Regretful purchases for FSX

Featured Replies

I'm beginning to understand why so many people dislike CS's 757 (even though it's not completely done yet). Boxed purchases never saw the latest updates that made it flyable and actually enjoyable. It's still CS's fault not allowing boxed versions to be updatable, but still...

I wish it were so. No, the reason we don't like the plane is that 7 years after it was introduced, it is still a hot mess. As one example, the FMC is, YEARS after it was introduced, still incomplete and nearly unusable - and that's the critical piece in a plane like the 757. It was built to be flown by that thing. It still won't load in the waypoints of a SID or STAR into the Legs page, as an example.

I will say this much, at least the FD works - unlike nearly every other CS plane.

  • I regret buying FSX lol

  • I've yet to make a purchase I truly regretted, but that's from being very careful. There are a few airplanes I don't fly much but I can't say that's all their fault. Most everything I've bought doe

And top be fair, I like the CS707, and with the user mods avaialble for the engines, the 727 is fun too. And I paid fuill price for the 707. The rest of their fleet is worth the sales price - but not full price.

But they are not complete products - their flight directors are useless and should be labeled hazards to navigation. Esp. the Herc. That one will fly you into the ground if you follow it.

My esteem for the LDS has dropped dramatically in the last year. It was never totally bug-free (engine start/FMC data dump problem) and recent incompatibility with video card drivers and a "deal with it" attitude on the support forum has put me off rather permanently. But like many posts in this thread, that's just my mileage.

In any case, without a doubt, my most regretted purchases, as a class, are those from Wilco. Always enticing, but just flawed enough to where they will only always frustrate. They are regrettable because, like a battered spouse, I will continue to return for more abuse. As many said here, my most recent bout is with their V2 of the CRJs... just a load of junk.

Wow - it's easy to forget that the LDS 767 had its origins in FS2000 as the first ever Wilco PIC product. That may make it the longest toothed add on in FSX and thus explain why it's starting to become incompatible. I havn't flown it since I got the MD11 and the NGX. Many good hours in that plane.

I will never forget how good I felt when i sucessfully merged the PIC with the POSKY.

There are a few Devs that I buy somthing no questions because I am familiar with the quality of their work....A2A, RealAir, Classics Hangar and PMDG for the most part...im not as much of a tube flyer..tho I do like my freighters.

Like Ron, and a couple of others mentioned, I got the Carenado collecting disease too for a little bit. While there are some Carenados that I really do enjoy, like the 337, most are just buggy...if they would only spend a few more days beta testing and fixing some things, they could have really good planes. Since Carenado makes the type of planes I would most likey rent, buy with lotto win, or just get some 'stick' time in here and there, I do like to have my brain familiar with the various GA type panel layouts. For that reason, I can look past the lack of system depth and just focus on the checklist flows and operating proceedures. I now only purchase Carenado planes if they have the Flight1 wrapper...hindsight, I wish I had done this earlier.

Cheers

TJ

Just did my first one: CS 777 1.0

What a crap for 59 Euros ! I just asked my self: "has it always to be a PMDG or are there other good developers ?". At least for Boeing Birds i know the answer now. They know why they write on there Website that they don't give a refund and that there is no Demo Version. Never buy CS Software again, thats for sure.

With all due respect, you would have been warned if you had a look on the FS forums before purchase. I haven't heard one good thing about the CS 777 [apart from the exterior model which is excellent].

You will be very very lucky to get a refund back, try claim through paypal.

We have lamented time and time again about the quality of the aircraft for you to go and buy it is a direct blow to everyone that has ever been truthful about the CS777. Either way, enjoy your purchase!

You guys amaze me... With so many FS forums and discussions going around why do you buy a product i) without asking about it first; ii) trying demo/"pirated" version first?!? YES, I say pirated cuz I hate software pirates but I hate disrespectful developers even MORE...

That sir will earn you a 30 day suspension for advocating piracy. It could have, and perhaps should have been permanent, but when or if you come back, there had better be a change of attitude.

Well spotted. This chap says he hates pirates but appears not to mind being one. With a huge range of website reviews and extremely frank forum comments on assessments about addons nowadays, it is almost impossible to fail to grasp the qualities or flaws in almost every addon that becomes available.

The worst pirate we had told us that he was "sick and tired of being ripped off by developers" so adopted the idea of try before you buy, but didn't say whether his trying was ever converted to buying. We found out later that he was an exec of a publicly quoted company earning around $150,000 a year. He didn't make it clear whether his own work contribution was on a try him before pay him basis.

I don't know of many developers who would fail to refund if there was a genuine and critical problem, and if there are, then they can be avoided and known about from other forum posts. There has never been a more open and accessible avenue to user critiques than now.

All the best,

My regrets after purchase was:

1. CS757 (glad I only paid when on sale 9.99)

2. DA Fokker 70/100 (only because they promsied a VC and it never happened)

3. Anything from Wilco that requires support

Hi Rob

Maybe it is a bit off topic but i want to mention some points: Many Forums any reviews are available today but we have to take into account that the many post are negative because the users looking for help or are frustrated. The happy customers don't post that much as the others. AE Airbus Extended as an Example: There are so many complains and freaking out Users and negative comments about the A320 Ext. in there Forum but i bougth it and i'm quiet happy with it. To be honest, for me as an intermediate level simmer and not a professional, i prefere it over the outstanding pmdg 737ngx.

While i totally agree that piracy is an absolute no go for Music, Software, Movies and all other kind of Media i wondering why there are not so many Demo Versions of Software anymore.

Maybe you as a Developer can answer me that question: Is it a huge effort to implement kind of Time limit for an add-on ?

I read in the forums that some add ons have kind of copy protection like the pmdg 747 has an non working altimeter when pirated or the CS 777 has no Landig gear and locked yoke as an example. Is it difficult to set a timer for this kind of copy protection

let's say it for about 10-15 Minutes like FSDT do with there Airports ?

If there is a Demo Version of a Software, there is absolutely no reason to ask for a refund. I'm not going to ask CS for a refund because i knew it before i bouth it that there is no refund. A deal is a deal.
