Magestic Dash 8 any good?

Featured Replies

The Majestic Dash-8-Q400 is not any good at all......

It is excellent and its arguably better than the PMDG NGX in regards to its FDE and systems simulation, I highly recommend it!

I thought it could be an interesting discussion seeing as PMDG are releasing the same aircraft. I got the impression this was a insta buy so I did just that. However if the census gave the impression to wait for PMDG's than I would have done that.

I do not mind either, i perhaps would not have taken notice of this add on but now i am tempted to take a serious look at this plane. (but those prices are quite steep so it'd be better worth it)

Actually, why not turn a thread like this into a comparison feedback reference to "NGX" quality add-ons. Do they exist?

I just love the Dash8. The Majestic Team has done a great job for all who have been waiting for a good Prop.

What i want to mention especially is the outstanding Graphic performance.

I have everything maxed out in FSX and still i am able to lock the Framerate at 60 FPS. The lowest FPS i had were around 55 FPS at London City.

So give it a try if you are into flying a real airplane, not just a flying Computer!

Frooglepete has done a couple of  detailed  youtube videos. PMDG relevant as he is a beta tester for the 777

I'm going to go against the tide here, but his knowledge of the type (or any tubeliners) is very low (as he sometimes admits, and by some of the errors and references he makes), so I wouldn't recommend his vids for any famiarization or technical or operational detail, but his enthusiasm is catching.    There are much better vids IMHO.    Just a view.   I know he has a big following, so my view may not be popular!

Dead right! ..... Performance is staggering.  Like, almost default C172 level.  This is one complex airliner that we can fly into complex detailed airports and still get fab frames.   I don't think I've seen my frame rate counter drop below 29.9 in the Q400 (it's locked at 30 ).

Systems and dynamics wise, Fly the Maddog fits. Graphically, it is not quite up there, being fair bit older, but they do plan to update that.

Project Tupolev 154s are great as well, especially dynamics wise. There is M for FS9 and a slightly less complex B2 for FSX (and older version for 9)

Just had my first hour with the Majestic and it is now tied favourite with the NGX. Now I don't know what magic they did but performance is truly impressive. Default ac levels. Hopefully AOA release training for this one.

beautiful to hand-fly,and a challenge to land ;)

As far as i know, the MS Q400 is capable of using multicore Processors as the Flight Dynamics Engine is running outside of FSX.

This gives a truly amazing perforance with one or two issues to be solved in the future. For example turbulance not affecting the airplane and so on. But that doesn't change the

way i think about the whole thing.

I really rate it, Graphics are outstanding, the supporting documentation isn't as good as PMDG although it gets you going.  The real buzz is hand flying and difficult airfields.  What I particularly like is the ground nose wheel steering.  Lovely commuter aircraft, very different FMS which throws you when you are used to Boeing, it comes into its own when you have a limited amount of time and want a short haul, as good as PMDG in many ways although for me the JS41 just edges it (now I have the graphics issue sorted).

Yes, it's right up there with the best of them. Independent FDE make it feel like nothing else I've ever flown on FSX. It's a difficult plane to land and procedure must follow just like the real Q400. There's a great Youtube Video of RL Q400 flight crews talking about flying the Q400. This model matches their every word. I've applied much of what they were talking  to the Q400 sim, and all their points are captured in the model. Goes to show just how true to life it is. Frames are comparable to default FSX planes. Of course it has a few its bugs like all of them, but no show stoppers or deal breakers. You won't be disappointed.

Hi all,

I recently had the pleasure to take the aircraft and review it, albeit the most basic version, the Pilot version of the aircraft.   As all of the others have stated here, the aircraft is a little gem!   Those wondering if the price is worth it, it certainly is!    It is a really high quality add-on, so you don't have to be concerned with finding it falling short of your expectations.

Hope that helps!

Kind regards

May i ask how does this dash 8 relate in terms of realism (flight model/ dynamics) to PMDG's J41 ?

Leaving aside the animated drama and blowing up the engines special effects that can be avoided by doing things in the correct order, the climb management you have to monitor (no autothrust) ,     learning to slow down before commencing your descent and so on.the J41 is considered a light to semi-light add-on. correct me if i am wrong.

Is the dash 8 more realistic in its flying behavior?
