I'm really looking forward to FTX UK as I stopped using UTX a while ago (it's just so much smoother without).

I like the coastlines but not the FPS-killer roads and you can't install just the coastlines and keep the default roads.

One would have thought they'd have updated it by now to make it more friendly but alas no.

The FTX screenies look awesome... I will be giving the new AS 'bus some air time over those fields for my VA. B)

Massively excited by this. Was thinking of buying HorizonVFR and trees apes but this looks immense.

As a UK based simmer I start or end almost all my flights at one of the UK2000 Extreme airports and I can't wait to see how much difference this makes to the overall immersion of flying in the UK.

Unfortunately since purchasing the NGX it's all I want to fly so if this cripples my system I guess I'll have to skip it.

Hello

Why not just turn off the roads in the UTX config tool ?

Hello

Why not just turn off the roads in the UTX config tool ?

Then I wouldn't have any roads at all except for the textures, and and therefore no road traffic which I quite enjoy. UTX kills the default roads through exclusion.

It hasn't even been released nor has a release date been announced, and you already have this conjecture drivel and nay-saying over less than 10 screenshots  . Calm down and wait until you actually have and use the scenery, or wait for detailed reviews. No sense trying to crucify something you've never seen before.

Anyways, as for the OP and along with Howard, can't wait for this myself, I'll absolutely be buying it the second it hits the shop!

Regards,

Kyle

Hee hee, I've just downloaded the latest version and done just that. All roads and bridges... wow, the scenery really flies!! (sorry for the pun) I can see it being a problem for those guys who fly GA, but personally, I only fly the NGX around Europe and so I have no need to use roads and so forth for navigation purposes. I'm more interested in how it looks from FL250 and how it performs.

It depends on the version. Earlier versions did not allow you to deisable the roads.

Download the latest update. Use the control panel to disable the scenery. Then open FSX, and enable all the UTX sceneries, except for roads. You can also disable lighting for even better performance.

I am a Horizon GenX user, but I have to be honest and say that there are certain aspects of FTX England that would be superior......

* The quality of the GenX terrain textures is not as good in some locations as it is in others. A good example would be the area around RAF Lyneham. The colours are oversaturated in that area, which makes the textures look rather ugly at times in broad daylight, and also less distinct.

* Night lighting is non existent in GenX, so flying in the dark is basically a no go area.

* There are currently no packages that add realistic autogen buildings throughout the entire GenX England region, and the Treescapes trees are currently too large (although that is hopefully something that will be rectified soon).

The screenshots of FTX England London are very interesting. I do not know how dense the scenery will be in this area, but I suspect that the framerates will be rather better than VFR London X. The latter is a big problem on my PC if I also want to display UK2000 Heathrow Xtreme, Gatwick Xtreme, London City Xtreme, a fair number of smaller VFR airfields, Treescapes trees, and the FSX Power Project freeware (electricity pylons, wind turbines etc). Whilst I can live with framerates as low as 15fps, it's the OOM errors that p*** me off. I have even experienced a couple of these in DX10 mode, but this combo is basically unflyable in DX9 mode on my PC. I barely have to leave the ground, and make a climbing turn before FSX crashes

Nevertheless, the fact that I do like to see real world landmarks and features, and also accurately placed electricity pylons etc. will probably mean that I stick with the GenX photoscenery for the moment.

EDIT: It's also worth noting that some of the GenX Scotland scenery has a very "washed out" appearance. The area around Glasgow in particular is (IMO) very disappointig in this respect. I expect the FTX England/Wales/Scotland scenery to look much more consistent right across the entire region.

Hello Christopher,

If you also have Ultimate terrain Europe then you will have very good night lighting with GenX if you layer the scenery correctly.

All this will be present with FTX UK...
