November 4, 201213 yr Author What can I say? You guys make some powerful and convincing arguments for putting any such decision to close this forum on the back burner, at the very least. The management team has listened, and appreciated what you had to say. I guess we really wish we could have been much more effective at influencing ORBX to have been more moderate in their view of the outside world. Oh well! It is what it is! As suggested, we will make sure that our AVSIM ToS are enforced and that this place won't just become another orchestrated ORBX glee club. We want it to remain a true home for those who enjoy ORBX products, but want to keep their dignity and retain the freedom to express their own reasonable opinions, both good and bad. Thank you all for the assistance you have rendered in the formation and growth of this forum. Without many of you (and you know who you are), we would have never got this place off the ground. Let's work together to enhance it even further and thereby ensure its continuation as our home within a home. Kind regards,
November 4, 201213 yr Wow. Thanks for that Stephen, and the rest of the moderators. Nice to have the respect and consideration of AvSim to help the community stay open and honest. William Sequeira
November 4, 201213 yr Thanks very much Stephen. :smile2: Surely not everybody was kung fu fighting. https://rationalwiki.org
November 4, 201213 yr I rarely get into the "political stuff", and I'm not by any standards an "insider", but this statement really confuses me. While I've questioned the purpose of this forum myself in the past, that questioning has been in the opposite direction. Sorry, but I just don't see this. More to the point, I think having an independent platform for Orbx product praise and gripe serves the community. In that regard, I would hate to see this forum closed. Whether you're for 'em, agin' 'em, or somewhere in between, Orbx and their products are a force in the sim community and not having a place to discuss their products on Avsim would make this a lesser place in my mind. I have a bad feeling that there's much going on behind the scenes here that poor naive outsider me doesn't see. Scott Well said, I share your same feelings. David David
November 4, 201213 yr Great Stuff Stephen and the decision keeps AVSims forums the most useful for FS Simmers still. Whilst posting in this thread I got a five day posting ban for repeating a request that ORBX review the layout of their logo on all theire screenshots. I thought that the logo obscured too much of the actual shot of the product and as such would benefit from modifying to a less obtrusive layout/position so that we could see the shots better? I thought that was helpful and constructive? ....apparently not. ORBX's forum is run by them by their rules. Fair enough. Those rules are rather restrictive IMHO so it's great to have a venue where we can post screenshots, discuss ideas, needs for fixes, missing objects etc.etc. FTX issue patches and upgrades so suggesting improvements ought to be a good idea surely? If we post ideas here the developers can read them if they choose and do what they will with them. In years of simming (Rail and Flight) I've always had a friendly, positive and constructive dialogue with the creators of add-ons and content and that's hardly surprising when we share an enthusiasm for a hobby. However criticism comes in all shades, from good to bad. Ideas for improvements and fixes sometimes come from lateral thinking or way out in the field through discussion. Stifle discussion and potentially you stifle the creativity? Bearing in mind some may still be banned I don't see flagging up release announcements when they occur as advertising? and surely this happens on other commercial forums anyway? Correct me if that's wrong? Personally I always like to see user screenshots of an add-on before I buy (whoever the publisher) so lets keep them coming for FTX and discussions on performance are helpful to those with older machines too. As FTX regions expand our collective "local knowledge" of our favourite add-ons can be discussed here from any publisher and useful comparisons made. Geoff Geoff Brown

November 4, 201213 yr Really? Yep! My post and a response is (was) still there and judge for yourself whether my comments were constructive or not? Many of the screenshots are excellent but the darkened logo strip obscures 20% of them. Didn't seem rocket science to either do away with the darkened band, rescale or relocate them to me so the response on a noreply e-mail really took me by surprise. But lets not dwell on it? ....we know what the score is so lets enjoy the work the actual developers produce eh? Geoff Geoff Brown
November 4, 201213 yr Geoff, I read your posts about that and after the second attempt I thought 'He's gonna get up someone's nose any time soon'. Sure enough, wrists slapped! :p0128: The World is divided into two groups. Those who say "Give me a link" and those that provide the link. WWG1WGA
November 4, 201213 yr How is this section any different to any of the other commercial ones? Yes this is a really good question. I personally find this forum of interest and value. Hope that it doesn't go away.
November 4, 201213 yr I find its presence here on AVSIM useful in a "convenience" sort of way. I never use their own ORBX forum

I didn't think those London shots were too useful to be honest both for the reason you mention (the logos) and also that because I thought the camera was positioned too low i.e. no view of the area at large, surroundings and textures etc. They seem more than a little uptight there.

Geoff With all due respect Geoff you'r wrong, it is free advertising when flagging up release or announcements here on this forum or on any other forums. About your five days posting ban....just plain ridiculous, I was not even baned when I decided not to support them anymore, me been banned came after I raised my voice in support of peoples who got the shaft with the pre-paid/sale. I'm still not buying their products and guess what......I did not die, I'm still breathing.
November 5, 201213 yr Hi Stephen, I'm trying to understand the reasoning on what makes the ORBX forum different from all the other Commericial Support Forums (Official / Unofficial) that would warrant its exclusion from AVSIM and not the others?. November 5, 201213 yr AT risk of being barred from here; ..... seems that AVSIM is geting a bit bitter these days
November 5, 201213 yr With all due respect Geoff you'r wrong, it is free advertising when flagging up release or announcements here on this forum or on any other forums. Of course it is, but how is this different from the scores of other products announced in various places (official forums, unofficial forums and miscellaneous places) throughout Avsim? Orbx gets whacked here as much as it gets promoted (kinda reminds me of the unofficial Carenado forums in that regard) and having both activities and subsequent discussion serves the community. I still fail to see where and how Orbx is getting preferential treatment compared to other vendors. I'm still not buying their products and guess what......I did not die, I'm still breathing. As good an example for the common usage of the term non-sequitur as you're gonna find. :-) Scott
