FTX Global delayed to next week

Featured Replies

Ok, that would be great. I'm hoping that you do not...but in this configuration....35-45 minutes and bye-bye for me.

As you, I use a Carenado G.A. for most outings.

Thanks for the report post. Although you did not set us as I have mine (I have water full to to the right, etc, road traffic, autogen at the highest it can go...) so not apples-to-apples alternate system test, I am going to set up as you have posted later on today, and will report back also if I got an OOM running with your FSX settings. Thanks for your efforts. :)

You have your road traffic at 100%?

I wouldn't even try that with no addons at all  :O

I already uninstalled GEX but the textures are still there. Only thing left to do is to disable UTX night lightning and install FTX Global.

No...at 20 percent I re-read my post, and have to correct that. My original post stated correctly...A.I. at 25, and Traffic at 20. Anything to do with level of graphics at 100, and clouds at 70 miles. Water at 100

Sorry for the error!

Why don't you try using DX10 if you are having crashes? I don't have any OOM or CTD since I switched to it.

I am still DX9 for 24/7 but I ran DX10 with Steve's fixes for a month. He is about to release a patch that fixes the lights and then I am back to DX10 if no other bugs come up. Superior smoothness. Superior AA, Superior lighting and overall superior color and flavor. So much more than DX9. His new "DX10" kit will not be free though as it does more than the original 10 fixes. It convert scenery objects that were blank white to DX10 as you fly through them. Not sure how he pulled that off.

What is your setup? Ya I can get close to those settings for most flying except when I am in PMDG aircraft.

We all know default FSX is missing a lot of the important roads, rivers, lakes, towns and has inaccurate shorelines. The default textures are bland and blurry as are the trees and veggies. The "shape" of the ground (contours of the land) is also inaccurate and disappointing. I think FTXG is going to be "nice" but not the second coming. For it to be the second coming it needs 2 more disciples.

1. To take care of the bland textures - FTXG obviously or GEX but I like the rich colors of FTXG screenshots. Obviously has it's roots in ORBX region textures.

2. To get the "map like detail" into FSX (Roads, Rivers, Lakes and costal shorelines) you will need UTX (Canada, US and EU and possibly Alaska)

3. To make the ground contours/shape correct you will need FSGenesis http://www.fsgenesis.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTGY&Category_Code=CONTX

This is and will be the holy trinity of taking FSX default to FSX updated to modern. But still not quite as detailed as say... ORBX PNW. But it will be closer and look very good. But none of this addresses bland airports missing a bunch of buildings and having only the basic taxiways and all that.

For airports you will need individual add on's OR ORBX regions include retouched airports which is why they cost what they do. ORBX takes a region (PNW for instance) and adds those textures, the mesh and the UTX like map corrections but also spends a great deal of time making the hundreds of included airports more closely match google earth depictions. They add the missing buildings and taxiways and correct the runway's position and sometimes shape and throw some planes and fences down and a few custom objects to make them better.

This is where the original old UTX+GEX+MESH fell down for people and the same place this new combo (FTXG+UTX+MESH) will fall down. The airports were STILL default simple strips surrounded by plain old buildings.

However, JV has already stated, they WILL then offer regional enhancements to the BASE TEXTURE PACK (FTXG) where you will upgrade a big country with their Lanclass add on which will include improved mesh, UTX-like landclass fixes and retouched airports. Not sure when THAT will arrive. For now I am glad I have copies of UTX Canada and USA lying around. :) People will no doubt buy them and then replace when ORBX OpenLC arrives and makes their UTX and Mesh purchase obsolete.

Just things to be aware of.

Don't know where you've got that info from but it is wrong. OpenLC will only contain landclass and additional textures that suite the region for which the landclass is created (there will be 7 regions to cover the entire world). OpenLC will only work with FTXG. It will not include mesh or retouched airports!!! And, just to be sure, it also won't give you UTX-like roads and waters: it will of course give you 'UTX-like' landclass (but presumably more, better and more up to date since UTX landclass is a bit limited)

Only FTX regions will bring you 'everything', as you said. That part is true. ;)

This means that UTX and mesh addons will only become obsolete when an FTX regions for that area has been released.

They must have changed something in the last couple updates to the fix because one of the reasons I dropped DX10 was the AA. Even maxing out settings in my NI I couldn't get my lines to be not jagged all over. Spot view killed it, also looking at an angle at center consoles and such.

I was also surprised by that 'superior AA' remark. You CAN indeed get reasonable AA by now in DX10, but certainly NOT 'superior...!

This means that UTX and mesh addons will only become obsolete when an FTX regions for that area has been released.

Which considering how time intensive an FTX region is to produce, Orbx has to consider potential sales.

That being said, I can't see that I will ever be able to remove my UTX Canada because I can't see Orbx producing FTX regions for the northern portions of Ontario, Saskatchewan, Manitoba and Alberta; all of which I fly.

If you did not already see it here is an old vid I made when trying Steve's fix in DX10, I pushed the sim to the max (almost), cockpit shadows, car traffic at 50% +, lens flare, bloom on +++, all sliders to the right BUT water at 2X high, and the bonus is....... LOD at 11.5  eeeeeeeee

This was just for testing, this vid will not win any prizes as I'm panning a lot around the chopper (in and out) for testing purposes, it's not perfect as you will see some stutters here and there but the immersion in great when you add to it....

Nice video dx10 can achieve nice AA you just have to work at it as usual lol again the only reason I dumped it was the flytampa issues as my home base is kbos and that's a problem for me.

The developer has to make the airport DX10 compatible with a patch.

I find DX10 is no problem. I use Windows XP; no DX10, so no problem.
