September 21, 201213 yr They make some of these aircraft in my home of Toronto at DeHavilland. I see them test flying them overhead! Hope they make a good 2D cockpit panel as I fly a static 2 seat full simulator, so 3D not required. Most aren't making 2D anymore. Shame.:( Flying a 2 Seat Static GA Simulator out of CYYZ.
September 21, 201213 yr Same goes for me Kanadaken, Fully enclosed, two seat, dual controlled cockpit modeled after...wait for it...wait for it.... Dash8-Q400! Over a 1000 hours on the Dreamwings Q4 and am so ready for this plane to come out. Even bought a new PC for this!! ^_^ Crossing fingers.... and trying to be patient Jeff NorthLink VA - Commerce & Community in Northern North America!
September 21, 201213 yr The use of an external flight dynamics model allows things normally impossible in FSX (stalls, spins, icing etc) but that requires an enormous job of integration because the model looses some "basic" things like pausing, replay, time compression, using struts, moving on ground... Contact points are no more used, .air file is useless. It's understandable that other companies don't spend years on integrating third-party FDE engines because not only it's a highly qualified work but it's also very long and expensive. As for the Q400, using a more realistic FDE doesn't make it easier to fly ! All the contrary ! Are you saying those "basic" things can not be included in the final product, or are you saying a lot of extra coding is required to restore them? Curt Branch
September 21, 201213 yr Samdim, will the performance be good, or will it seriously stretch the resources? Will it be more demanding on fps or graphics than some of the current good add ons?
September 22, 201213 yr Commercial Member will the performance be good, or will it seriously stretch the resources? Will it be more demanding on fps or graphics than some of the current good add ons? I have been testing the Q4 on two machines: i7-2700k with 8gigs of RAM being pushed by a NVidia 460 GTX OC and a E8500 Core 2 Duo with 8gigs of RAM being pushed by a Nvidia 8800GT The E8500 has been my main machine from the beginning of the Alpha Testing phase and Oley has worked diligently to ensure that I was able to achieve satisfactory fps. Out of all the videos posted on the Facebook - MajesticSoftware Q400/Youtube (kroswynd) pages, 80% of them were created using my E8500 Core 2 Duo. Most of my sliders are set to the right and I have my Ultimate Traffic 2 set at 90%. Autogen is set to normal, ground traffic is off and ships and ferries I have set to 16%. Of course when using ORBX, some of the sliders are scaled back to the left. Now of course, if you compound heavy weather with clouds into this equation there will definitely be some performance degradation. Also to note I have my Core 2 Due overclocked at 3.8 The i7-2700k is not overclocked at this time, and I am leaving it this way intentionally until the Q400 testing is over. However, everything that I have thrown at it thus far (being locked at 30 fps) I am able to maintain about 12- 29 fps overall, and 12 - 15 when flying through lots of clouds and or at add-on airports. When utilizing FRAPS, well that's another story in itself. There are parameters that can be set from within the Graphics section of the .ini, which will allow one to control the refresh rate of the PFD and MFDs. Also (if the coding is not changed in the process) one should be able to assign how many cores your machine has which will help in the performance as well. September 22, 201213 yr Thank you Simeon for giving us the "low down" and keeping us up to date... And Aleksi... What is that you are showing us "non" technical guys? It looks great but I am at a loss... a new Apple thing? I am very intrigued... Jeff NorthLink VA - Commerce & Community in Northern North America!
September 22, 201213 yr Jeff, That is something that me and a couple of friends of mine have been working for the past couple of months. It is a web-browser-based Electronical Flight Bag, which calculates the takeoff/ and landing calculations for you, such as V-Speeds, required runway lenght, and so on, based on the data input from the user. Currently it works PC browser, and it is optimized for iPad. It is developed in co-operation with Majestic Software (you can see the Dash picture in the background!). More information coming when the time is right! PMDG & MAJESTIC SOFTWARE BETA CPL (A) + ME/IR Aleksi Lindén
September 22, 201213 yr You guys say we miss a regional aircraft in FSX but what about the PMDG J4100 ? The J4100 is a stunning piece of realism and my choice ahead of the PMDG737. The q400 will be judged against the J4100 and I look forward to the comparisons and if its up to par Im in ! ZORAN
September 22, 201213 yr Crosswind, those numbers sound not bad at all for unclocked machine. Mine is oclocked and the 737 runs like a dream, the Jetstream is a little harder and the heaviest pig is the Queen of the Skies. So if the Majestic is somewhere in between or better, this will make me very happy.
September 23, 201213 yr Thanks Aleksi... That looks neat... NorthLink VA - Commerce & Community in Northern North America!
