April 29, 201313 yr Would PMDG consider doing an user panel option between dirty and clean cockpits? If for one, love the 'broken in feel' of the NGX, dirt, dust and fingerprints add to the immersion factor.. I second that ... well, kind of, anyway ... How about a "visual model extension, flightdeck panel graphics only" priced at, say, 24.99 USD? What happened to AVSIM

I for one, love the 'broken in feel' of the NGX, dirt, dust and fingerprints add to the immersion factor.. Thanks for thinking of those that think dirty is disgusting. I know some love it but I also know some hate it. When it comes down to it, it's not a huge deal, but I'm firmly in the clean side. I've worked at PAX airlines and am now at a cargo airline. They both have crews I've witnessed cleaning the cockpit. They have to be trained, but they clean it. Apparently not all corporations do this. Imagine coming into, say a recording studio... Knobs that should be white are off white with brown or black dirt in the crevices. The main board has random sticky spots on it. You can see someone's foot has been resting on some of the equipment. Is this "broken in" and "worn" or total lack of respect for very expensive equipment? In the few GA planes I've flown you could see the age, but they were never dirty. Anyways if its easy to have 2 panel states (which I doubt) and not add dev time or VAS, then cool. If not, I'm gonna buy anyway but not necessarily like it. "I am the Master of the Fist!" -Akuma
April 29, 201313 yr Commercial Member I've worked at PAX airlines and am now at a cargo airline. They both have crews I've witnessed cleaning the cockpit. Which airline was that? Having worked with a few, I find that hard to believe. Sure, they reach up and grab the trash bag off of the armrest/door/whatever, and maybe the cups, but unless the aircraft is going in for a check, you're not going to see the panel cleaned to where you aren't going to see what's in the NGX. Granted, the relatively fewer cycles could also mean that the 777 also sees less wear from crews going in and out, but to have a purely pristine, right-off-the-line panel is a bit of a stretch. April 29, 201313 yr Sorry Scandavian. no way am I telling you that. I can tell you it was more than the white trash bag. Whether you beleive it or not (or me for that matter) is inconsequential to what I've witnessed. As for my current company, I have seen the position in the job postings. I've also checked the pay rate which is, I think, the lowest paying job we have. The people I've witnessed doing it in my current company don't even wear the uniform which I find... curious but oh well. "I am the Master of the Fist!" -Akuma
April 30, 201313 yr Shoot, I have seen while boarding pilots doing this themselves. It is not unheard of. Sent from my Apple communications device. William Sequeira
May 1, 201313 yr This is taking toooo long for the T7. I've decided to stop waiting for it! So you're back to flight simming instead of posting?!? What happened to AVSIM
May 1, 201313 yr One of our captains has a reputation of needing an extra 10-15 minutes of preflight. Just to clean out the cockpit himself. I can only say I like his way of working. Name available upon request

I for one, love the 'broken in feel' of the NGX, dirt, dust and fingerprints add to the immersion factor.. No, it's way too much work to do that. (For one, we'd have to find a super dirty 777 somewhere and photograph it) Converting those photos into textures is an extremely time consuming process and I don't think we're going to do it all over again - the product is what it is.
