Orbx England What Do You Think?

Featured Replies

...the day all customers will wait to buy a finished product developers will sell a finished product, simple as that...

Alain... no, it's really not as "simple as that", much as you might feel your comments are "spot on". I respect your opinion, but it's just that.

Sorry, but I've been on the other side of this software development thing in other arenas, and none of this is "simple". If you delay launching, customers are sure that you're torturing them and keeping them from what they want and need. "Why is this release delayed? Where is it? Can I be a beta? I'll pay for it! I NEED these features!" Then you release without perfection and your hear the old "they're making us all beta testers" stuff. You see both of these things here constantly.

This isn't about black and white - good guys, bad guys. It just isn't so. It's a balance. You want everything perfect? Really, really perfect? Great. What are you willing to pay for that?

It really IS all about value for the dollars you spend, not perfection or "what developers get away with". So far, in almost every case, Orbx has met my criteria. If they haven't met yours, that's fine. We all vote with our money.

You seem to be on a crusade. I've never quite believed in crusades - I'm too much a pragmatist. They tend to go overboard and rarely end well, but good luck to you.

Scott,

Nowhere have I said that a product has to be perfect at release, I've praised Orbx products for as long as I can remember, read old post of mine, you will not find one of my post saying that Orbx has crappy products, so you'r wrong about me been on a crusade, if you want to talk about customers service and bad PR from the top... I'm in ....but that as nothing to do with their products.

It's not because I quit buying their products that I can't tell the good and the bad if I see it.

Granted that Orbx always improved their products from time to time for what I will call small bump on the road they never had so many complaint about this release compare to any other product of theirs, why will that be, am I making this up??

Also granted that you will always have customers that can't wait and want their candy right away or customers that will find no wrong no matter what and buy anything just to say they have it this is not a reason to release a product with missing or missplaced town, missing streams and major landmark.

Be safe flying.

I'm obviously in a minority here, but I think it's great.

I fly short European hops in the NGX and feel it does a great job of delivering the "feel" of flying over England which is what I wanted from the product.

I find photo scenery too flat when departing/arriving hence buying this.

It's vastly improved over the default and UTX and I guess because I don't fly VFR and want to follow super accurate road placement and landmarks, that's why i like it.

For my purposes it does exactly what I want it to, which is to deliver a more realistic experience of flying over England and making it look and feel..well...more like England.

Congratulations ORBX, ENG is fantastic; it transforms England and is filled with realistic scenes with glorious colours all across the green and pleasant land.

No, you're not. Do not forget that usually the people who do NOT like something post the most. ^_^ All the others are busy enjoying the product. (It's so easy stating things that are impossible to check... B) but I really do think most people enjoy this addon!)

Remember, if you wear an Armani suit with a cheap tie, people will always comment on the cheap tie before complimenting you on the expensive suit

As you all know I speak my mind and I have to say coming from the UK I love it. (Think people need to sort out the sky colour they use it's not Hawaii in the UK. But that's not Orbx.)

I made a post about beaches and race tracks, and other added what they would like to see in the SP's

Hi all, just a quick response

- the sand colour is the same as used in other regions but we may tweak it to make it a bit more yellow for you.

- coast lines will be tweaked but i can't promise all beach's will be visible.

- if we start doing disused airfields we will never finish!! there are so many and loads have been built on.

everything else has been noted.

please keep any suggestion coming

Paul

You cannot ask for anymore, they come across as commeted to making ENG as good as a land base version can be. It also fit/bleads with UK2000 airports. I would soon have a month flying this version that wait 4-6 weeks for a SP1 version. It's 90% imo ATM just needs the polish.

Well I'm with SteveW and BA757 — I'm enjoying the product very much. Frankly my dears, I couldn't give a damn that my house is hidden in a generic urban sprawl, since the aforementioned sprawl is still a lot better, and better positioned, than what I was seeing before.

I also take the point that people tend not to post when they aren't complaining, so this is a post that isn't.

Yesterday, I took a flight from Southampton to Newcastle. I was using RW weather, so the takeoff from rwy 20 was in very wet conditions and the visibility reduced accordingly. Nevertheless, the area to the south of the airport was hugely improved over what I've been used to seeing previously — the M27 was good, and the docks and oil terminals around Southampton were a very welcome surprise, as were the offshore windfarms on the approach to Newcastle's rwy 25. The countryside around that airport looked right, too.

Well done, Orbx Hampshire, I reckon you've given us a great product at an excellent price.

Cheers,

Brian
