Paul, will there be a guide included with it on what needs to be done to transition to dx10 or is there one in the DX10 forum for those newbies going from dx9 to dx10? Sent from Samsung Galaxy Note 2

Nothing needs to be done moving from the patch to the application, though my personal preferance would be tp replace the old patched ShadersHLSL folder with the backed-up original, and then run the installer.

Yes, there is a manual, (a few pages) Eric, describing exactly how to install it, what the various features are, and how to correct issues which need manual intervention, plus it includes a guide for developers to use in the end pages. It does not tell you how to amend the fsx,cfg to take advantage of the benefits of the DX10 architecture - for that, the "How -To" will remain available, still being a useful document for the new folks to DX10 and still a handy reference for the veteran DX10'ers.

The existing version will be frozen so that people who wish to stay with Patch 3.2.2 (or want to try DX10 without having to purchase the Fixer) have a reference to go by, and I plan on creating an amended version sometime following the release of the Fixer, however, at this point in time I have no idea of what plans other parties involved may have, moving forward.

I hope this sheds some light!

C'mon man....  Is there really something wrong with people being excited about about a new add on release?  One member just asked when it's going to be released, another said they can't wait and you just give them a one liner with a .  It comes off as a little rude.  Just saying.

The reason people are asking and "can't wait" is because it's coming out this week.

Try to be a little more positive.

Will this fixer be a done deal or will more fixes come after that as updates or new findings?

  • Author

This will depend upon the issue in question, Alain: I would imagine Steve will provide the results of future discoveries by way of updates, some coming from his own continued research, some will no doubt be as a result of problem resolution which may have some commonality with several users, or perhaps as a result of him being asked to fix something by other developers or vendors - as in the case of the Orbx global lights. This may well also be dependant upon whatever contract he is asked to sign by whoever is to distribute his Fixer.

Then again - this is a fix to a generic basic FSX issue - DX10 Shader code was brand new in 2006, and in the FSX SP2 development we are fortunate that there was a definite vision in place, and a plan - a structure. However, to stop a team of perhaps 50 people working at producing a finished product - has to be a recipe for a lovely mess - some pieces of code will be working, and some will not - there will be a veritable slew of loose ends, a Project Managers nightmare (think "poor Phil Taylor"), with an insensitive senior management telling Marketing to gloss it over. "Let's call it a "Preview".

Steve's programming effort has been - and still is, I suppose, is in discovering and sorting out what the code does, or is trying to do, in the ShadersHLSL files, and also what functions are embedded in the FSX.exe itself, and to my knowledge Steve has made great headway in repairing the external Shader code. It is, for the most part - repaired.

On the other side - his effort has also been directed at providing methods to compensate for FS9 and FS8 legacy code, and finding ways to correct all the issues caused by those older tools and methods when used by third-party vendors to create code which, though it may work when using DX9 - will not work when using DX10. DX10 is a different communication language and has rules, and libraries, and command sets, and these have to be able to recognise and communicate with those  objects that are created for FSX, and as far as we - the DX10 users are concerned - FSX includes a repaired DX10..  That may be a longer job.

Anyway - to wrap this post up - at this time I have no knowledge of his support or development plans past the end of this week! Brevity is wonderful!

All the best,

pj

It's been a banner year for FSX so far with the great addons being released.  I'm really looking forward to this one the most.

Hi guys,

I have been a new Dx10 scenery fixer beta tester since one week  !!!

Works perfectly for me....

Be patient, you'll be surprise by this fixer which has changed my fsx life !!

Hi Guys,

I have been lucky enough to get hold of a copy of Steve's masterpiece and let me tell you it's all I was hoping it would be and far more. I have been using DX10 for several months now, with the early patches it was a fantastic experience and also offered extra fps, however I still had a few problems with flashing airports etc. These all seemed to be fixed with this software and my whole FSX experience seems smoother ( I am currently en-route to Cologne from Washington, the sun has just started to rise and the views are breathtaking!) The other day whilst beta testing FS2Crew Airbus Button version I did six! yes six flights back to back without a single problem. So if if any one is worrying about trying this software, don't be!

What's the situation with AA and AF, SierraHotel? I run FSX in DX9 mode using 8xS AA, 2xSGSS, and 16x AF. Will I be able to do that with the DX10 fixer? The reason I ask is because this isn't the case with standard DX10 Preview mode.

Yes you can, the settings are adjustable from within DX10 Controller. I have "always" used AA & AF, since I first switched to DX10.

P.S. what's your take on ISON?
