September 13, 201312 yr Author Hi Poul how did you port over the Leonardo Maddog to DX10 ? Thanks Michael Hi Michael! I did this when testing 3.2.1 for Steve, some time ago. It wasn't perfect at that time, and took considerable time, changing settings, but now the Fixer development has reached the point where one has nothing to do - it just works in DX10 as it did in DX9. September 13, 201312 yr Time to delete that video. Six years old and it makes DX10 look like garbage It's better than DX9 (in performance and visuals), so what does that make DX9? I think it shows an unbiased display of DX9 vs. DX10 without any fixes applied on a base FSX install.

I think it shows an unbiased display of DX9 vs. DX10 without any fixes applied on a base FSX install. An 'unbiased display without DX10 fixes' is biased ! That and the poor of AA in the DX10 views short-changes the current state of DX10. September 14, 201312 yr I was not pointing finger at you, some peoples thing that FTX-G is the best thing since sliced bread, other think it's Steve's DX10 fix....to each his own but to me I'll take DX10 fixes at any time for $30.00, DX10 can't be beat for immersion, cockpit shadows, bloom, lens flair, AI traffic and road traffic can be use in DX10 without the big FPS impact DX9 will give you as DX10 will use more of the GPU. Here is a old vid. I made in January 2012 in DX10, way before applying any of Steve's fixes, tell me if you see any flickering lights or flickering runway, leaving early in the morning over Orbx scenery, I ticked everything on to push my rig as far as I could, look for the immersion effect....cockpit shadow, bloom, lens flair, AI traffic, streets lights and road traffic...clouds distance to the max...look at the haze effect coming back to the airport (after coming thru the clouds, outside view), you'll see some stuttering of course as I pushed the rig to the max but not that bad considering everything I used in FSX... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Imw9LwTOLNU I know you weren't pointing at me: I was just in the mood for some sharing some thoughts... ^_^ Anyway, your post made me realise something that seems obvious but er... I never thought about moving a few sliders more right with DX10! Up to now I always used the same settings as I did with DX9 but this afternoon I upped the cloud distance from full left to 90, I turned on bloom and lense flare, enabled boats and stuff, added some more cars, enabled all shadows (I noticed I had aircraft shadows on ground off) and off I went. And I have to say 1. as I said earlier already DX10 indeed seems to be a bit smoother than DX9 and 2. those higher settings didn't seem to hurt performance at all...! I am more and more moving towards staying with DX10... (but anyone who knows me knows this means nothing LOL). BTW It seems bloom only works on outside views and not from within the VC? If that's so, I will turn it off again because I never leave the VC while flying.
September 14, 201312 yr Author Bloom works both inside and outside the cockit, and is adjustable in Steve's DX10 Scenery Fixer, and is also adjustable in SweetFX - power, width and the level at which it begins to be seen. Yes one can use somewhat higher settings, as the GPU takes up more of the graphics load which it formerly shared with the CPU under DX9. i7 [email protected] | 32GB RAM | EVGA RTX 3080Ti | Maximus Hero VII | 512GB 860 Pro | 512GB 850 Pro | 256GB 840 Pro | 2TB 860 QVO | 1TB 870 EVO | Seagate 3TB Cloud | EVGA 1000 GQ | Win10 Pro | EK Custom water cooling.

One of the biggest benefits of going with DX10, is virtual address Space management (VAS). DX9 keeps a copy of video memory within the application address space. DX10 applications do not require this, freeing up address space. Thanks Tom My Youtube Videos! http://www.youtube.com/user/tf51d
September 14, 201312 yr Bloom works both inside and outside the cockit Hm, ok... The bloom on the outside was very obvious (I quickly had to grab my sunglasses) but in the VC I couldn't see any bloom at all... Maybe I am looking at the wrong things. BTW Nice to know the fixer can adjust the bloom! I don't use SweetFX and don't want to either.
September 14, 201312 yr The bloom on the outside was very obvious (I quickly had to grab my sunglasses) but in the VC I couldn't see any bloom at all Perhaps the aircraft glass effect could be interfering with the bloom - just speculating here but I've noticed scenery looks different (in varying amounts from inside the, depending on what I'm flying) from inside the VC versus outside. September 14, 201312 yr Scenery looks better from the VC than it does from Spot View. That's because the view of the landscape from outside is sort of "magnified" when compared to the VC view, so stuff like blurry textures and texture blemishes are more obvious. I often wonder if people who use a LOD radius of 6.5 or higher are spending too much time outside the cockpit, because the terrain textures look perfectly fine to me from the VC with the LOD radius at 4.5. September 14, 201312 yr Why keep people saying that? Can you tell me what exactly looks better with DX10 apart from the rather obvious water (which btw looks different but not immediately better)? BTW Don't think I am against DX10 or the fixer or something like that. ^_^ I used DX10 for a week or so with the A2A C172R but really missed the tooltips so I went back to DX9. But I have to say that what testing does not reveal, is revealed when you stop testing but actually fly with specific settings... After getting back to DX9 I think I did indeed noticed that DX10 performs smoother. As I said, when you test, usually doing rather very short flights in the same circumstances, you see a lot happening but you don't really experience it all. So I will do some more flights with DX9 and then go back once more to DX10 for at least a week or so to see if there REALLY is a difference or not. Tooltips are nice but smoothness is too. ^_^ Cockpit shadows "look and work better" in DX10 Water looks better IMO in DX10 (Provided you keep the default DX10 water and not overwrite with REX) 4xSSAA in DX10 looks slightly sharper than in DX9 at least on ATI. and while I can do 8xSSAA in most cases, I stick with 4xSSAA as my all scenario setting. And ya It's a tick smoother and can handle clouds a bit better IMO with my hardware but only just so. Can't speak for OOM's as I have never had one but then again I am not a 600 mile tubliner pilot and I don't run 3rd party traffic cranked up and things of that nature. Just the usual ORBX+REX+Opus+EZCA+TrackIR+Various Planes. No FSDT mega airports yet. Charles.
September 14, 201312 yr Water looks better IMO in DX10 (Provided you keep the default DX10 water and not overwrite with REX) I agree about water looking better in DX10, but why stick with default FSX water? REX gives you the option to install DX10 enhanced water animation and overall, their water looks much better than default. Nature Boy

I went back to dx10 default but its easy to try again. C.
