Regretful purchases for FSX

Featured Replies

The CS 777 is unflyably...I don't even try.  The saving grace is that I picked her up for $15.00

FS2CREW for PMDG MD-11  Just didn't like the product...MCE way better IMO.

Radar Contact 4.3  Never seems to work properly...gave up on it!  Oh I soooo wanted it to work.

  • I regret buying FSX lol

  • I've yet to make a purchase I truly regretted, but that's from being very careful. There are a few airplanes I don't fly much but I can't say that's all their fault. Most everything I've bought doe

For me  (like each one of you) the most regretful was FSX from Microsoft...What a pain to get this thing working through the years...Even had to purchase special hardware and on top, had to overclock  the CPU. However, since it's the platform of everything in our hobby, I cannot uninstall it.

this will be strange to most of you:

PMDG 737NGX (very hard on fps, no joy for me at all)

but soon as I upgrade my PC, NGX will be probably my favorite.

Same for me, I've bought a few add-ons that I know are great, but I just can't enjoy them on my current system because of frame rate issues. Those include the Carenado T182T, Eaglesoft DA42 and some OrbX airports that look great but make the sim run at 10-12 FPS. I don't regret them though, because I knew they might be too hard on the frames, and I'm planning on upgrading my system in a few months anyway... The only (legal) way to check was to buy and try, and just put them away for a few months if it didn't work out.

Ithink there's enough information in the forums to make an informed decision most of the time. If a plane has lots of bugs and issues, is hard on the FPS, has poor flight dynamics etc, there will usually be posts about it. Same with scenery - it's widely known that photo scenery is flat, for example.

The only real regret was the Flight1 C177. I thought, being a simple GA addon, it would be easy to install in P3D, but Flight1 actively prevent it by making sure you're running FSX. Also I later found out they don't even allow you to use their addons in P3D, because they hate progress. Fortunately, their return policy is still excellent so I didn't lose anything except time.

Thats a shame. My system isn't the best, but I still get exceptionally good frames.

Have you done all the tweaks necessary to gain performance?

Have you cared to try FS9, XPlane, P3D, and/or Flight? FSX is not the 'platform of everything in our hobby' you have choices and some very good one's at that. FS9 can be made to look very close to FSX without all the hassle and Flight has the best FDE of any simulator on the market the only exception may be AeroFly. Flight was supposed to be FS11 but the ilks of Steve Ballmer ruined that but some outstanding features seeped through. We can see what FS11 would have truly been like. P3D is going 64bit in a few so imagine FSX without all the hassle we have today. XPlane may be the future for this hobby so the sooner we all can embrace it and and the developers of XPlane can get it to prime time the better. To lock yourself to FSX as that's the only choice is crazy. Look around and have some other things installed on your machine. PMDG might not support it but you might be surprised your enjoyment level could go up and your frustration level could go way down.

FS2020

Alienware Aurora R11 10th Gen Intel Core i7 10700F - Windows 11 Home 32GB Ram
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 Ti Super OC 16GB - Pimax Crystal Light VR

PMDG might not support it

Full stop for me.

XPlane maybe, in time.  Its not there yet and too epxensive to start all over with payware add-ons.

P3D is going nowhere outside commercial use/support IMHO.

FS9 grafix will no longer "suspend my disbelief".

Flight is a sad joke and an insult to this community.

Aerosoft: Mega Airport Heathrow

Yep! Gotta agree! The building's are missing and the radio for taxi and takeoff is messed up. I want to start on the runway, but it starts short of the runway which means I'll have to mess around with my controls and pedals all the time... truely a total mess. How do you get rid of it and return the default Heathrow??????

Anything made by Abacus, I highly regret purchasing. I wonder how they continue making such low quality stuff.

Because people keep buying it.

A little strange to say the least... For starters, i'm guessing you didn't bother looking at the AirbusX forum? Many, many people had the throttle issue (including myseld), and it was a very simple fix. Not saying it's a great addon - I'm not best pleased with it. However, to slate it for an EASILY fixed problem does seem a little unfair.

The Citation... Can't comment.

I checked the forum and followed the fix carefully. No matter what I did, the throttles would not move more than a little bit. After 2 tries I just gave up.

I don't know anything about programming or making a FSX addon, so I may have belittled the efforts made by the Aerosoft team. I truly didn't intend to do that and I like Aerosoft's products and will continue to buy them. However, one has to wonder why the throttle control setup is so complicated with the Airbus X Extended while more complicated addons like the Concorde and 737 NGX have done it w/o any problems on the side of the end user. It might just be my PC, my setup or my luck. I'll definitely give it another try in the near future.

CS 777, didn't complete a week on my hard drive. This is my Biggest loss. CS never again....
