long as its reportedly bug free by the time they release the AI integration, then I'll be buying in december - a wee early X-Mas present for me :)
