A quick fly by of Pro ATC

Can it display its output on the client yet ?

No, it is one of my outstanding requests still. It uses the FSX SimConnect menu system -- same as the defalut ATC and programs like GSX. I've actually suggested inmplementing an interface via SimConnect Client Data as being more flexible than an outright ready solution, as then I could also support it via WideFS and its clients and Lua plug-ins. But that's probably just me being selfish! ;-)

surely not AdvDisplay.DLL? That module is obsolete. Perhaps you mean the FS Window, same as that used by FS? I don't think it is configurable by any means at all. Have you considered using ShowText instead?

Euh sorry ? I ment the window, with FSUIPC on top, transparent. I see it when using PFE.

What is ShowText ? Didnt saw it when skimming thru the manuals.

I must have missed it.

That's a standard FS window. FSUIPc simply calls the routines in FS to display it. I don't know of any way to configure its colour or fonts.

What is ShowText ?

A little program written as freeware by Rob van der Wiele. It allows the text to be shown in a separate window (from that separate program), with facilities for text siz and colours. It also runs on WindeFS client PCs. Please see the Download Links subforum on my ASupport forum (which is where you should really go for your questions).

Ok Im a new user to ProATC. I like an active developer that has new updates regularly. But I have some issues and I thought I would post here as well as thier forum. More people might lead to more answers or at least insight.

First and foremost issue, is that when running ProATC, my sim (currently P3D) freezes. Sometimes it will come back alive after about 5-10 minutes. Same conditions, same plane same flightplan, without proatc running, and I can complete flights. Tried different flightplans, and different scenarios, and it happens everytime. Quite annoying and frustrating.

That said, there is alot of potential with this software. The voices are fairly smooth and less robotic.

I havnt been given any SID or Star assignments yet even though it supports it. My exit and entry transitions are on the flightplan. Still nothing.

I was also directed to taxi to 25R and when at the holding point, no acknowledgement to my postion. Then finally it said taxi to 25L. The landing runway.

To the developers credit, except for the freezing issue, He has answered emails and looking into the issues.

The freezing issue he cannot duplicate, but I know others have it. If anyone has experienced this and knows of a work around, it would be helpful. The program is not in program folders, and yes it does run as administrator. Also has the latest update.

Thanks

There are a lot of individuals running ProATC with P3D and no problems. I would say there is a problem somewhere with your flightplan. Try running ProATC with a different flight plan. Whenever you have a crash or freeze while using ProATC you need to send in your ProATC log to the developer so that he can see what caused the problem. This is how he has fixed several problems, including freezes, for me and others. I saw where he is going to come up with another update to make sure STARS are issued. I have a feeling there is a problem with ProATC reading your flightplan. I hope your AIRAC data is installed properly too.

Best regards,

Jim

Thanks for the input. I think there should be some standard of what pro atc likes and doesnt like. Im using fsbuild exporting to a fsinn format which proatc reads. So obviously it is quite picky as to what works and doesnt work. Im not sure I see a correlation of freeze pausing p3d only for it to recover but ill try anything at this point, since im not able to use it much until i sort this out.

The last update said it can read SIDS and STARS now which I have tried. Also tried without and still same issue. My AIRAC seems to be installed correctly. I did the import of AIRAC and align scenery. Also verified a few airports for the same STAR and SID names. All seem to be correct.

Ill send off the proatc log file then to the developer next time it happens.

1.1.3.2 is released today. Its a first phase of AI implementation. This addon is far from perfect, but it sure is nice to see constant updates. Sometimes 2-3x a week! Almost unheard of.

Incidentally has anyone noticed that pro atc takes a heck of alot of CPU %? Then I even noticed FSX/P3D (im using P3D) even uses about 29% of CPU resources on pause! I find that odd.

I7-14700k 64gb 6000Mhz DDR5 ASUS  z690 ROG STRIX Gaming  RTX 4080 Super,

New update for those that have it. 1.3.5

This is coming together nicely. Have had some decent flights with it about 70% of the time. its getting there.

New features

- Missed Approach (MA) functionality has been added according to AIRAC data. If no Missed approach defined for an airport by AIRAC, PRO-ATC/X calculates vectors for it.

- Missed Approaches are displayed on the map when selecting "Data --> SID / STAR Procedures", additionally on the moving map when a MA is being executed.

- A flightplan is also generated, it is saved to "proatcx-ma".

- Important: Please re-import AIRAC data for importing Missed Approaches, otherwise vectors only will be calculated!

Additional functionality added to the flight planning window

- You may now deactivate automatic route calculation in case you should prefer to plan manually.

- Waypoints can be added to the route by entering its ICAO or by right-clicking on it.

- You may add a whole airway. Activate J-Ways/V-Ways and select an airway by rightclicking on it or by simply entering its ICAO.

Fixes

- Heading corrections are optimized.

- Approaches on airports not having STARs but approaches are corrected.

- SIDs not having waypoints are corrected.

- COM-Frequency changes made by hardware should now be recognized (thanks to Pete Dowsons suggestions).

I already use FS2Crew, FSCommander and EFB so would it be a waste of money buying this for just more realistic ATC?

Only you can answer if you want realistic ATC or not. I wouldn't call it a waste in any respect. Its made leaps and bounds in improvements albeit with still some strange stuff but it can't use to be developed and issues looked at right away.

Last post before yours have been a few updates plus there is 3 video tutorials about its moving map and flight planning. Overall I'm pleased with it.

The more I used ProATC-X, the more I realized the features it currently lacks, most importantly AI interaction. So I decided to give PFE a try, after being dissuaded by claims that it was complicated to setup, and I am glad I did. Right now I would say this is the most feature rich Default ATC replacement programs.

Complete AI interaction, better then I've seen in RC4

No more traffic alerts with aircraft thousands of feet above or below you.

Plenty of voices by default, but I highly recommend the voice expansion pack as not only more voices, but added airline callsigns (over 1000) and they don't sound robotic. With the Xpansion pack you also get an additional set for free, available on their forum, that will make the the voices for the controllers, sound like radio chatter. (Xpack2)

Ability to fly stars/sids, although they have to be set up by you. It will not assign them, like ProATC-X will. Basically you include the SID and/or STAR in your fightplan, then in PFE you edit the altitudes for them.

Full ground control including gate assignment based by airline. (Like FSX default)

Taxi Guidance system in the form of a small gauge, that not only gives you a visual queue in the form of an arrow pointing to the taxiway assignments, but also by audio (Voice) queue.

ProATC-X may catch up and maybe even surpass PFE one of these days, but for right now I would say PFE is the best alternative to default ATC (Even with my modifications to it)

I'm going to do a video with it tomorrow, which I will post in the video section, so you can check it out.

Thanks

Tom
