September 11, 201312 yr For Steve to take marketing advice from a bunch of DX10 fanatics is probably misguided! We are but a handful of biased data points in a very large market.Everyone has their own situation - mine for instance: the few addons I use don't have many problems that aren't already fixed. I have reasonable workarounds and could simply put up with the remainder. The main motivation for me at this time, is FTX Globlal (and frankly, I think JV should be paying for that fix, not me) You may feel that Steve should be compensated for past work, but the fact is, to the average Simmer, it's probably totally irrelevant. Now, the selfish side of me says; sell it cheap; get it into every simmers hands and bring DX10 into the mainstream so the addon makers who don't put out working stuff are marginalized, rather than us fanatics. OTOH, if I were Steve, I might price it through the roof, make a tidy profit and keep my customer base low so I can sell one-to-one and provide a decent level of personal support to my customers. September 11, 201312 yr A couple more for the beta testers: Has anyone tried the fixer with VRS TacPack FLIR imagery? I would love to see this snooty response I got from them a few months ago refuted: "The fundamental issue is that Microsoft never finished the support for it. That's why it's called "preview mode". The TacPack will work fine with DX-10 preview, but the FLIR imagery will not, and never will." Also - FEX clouds? I've seen occasional cloud layer drawing errors with DX10. September 11, 201312 yr Author Those were almost exactly the same words that I was rebuffed with when I asked Orbx support about CEJ4 & CEN4 (I think) when they were announced! I thought "What a pompous &@($*; an absolutely closed-mind"! :im Not Worthy: Unfortunately, no to the VRS or the FEX clouds. Just FSW and FSWLite, REX Ess +OD, AS2012 and FS Global RW, and all working fine. "but the FLIR imagery will not, and never will." I wouldn't make any bets on that! All the Best, i7 [email protected] | 32GB RAM | EVGA RTX 3080Ti | Maximus Hero VII | 512GB 860 Pro | 512GB 850 Pro | 256GB 840 Pro | 2TB 860 QVO | 1TB 870 EVO | Seagate 3TB Cloud | EVGA 1000 GQ | Win10 Pro | EK Custom water cooling.

September 11, 201312 yr Author  We understand, Jonathan! Thanks for your response here. DX10 has come to the attention of a lot of hobby/industry folks in this last year, as Steve's patches have slowly improved that "Preview" to the degree that it will bring DX10 to a level playing field with DX9. The forthcoming release of the Fixer will achieve that, and I suspect it will result in a flood of new DX10 users, and a new lease of life for FSX, and - moving forward - users will be now asking all developers to provide that DX10 compatibility, or as a minimum - at least providing a product which is closely enough compatible, such that the Fixer can do the rest. September 11, 201312 yr Yeah, $30 would be too steep and I would just continue in DX9. I think most of you here are so focused on DX10 that you think everyone is too. I think the majority of FSX users doesn't care or know about DX10. Most people don't know about the fixes Steve made. A lot of people fly FSX without addons and don't have problems with grey textures or whatever. I think this addon will be overlooked by the masses and only a few die hards will buy it. And a price tag of 30 bucks won't help. Most of the fixes are available for free too (although I suppose they will be withdrawn from the Avsim file library when this fixer has been released?). My advice would be to make it a no brainer purchase so a max price of 10 bucks. Some may find this addon revolutionaty and a giant leap for mankind but it's a basic looking addon (looks count a lot nowadays: it doesn't matter what goes on behind the interface) and unless you are already a diehard DX10 fan you probably won't even consider getting this one. Having said that I do hope for Steve that he will become a millionaire selling this fixer! ^_^

September 11, 201312 yr Author Cheesh, Jeroen - You've shot yourself in the foot! September 11, 201312 yr Many years ago when I started trying out DX10 I wished that someone would fix it. I said at the time I would be happy to pay for a fix. In fact Steve fixed one issue that I specifically requested about car headlights. So yes I will be happy to pay. But then I'm a DX10 addict......
September 11, 201312 yr Most of the fixes are available for free too (although I suppose they will be withdrawn from the Avsim file library when this fixer has been released?). Unless the other addon developers who have addons that don't function properly under DX10 put out a fix for them, the avsim files won't help. That's I think the big reason why he's looking at charging (just my opinion/guess though) is that the fixer is actually able to fix 3rd party addons that aren't DX10 compliant. The fixes on Avsim are just for the core FSX sim. I think I read somewhere a while back that the avsim files will actually be updated with the latest FSX fixes, but if you want the ability to fix addons then you will need the fixer tool. I'm not sure if that was just a rumor or if anything has changed or what. I just remember reading somewhere that the Avsim files would be updated as far as new versions of the fixes that are already out there. Smoother, better looking, maybe a few extra FPS, and a larger buffer protection for the VAS. If its easy enough to implement which it sounds like it will be, this will be adopted quick by the masses providing the price point is within reason. When that happens, the 3PDs will observe and will certainly take note. CYVR LSZH I7-14700k 64gb 6000Mhz DDR5 ASUS z690 ROG STRIX Gaming RTX 4080 Super,
September 11, 201312 yr Interesting topic ... I wonder how many FSX users there are that don't even visit forums like this. I suspect there are quite a few. I was one for a long while. That just infers there is a massive untouched FSX market available for the right marketing campaign. I agree with Dave. After the obvious difference is shown to the mainstream FSX user, they can't help but want the upgrade. It shall be interesting. I hope Steve keeps us clued in on some of his response results. September 11, 201312 yr It's funny, when Steve first started releasing DX10 patches and I was flying exclusively round London Town at night, I was real despondent that the dome had issues and wasn't visible. When I look back now its been an amazing journey and I wish Steve every success. With the current set of patches I'm more than pleased and have not touched DX9 for a long time. Do I need the fixer... Nope. Will I buy it? Damn right I will. DX10 with the fixer has the ability to become a game changer for FSX. The simple truth is that we are all bound by the dreaded VAS OOM it is a restriction that DX10 will not remove, but pushes further away. All of us who use DX10 exclusively are already aware of its benefits. That's why in two years time the whole FSX demography will have changed. Nuff said really
